This is what Head Coach Nick Nurse said about Yuta yesterday... Go to the end (start at 15:21 or so).
You can't hear the question, but the player he's talking about is Yuta.

Didn't know Ish Wainwright was with the Raptors too. Visited here, but I don't think really considered GW despite lots of Montrose connections.

Love hearing about the success of GW's former players. Please keep it coming.

Just a reminder,as BGF and others have posted about. Yuta and others this NBA preseason.
The Raptors are on the regular NBA TV playing Philadelphia again apparently, at 7 tonight. No reason to believe Yuta will start, but he may get some minutes,as he did with an excellent performance a few days ago. Hope he can hold his own safely,as he did last year.
This is the NBA TV that may be wrapped in on your cable or satellite, etc. package, not the subscription one.

Looks like Yuta was injured, hence he didn't play. Don't know what it was, but one of his ankles hasn't been the same since he was left in the waning minutes of an A-10 blowout.
Here's a tweet from a writer for The Athletic:(((Eric Koreen)))@ekoreen Raptors originally thought YUTA’s injury was going to be worse than it was. It happened during a scrimmage. Nurse indicates it’s unlikely he gets into a preseason game, but hopefully he’ll be ready for opening night. Will he be on opening roster? “Probably."

Yuta has a calf injury. But Nick Nurse said he really wants him to play on opening night. Says he can't confirm he is guaranteed to make the team (up to the front office), but he really wants him here. Effusive praise.

Looks like Yuta is set up to make the Raptors roster. Despite being converted to a contract last season, he still had to compete for a spot on the team against some new blood.
I figure we can use this thread to shine a light on his PT this season. Looks like he will have a real role on the team and get some minutes.

Good find and good news,if reports are correct and the coach has already indicated he wants Yuta on the roster.

And Yuta did make the final cut, unsurprisingly, except for our luck.
Salary should now be guaranteed and really hope this is the last time he has to sweat it out to get then a contract he deserves.
Used Yuta's unheralded rise and true perspicacity as an example in another thread.
Yuta is a great young man, smart, talented and a hard worker. Congratulations to Yuta and family.
Couldn't be any prouder that he came from GW.

Congrats Yuta. Keep making us proud.

For those who haven't seen, Yuta was in a commercial in Japan recently:

On opening day, Yuta put up a solid 10 points (shot 4-7 from field, including 2-2 from the three), 7 rebounds, 2 blocks, 1 steal and 0 turnovers in 17 minutes in Toronto's win vs. Philadelphia. I don't think that there is any question that Yuta belongs in the NBA. He has not played since due to a calf injury.

Thanks for the update. I was wondering why he was out the last few games.

That was a preseason game. I think he might be on IR because his name doesn’t appear in the box score, even with a dnc, in any regular season game.

The report has been as of a few days ago, a strained calf muscle, which seems to be taking longer than we hoped. But as of a few days ago, Yuta was reported to be getting better. Sure hope so as he was really "ballin'" this year, to use the words of a teammate, pre-injury.
A Canadian sports network, TSN's website, just reported Yuta practiced in full today.

For those of you who may be wondering what happened to Yuta, he has been slogging through a rehab after injuring his calf at a preseason practice. Originally tagged as minor, it has taken much longer to heal than expected, causing him to miss the first 18 games of the season already.
In this morning's interview, some good news, and although far from a sure thing, Yuta may get some action tonight. He looks pretty upbeat in this clip.

Yuta did indeed make his 2021-2022 NBA debut last night. Although he his offense was a little rusty (he was 0-3 from the field), he did end up with 3-4 FTs, and was all over the floor on defense. He had one of the NBA's highlights of the night.

Very nice find, XAC, and very welcome news.
We give thanks for people like Yuta who represent GW so well and humbly.
