Glad Mojo has a job BUT I DONT CARE! He is part of the ML PN Cesspool of topics. UNLESS bringing up any of this is actually germane to NOW STOP! Just stop! It literally doesn’t matter. I’d support the moderator flagging topics if this nonsense persists. I’m not admonishing anyone in particular but keep it current. We have a nice clean board let’s keep this way.

Congrats to Mojo on his new Coaching job. FDU last year, Equalled the # of NCAA wins as GW in the last quarter century. One.
FDU is a solid program on the rise with a hot Coach who may bolt for a higher program. Could leave Mojo with his head Coaching experience as next in line.
Best of luck Mojo.

Let's keep things nice around here and not ruin yet another board. The thread is about Mojo and not ML. Why we cannot just wish both the best in their future endeavors without unnecessary jabs is beyond me. Consider this a warning.
Regarding FDU, I think it is more of an interpretation of how the job is viewed in relation to the conference vs. the conference itself. The NEC is without a doubt one of the lowest rated conferences in D1 basketball (probably only above the MEAC and SWAC) which makes the job far from the most desirable.
However, the fact that Herenda has kept the Knights at .500 or higher in conference the last four seasons has made the job more desirable in comparison to the rest of the conference. Every mid-major is trying to become the next Gonzaga (and haven't succeeded), but it's not impossible for FDU to become the next New Mexico State, Iona, or Texas Southern in dominating their conference if they can retain their talent. Robert Morris and Wagner are usually pretty decent as well in their conference (and to a slightly lesser extent, Mount St. Mary's), but the other teams just lack the consistent history of winning.
Winning consistently in a low conference is just not an easy feat, which is why I think what JC did at Mount St. Mary's was pretty impressive having a win percentage of just 52% in his six years there. At one point, no conference was being wiped of its talent more than the NEC (and JC experienced that himself with Wilson and Long) so the start of every season was effectively starting from scratch. Of late, the up transfers from the NEC haven't fared as well at the power six level, so maybe that will allow some of these schools to keep their best talent. For the sake of the schools in that conference, I hope that is the case in the future.

Fred D, you're right about Mojo being a part of the cesspool/trolling that ruined the other board but at least this is ACTUAL news about Mojo, not someone bringing him up for no reason at all.
About Mojo taking an assistant position at a mid(or low)-major like Fairleigh Dickinson, maybe Mojo thinks Greg Herenda will get a BCS job soon, and he can be on that BCS staff with him. It's been pointed out on the old board that assistant positions are harder to get than one might think, so FDU may have been one of the few schools that had an opening.
If Jamion Christian can turn things around quickly, meaning an NIT or NCAA bid(or something close to it) by his 2nd year, due in part to Mojo's holdovers like Mazulla, Jack, Javi, Mezie and the 2 incoming freshman Paar and Battle, the perception of Mojo may change a bit by some of you here. I think there is a chance that GW can be pretty good in 2020-2021.

Exactly Thomas, that's what I posted a few comment back.
Getting hired instantly, at a school that just won an NCAA Tourney game is an undeniably good move for Mojo, and puts him with his Head Coaching experience next in line for the top gig.
Good luck Maurice Joseph!

A bit of news: Former @GW_MBB head coach Maurice Joseph joining @MasonMBB as an assistant after one year on staff at Fairleigh Dickinson, source says. Also, Duane Simpkins expected to receive promotion on GMU staff and become associate head coach under @PaulsenDave.

Following in the footsteps of Roland Houston.
Interesting move for MoJo in that this is clearly an upgrade over FDU yet at the same time, Paulsen's seat has to be considered lukewarm at best and more likely, quite hot. Nevertheless, am glad to see he's back in the area. Hard to believe that Maceo is the lone member of our roster who MoJo has coached. A lot can change in a year.

He learns Xs and Os, he'll be a fine coach one day. Give him a few years.

It would be nice if MoJo could work as an assistant for a head coach that would take him under his wing, sort of the way JC learned from Bob Johnson. From what I've read, that experience really gave JC his head coach foundation. If MoJo can get a command on how to assemble and prepare his team, and adapt as required during the game, he should be a really good D1 coach. For all I know, he might be ready now. Maybe that's why he took the GMU job, if in fact Paulsen is on the hot-seat. I still feel MoJo got into a bad situation on GW and don't fault him at all for failing to succeed. I'm not sure anyone other than a top-tier coach could have done much here in the wake of all the crazy controversy. I just hope MoJo does well, except when they play GW

Amen, i wish him nothing but the best. Agreed he was put in a very difficult situation at GW and he is a first class gentlemen who really cares about his players. He's certainly young enough to learn and grow and be a D 1 head coach.

Richmond coach Chris Mooney has hired Maurice Joseph as assistant coach, source told @Stadium. Joseph was at George Mason last season and was head coach at GW prior to that. I love this hire for Mooney and the Spiders.

Wow, the ML Debacle keeps on giving.

Remember when we used to own Richmond? Hobbs had a span where he was 7-1 against them and Lonergan had a 4-1 streak vs. the Spiders as well.
Presently, Richmond has won 11 of the past 12 against us.
And now, this. As if they needed more motivation.

I'm not following the motivation angle. Mojo is now 3 jobs removed from GW. Also since assistants move so much, I'm not sure that kids really care that much or even know or care about the history. It's a non-factor.

1) It was meant as a joke. The kind of statement that you roll your eyes out while smiling.
2) And yet, behind every joke lies some truth and this is no exception. Can you really not envision a scenario where the Spider players take to MoJo and then rally around the fact that GW is the school who dumped him? Even if you don't agree that this may provide any real motivation, I would be hard-pressed to believe that you really do not see this angle.

Why would they care that GW dumped him? If the opinions of posters on this board are to be believed Mojo was an unqualified disaster who lucked into a job he had no business having, couldn't recruit any A-10 caliber players, and was fired 3 years too late. If anything, GW did him a favor by firing him.
Offline
Be that as it may, do you really think MoJo enjoyed being fired? Do you really believe he looked at his own firing as a favor to him?
If you're playing for the guy and you like the guy and your opponent is the school that fired him, it's just human nature to expect an added level of motivation even if it's relatively minor.

those were the opinion of 1 man using 20 names
not fully reflective of the about 8 or so actual people posting here somewhat regularly, but of course, that was the point

Another Monday, another paranoid personality disorder expression above. GW69? Are you available to help?

I'm quite sure Mojo is highly motivated but I can't imagine a scenario where his players rally around him as an assistant. If he had that kind of power (magnetism) he'd still be coaching at GW.
