Logic for scrapping St. Bonnie's game? Are they on a pause?

I believe in an effort to set matchups that will increase our odds at multiple bids, the A-10 actually started proactively cancelling and rescheduling games.  Pretty savvy move by the league but obviously a bummer that GW is in a position where we are seen as expendable.

Re: Upcoming Schedule

Considering St Bona plays at Mason tomorrow, it seems odd their game at the Smith Center was undone. And URI is coming to the DC area just for the GW game. If there is any truth to what GW0509 posted, expect typical support from the refs for the 10-12 team still with a longshot at a bid and for GW to get totally screwed by the zebras.

That game has now been cancelled due to the impending inclement weather.

This is correct. A-10 is playing games within the games. Probably going to blow up in their face under the heading "the best laid plans."

Re: Upcoming Schedule

So just another inquiry--

Why are some games "cancelled" and others "postponed"? Is there any reasonable expectation that the postponed games will actually be rescheduled?

It's almost like the schools and conferences are using these kids to make money, placing money over risk and the kids'  interests.  Weird and totally unlike the NCAA.

Re: Upcoming Schedule

Very smart IMO for the A10 to use the schedule to buff resumes. Just like so many ok but weaker businesses (Think about what happened to minor league baseball) Covid is the perfect cover for the big boys in nearly any industry or sphere to grab leverage and position themselves.

The NCAA NEEDS basketball and the associated TV money more and more with football and names and likeness issues making them more and more irrelevant.

Re: Upcoming Schedule

Dana O'Neil @DanaONeilWriter
The Atlantic 10 is about to announce a change to its conference tourney schedule, sources say. Going to swap men's and women's tourney dates to get some wiggle room for postseason. Details to come.

Jeff Goodman  @GoodmanHoops 43s
Can confirm. A-10 men’s tourney moves up a week, per source.

Jeff Goodman@GoodmanHoops·
Source: A-10 title game will be on Selection Sunday in Dayton. ... just starting league tourney a week earlier.

Re: Upcoming Schedule

Seeding Formula:

Also approved is the seeding policy for both the men’s and women’s basketball for the 2021 championships. Teams above 60 percent of the median number of conference games played by all 14 teams will be seeded by conference winning percentage. Teams below that 60 percent threshold will be seeded using the NCAA NET ranking, relative to all A-10 teams. Additionally, teams below the 60 percent threshold will not be eligible for the regular season title.

Tyler Byrum @theTylerByrum
Based off the Atlantic 10's new seeding system, this is what the the current seeding is:
#1 VCU

#8 Dayton
#9 URI

#4 UMass

#5 St. Bona
#12 GW* vs. #13 Fordham

#3 Davidson

#6 Richmond
#11 La Salle vs. #14 St. Joe's

#2 Saint Louis*

#7 Duquesne
#10 George Mason

Re: Upcoming Schedule

Is the thinking behind the moving of the dates "that leaves wiggle room in case the virus disrupts the confernece tourney" or " if a team loses early in the conference tournament but might still be on the bubble it could schedule a game or two before bids are announced in the hopes of boosting its chances"? Also, what happens if the virus is kind to the tournament but disrupts the Conference Championship Game?

Re: Upcoming Schedule

It's all a cluster. They're just piecing it together, not sure with even a fig leaf of being equitable, never NCAA's strong suit anyway. I love conference tournaments as one of the things that makes college basketball uniquely egalitarian (the idea that any one of 360 teams can still win a national championship based on their play in March), but they will make themselves obsolete (a stated goal of many, like Bilas) as an AQ by holding events without the full complement of teams. You can't be a conference champ if all your teams don't play. Just one example of this year's ridiculous season, for fans, schools and players alike. Not sure it's an accident all the bluebloods took this season off.

Re: Upcoming Schedule

We seem to be the only team in danger of not meeting the minimum number of games.  If that's the case we could win out and still be the 14 seed in the A-10 tournament.

Re: Upcoming Schedule

Sorry.  If GW actually cared about its players, it wouldn't ask its players to play their first game in over a month, just before the start of tournament play.  But, GW needs to do what it needs to do to protect itself.  The players can fend for themselves, I suppose.

Re: Upcoming Schedule

Anyone know if GW will have a full complement of players? Hopefully Moyer is ok and Battle is fully recovered.

Teams coming off multi week layoffs against teams that have been playing often struggle at first, so this is going to be a tall order against URI - even if Moyer and everyone else are playing.

The short answer is that GW will likely not have a full complement of players for the remainder of the season. As to the details, you will have to wait.

Re: Upcoming Schedule

The GW schedule for the week after Sunday’s game just got changed. GW will now be at George Mason on Wednesday at 6 pm (MASN telecast) and at St. Bonaventure on Friday.
