Re: Other Games Thread (11/16 - 11/30/19)

Mich St is up 30 on Georgia.

Does anyone do less with more than Tom Crean?  he was 71-91 in the Big 10 at Indiana, he was 2-16 last in league play at Georgia. He's got a top 2 NBA pick on this team and yet they look awful, getting totally run off the court.

I just turned it on and Bolden is playing, it looked like he picked up 2 fouls early in the game, so Frank Martin had to take him out. He put him back in after Wichita State opened a 26-9 lead. Wichita State is now up 29-15 with about 4 minutes left in the 1st half

Wichita State is 5-0 after they struggled last season, Marshall appears to have them back at an elite level.

The Dude,  Anthony Edwards WENT OFF in the 2nd half(he had over 30 points in the 2nd half), and almost led Georgia to a comeback win. A.Edwards looked terrible in the Maui Invitational until the 2nd half of their game against Michigan State. Crean did have several 1-and-done's on Indiana teams that underachieved, after he had that dominant team with Oladipo and Zeller.

The A10 has jumped out to early leads both DAyton and Richmond over #18 Auburn

long way to go in both games but would be two great wins if we can pick them up

Re: Other Games Thread (11/16 - 11/30/19)

Fun facts: biggest upset in the sport in over 15 years.
27.5 point spread.
Some oil man in Texas made a boat load of cash betting on that one last night!

If you haven't seen the last play of the game, have a look, couldn't find a video to post.  Crazy ending!

Re: Other Games Thread (11/16 - 11/30/19)

Richmond ended up losing by double digits to Auburn. Auburn has NBA length, height and athleticism, they'll probably be a 2 or 3 seed in the NCAA tournament. Dayton picked up another blowout win as Obi Toppin dominated again. O.Toppin is now becoming a household name since these games are on ESPN for the entire country to watch, it also helps that Jay Bilas keeps saying that he'll be a lottery pick in the NBA draft.

Maybe I'll discuss this further in the 'Best A10 Player of the Decade' thread but it's been a while since the A10 has had a player(s) get national recognition like this. Jameer Nelson and Delonte West are ones that immediately come to mind, and they played 15 years ago. I know that Bembry from St.Joe's and Nicholson from St.Bonaventure were great players and 1st round NBA picks, but I don't think a lot of non A-10 fans knew about them.

George Mason beat Nebraska by 19(85-66) in the Cayman Islands tournament. Even if Nebraska is terrible this year, the fact that an undermanned A-10 team that is projected to finish in the middle-of-the-pack blew out a Big 10 team is a great win for he A-10. Also, I need to bring up Michigan, who is now playing in the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament(all of the games will be on ESPN's networks) because it's interesting seeing Phil Martelli as an assistant to Juwan Howard. What's Martelli's connection to Juwan Howard? I couldn't think of any off the top of my head(Juwan is from Chicago, played at Michigan and I don't believe he ever played or coached in Philadelphia where Martelli has been coaching since the 90's)

St.Louis at Boston College    2:00 on the  ACC Network
Manhattan at Rhode Island   4  ESPN+
Dayton vs  #4 Kansas  5:00   ESPN   -  Maui Invitational Championship Game. Imagine the hype for Dayton and Toppin if they win this game!! Dayton may be ranked in the top 15
New Mexico State vs George Mason   7:30  - Championship game of the Cayman Islands Classic
South Alabama vs La Salle   7:30  - this looks to be part of a tournament in Florida

South Carolina vs Northern Iowa  6:00  CBS Sportsnetwork  - consolation game
Gallaudet University at Vermont    7   ESPN3 online(games on ESPN3 are free for everyone) - would this even count as a win for Vermont? I thought Gallaudet was D-2 or D-3.

Re: Other Games Thread (11/16 - 11/30/19)

Thomas, no doubt about it, not since Jameer Nelson Sr has the A10 had a player exploding on the National scene like Dayton's Obi Toppin has this year!

Re: Other Games Thread (11/16 - 11/30/19)

Couldn't happen to a nice team or coach K. The guy who mocked the A10 just got beat on their crooked
and loud home court by a team several levels below the A-10.
Congrats to Stephen F. Austin and Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Re: Other Games Thread (11/16 - 11/30/19)

Dayton lost in OT to Kansas, but they went toe to toe with them for the full 40 minutes and OT. When you look at Dayton's size, athleticism and shooting, they appear to be a team that could go undefeated in the A-10. It will be interesting to see how they fare in conferences against coaches who are familiar with their personnel. Dayton has added 3 or 4 very talented BCS transfers, including a lights out shooter from Michigan.

George Mason won the Cayman Islands tournament last night by beating New Mexico State, 68-64. George Mason looks to be legit as they are now 7-1, and have been playing without their best player in Justin Kier. It looks like the turnaround that people expected for George Mason last year(they were picked to finish 2nd last year by a lot of outlets), is happening a year later

I've also got to acknowledge Virginia beating Maine 46-26 yesterday. Yeah, Virginia held Maine to 26 Points!!! Isn't that 2 or 3 points more than St.Louis scored against GW at Smith Center several years ago?

Maryland vs. Temple - this game is currently on ESPN2 and is part of the Orlando Invitational that includes Davidson. Maryland and Davidson are on opposite sides of the bracket, so they could meet on the final day for the championship or in a consolation game. Former Temple star Aaron McKie is now the head coach at Temple

Texas A&M vs Harvard  1:00 on ESPN2  - the winner of this game will play the Maryland-Temple winner

Davidson vs Marquette  6 on ESPNU - Davidson appears to be the only A10 team who has struggled in the OOC. They've already lost to Charlotte, Wake Forest and Auburn. Marquette guard Markus Howard was one of the leading scorers in the nation last year

Re: Other Games Thread (11/16 - 11/30/19)

If memory serves, at least on year when SFA was in the tourney, their league was described as dead last in the NCAA.
Stunning upset!

Re: Other Games Thread (11/16 - 11/30/19)

the Dayton-Kansas game was a real battle to the end. Dayton's center Obi Topping looks like the best player in the A-10; excellent 3 point shooter and terrific shot blocker.

Re: Other Games Thread (11/16 - 11/30/19)

Georgetown's next game is against undefeated Oklahoma State(who is coming off 2 blowout wins against Syracuse and Ole Miss) in a few days, so things could get even worse for them. Georgetown also had a local top 75 player from Gonzaga commit to them during the summer, but did not sign his LOI during the early signing period, which is also causing their fanbase some angst.

#20 VCU lost 2 close games to Tennessee and Purdue in an OOC tournament. Richmond beat Boston College by 20 yesterday at home. St.Joe's lost by 16 to St.Frances (PA), St.Joe's is starting to play like the team that was projected to finish in last place, but they still have the win over UConn.

Rhode Island at West Virginia     2:00
Maryland Eastern-Shore at Fordham   2   ESPN+
Southern Illinois at St.Louis    4  ESPN+
Temple vs. Davidson   4  ESPN2  - Consolation game in Orlando
La Salle at Villanova   6:30  FS1
St.Bonaventure vs. San Diego  9  - this is part of a tournament in Florida

#5 Maryland vs Marquette  1:00 on ESPN - Championship game in Orlando. Marquette guard Markus Howard has scored 91 Points in the first 2 games of this tournament(51 vs USC and 40 vs Davidson). Maryland has had a lot of trouble stopping guards this year!! Harvard guard Akin had 30 against them two days ago.

Vermont at Yale  3 on ESPN+

Charleston vs UCF  4 on ESPNU - for those of you who want to watch Colin Smith
