Didn't like the demeaning reference to the "peanut gallery". We are rightfully disgruntled fans who still support the team with our presence and our money, even though for many (most) of us, this is becoming harder and harder to do. Yes, the dunk was very impressive, but I saw it as the proverbial rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic. It did nothing to solve the problem The only thing the dunk may have done is gotten GW on ESPN in a non-embarassing way.
As for Sinatra, "I did it my way"?

Isn’t it obvious that Larson was the best dunker? For those of you who don’t know, I’m kidding!

I think that the defense of everything GW is affecting some peoples thinking. If you think that knowledgeable fans are looking for show boating dunks rather than fundamentally sound basketball, I couldn’t disagree more. it’s ok to be critical and still support your team. Does anyone on the team believe it is fun being 4-8 because of the occasional spectacular dunk? If so, maybe they shouldn’t be playing a team sport. There is a reason that we play before an empty arena, and it certainly isnt because of us in the peanut gallery, who expect more. Just once I would like to hear you be critical of a program that is in its 6th consecutive bad season,. Here’s a start…the problem isn’t with me.
LSF, this post does not make much sense to me. When did this discussion become a referendum on whether one prefers to see exciting dunks or fundamentally sound basketball? Are you really turning this into an either/or question? Similarly, do you wonder whether any follower of this program is pleased with the season to date because Joe made SportsCenter's Top 10 twice?
I can't help but think that you are reading way more into this than you should. I'll speak for myself when I say that I would trade those two dunks for a fundamentally sound 10-2 team every day of the week. Am not really sure who wouldn't?
The original discussion had far more to do with whether the 360 dunk against Radford was poor form, inappropriate, etc., and there's no need to rehash this discussion. Turning the discussion into whether we as fans are happier this way, as opposed to supporting a more successful team that is fundamentally sound, strikes me as a straw man's argument. Because I so don't associate you with this tactic, it makes me wonder whether I am missing something here?

We’re about the same age so certainly you watched Howdy Doody as a kid. Hell, Buffalo Bob did a show at Lisner when we were at GW. Kid audience on the TV show was referred to as the peanut gallery. When the heck did that become pejorative? You’re turning this into a Clarabell thread, Bro.

You are correct Mayhem-two different discussions.I can’t speak for LSF,obviously, but I think that “changing the chairs on the deck of the Titanic” certainly resonated with me.Since this is a Basketball forum any topic
connected to that subject is appropriate including “best dunkers”.Speaking for myself the whole subject of
“best dunkers” seems wildly off our teams current issues.So—-the “dunkers thread” though appropriate
can’t help but remind me of how far we have fallen over the past 5 or 6 years. But yes-let’s keep our
discussion to dunking-and I’ll try to maintain my civility.

I guess it’s OK to feel good about something.”Let’s go Joe”.

OK Lighten up everyone. I am more concerned in what I see is a bit of a down tick in the pep band. Somehow this did spiral a bit out of control. Seasons Greetings to all, even you know who. I will lease with a simple "in your heart, you know I'm right". (I know fellow history major Poog would get the reference...who else?)

Everyone should be able to comment within the bounds of fairly loosely interpreted good taste and fairly
tightly interpreted civility, including explicitly or implicitly questioning the loyalty of other dedicated to ultra-loyal fans who are looking at this board in a 4-8 season (clawing up from 2-8) with a host of embarrassing losses that likely lost any preseason hopes by late November.
Having noted that, in a way to ease tension, would also highlight that Mike K. had a very good point.
Much as I think Mr. Bamisile, seemingly a great GW community member and energetic representative of GW basketball, may have to curb his sincere instincts on occasion, Mike K. made a great point in the thread somewhat unnoticed in the crossfire. There are certainly times a dunk is called for.
And Kevin Larsen, a highly valuable contributor on the court, seemed to have an aversion to dunking.
There are times, including when he might have occasionally missed a layup, that I always thought why doesn't he just dunk it?
Don't know why he never, almost never or at least pretty rarely seemed to do it. Maybe it's a European or Danish thing about modesty. He wasn't a great leaper, but quite effective, and has been in his pro career.
KevLar's lack of dunking was always a puzzle.
So, there are actually two sides to the question that arose out of the original.
And KevLar would not be on the GW's best dunker list.

Believe it was a Johnson commercial. Apparently only aired once but had an everlasting effect.

It was indeed a 1964 Johnson advert that, like the "Checkers Speech", aired only once but had such a huge impact on the electorate that a PoliCom class I took spent over a month studying the two as transformative moments in the rise of television as the dominant mean of political campaigning.

Correct me if I’m wrong but I believe the Johnson ad led to the Haight-Ashbury summer while the Checkers speech inspired Bobby Fischer.

Thanks for posting that clip, GWAA. 57 years ago. Holy crap.
