Re: Recruiting for 2021-22 Team.. Transfers and HS recruit news

Right and we don't know when we called.  It could've been the same time as we called Bamisile and Bamisile committed first.  I agree that hopefully our next move should be for a shooter.

I promise you we could make room for Richmond and Bamisile. That kid was electric with the ball in his hands at times - could get into the lane at will - and a steals machine.   I’d love to get him, but unless there’s a personal connection, it’s probably a place like Illinois.

It's Brendan Adams from UCONN!!! https://twitter.com/BAuno0/status/1377263057173372931

What a coup, his brother is Bonnies legend Jaylen Adams.  I'm sure the Bonnies were after him too.

Very complimentary comments about Adams on the UConn board.

So Lee, Basimile, Adams. I'd say that's a pretty good start.

We now have the following players from these Conferences ...

SEC - Bishop
BE - Adams
ACC - Basimile
B10 - Lindo, Harris
PAC 12 - Lee

I don't think we have ever had 6 guys on a GW roster at the same time who were recruited and played at power conference schools..

Two years of eligibility remaining.  Glad it's not just one.

Re: Recruiting for 2021-22 Team.. Transfers and HS recruit news

I like good news and this seems like good and this sure looks it;
however IMO it is Show Me time. I’m not mad. They don’t owe me anything. By the same token I’m not obligated to be optimistic.

1. Do they all reach the court
2. Does JC understand what all his players can and cannot do?
3. Can JC turn his players into a team?
4. Does said team have an identity/A strength it can lean on?
5. 10 conference wins?

If I see improvement along these lines I’ll be a happy camper !

It's this stuff that is irksome.  It's great the guys JC has brought in right now.  And with two years of Adams, that's great and impactful.  But you spend TREMENDOUS amounts of time talking about how much different transferring is now, and how we shouldn't judge JC for the transfers out.  If that's true, you can't then credit JC for being the first guy to bring in so many other big conference players,  because such an opportunity was not previously available to other GW coaches.  Great get- but let's stick to the topic.

Yes, what FredD says is very much on the mark.  JC was positioned as a turnaround artist but after season 1, we were told that he just did not have enough of his own recruits to compete.  After Season 2, the talent improved to some extent but the unusual circumstances surrounding this season more or less negated the opportunity to show real growth as a program.  Therefore, so far, we have failed to see any real type of turnaround though the reasons for this are understandable.  Next year, we will have even more talent and hopefully, a far less crazy year off the court.

I was just stating a fact danjsport. Plus, Lonergan thrived with multiple Power Conference transfers named Armwood, Cavanaugh, and Creek. Also got the kid from Missouri who didn't stick.

Re: Recruiting for 2021-22 Team.. Transfers and HS recruit news

Chol Marion in the portal.   Giant 7’2” big man came to Maryland with high hopes, but didn’t work out.  Turgeon really tried at the start of the year to run a traditional center, with Chol and Galen Smith alternating in the post, but after several games he realized they were too slow and clogged the paint so he just had to go small.

That actually makes 4 bigs in two years to leave Maryland: Chol, the Mitchell twins, and the best one, Ricky Lindo.

This is a fair point Danjsport.  I think demerits are in order for the vast exodus of players over the past two years, several being JC recruits.  In a few instances, JC either coached or planned on coaching players at Siena, only to find out that the A10 provides a bit more advanced level of competition than the MAAC.  Conversely, JC and staff should be credited for bringing in a group of players who at least on paper, appear like they should be able to perform well in the A10.

There are of course no guarantees.  Cheyenne Moore transferred from Clemson and had to be viewed as a disappointment.  Mixed opinions likely exist regarding the GW careers of Wynton Witherspoon (from Virginia Tech) and DJ Williams (DePaul).  (As a side note, at least Seth Greenberg isn't in Blacksburg anymore to potentially block the Basimile transfer.)

Nevertheless, the apparent advantage of having a roster stocked with players who once played for Nebraska, LSU, Maryland, Virginia Tech, Arizona, and UCONN is that you're bringing in players who are seemingly talented enough that major programs showed interest in them.  It's also telling that not a single one of these players are bringing with them the reputation of a malcontent or a bad influence.  Perhaps the lax transfer rules have brought about  a new type of transfer, one that arrives with little if any baggage.

So despite getting sucked in to petty discussions like why Battle transferred, I am truly excited by the recent developments.  If there is a Kenner League this year, it's just three months away.  The long countdown until November has started.

Re: Recruiting for 2021-22 Team.. Transfers and HS recruit news

I think this might be one of the HS 2021 kids we're waiting on

Nate Santos 6-7 SF
Loomis Chaffee School Ct

Link to a recent article

"Santos, a native of Geneva, Illinois, is a three-star prospect, ranked as the No. 227 player in the nation according to the 247Sports Composite. At 6-foot-7, 210 pounds, Santos’ ability to elevate over smaller defenders to get his shots off uncontested is what stands out most about his offensive skill set. Whether he is shooting off the dribble or on a catch-and-shoot opportunity, he has developed into a very consistent weapon from outside with potential to keep improving."

From a different article
"Santos, a versatile 6'7", 200-pound small forward known for his shooting ability, noted that he is focused on George Washington and Pitt and will be committing soon. "

Looks like Pitt is considered the favorite

Santos would be a great pickup. Hopefully former GW player and current Loomis HC Rock Battistoni is putting in a good word for us!

Good Rock connection and find FC and 0509. Rock was a solid guy and can help.
We need a shooter of his size. That's what we lost. Lot of playing time available for him. Fits perfectly with the other new recruits at GW.
