2022 Transfer Targets

Hot Stove is heating up as teams get knocked out of their conference tournaments.  I'm sure our ACs will start following some of the transfers so we'll have more of a clue of who might be coming, but a couple of names have piqued my interest:

Ike Nweke 6'7" F Sr.
College: Columbia
High School: Georgetown Prep, MD

2021 PPG: 15.9 RPG: 6.3 APG: 0.7 FG%: 52.9 FG3%: 25 FT%: 38.9 eFG%: 53.3

Andrew Funk 6'5" G Sr.
College: Bucknell
High School: Archbishop Wood, PA

2021 PPG: 17.6 RPG: 3.6 APG: 3.0 FG%: 43.2 FG3%: 36.3 FT%: 76.1 eFG%: 52.0

Jaylan Gainey 6'9" F Sr.
College: Brown
High School: The Academy at Smith HS, NC

2021 PPG: 9.3 RPG: 6.9 APG: 0.4 FG%: 70.3% FG3%: 0.0 FT%: 51.9% eFG%: 70.3

Mason Forbes 6'8" F Sr.
College: Harvard
High School: Folsom, CA

2021 PPG: 8 RPG: 5.3 APG: 1.2 FG%: 59.7 FG3%: 0.0 FT%: 53.8 eFG%: 59.7

Sean Durugordon 6'7" Fr.
College: Missouri
High School: Putnam Science Academy, NY

2021 PPG: 3.2 RPG: 1.2 APG: 0.1 FG%: 35.5 FG3%: 22.2 FT%: 82.4 eFG%: 38.7

[acolor=#000000]Honorable Mention:[/color]
Matt Nunez from ETSU.  Didn't do much this year but was a former GW target.  Would consider only as a walk on.

Re: 2022 Transfer Targets

Wait until the end of next week. The list will grow exponentially. I believe there is a 24 or 48 hour hour cooling off period before you can enter the portal once you notify your coach. Most teams eliminated this week will not have meetings with players until the following week.

Roger that, Rising.

It's why my list is pretty much only Ivy Leaguers. Since you can't play in the Ivy as a grad student, these guys could be ok with taking on a rotational role on our team a la Steeves.

Obviously hoping we can find more of an impact P5'er like Creek in the next few weeks.

Re: 2022 Transfer Targets

Down below is the link to verbal commits 2022 transfer list. GW Rising is right about the end of next week because that's when we'll see a large number of BCS guys who got recruited over and/or not given a chance on the list!! Signing BCS guys has worked out for GW(and for the A-10) in terms of individual and sometimes team success.

Re: 2022 Transfer Targets

Gainey was the Ivy league defensive player of the year in 2020.

Jamie Shaw @JamieShaw5 1h
6-9 Brown grad transfer Jaylan Gainey tells @On3sports he’s heard from Creighton, Pitt, Iowa St, Temple, Loyola-Chicago, Georgetown, George Washington, Ole Miss, Clemson, Oklahoma, UNCG, St. Bonaventure, etc. He averaged 9.3 points, 6.9 boards, 2.1 blocks last season @SlimJaylan

Re: 2022 Transfer Targets

Totally random, but in case anyone is wondering what the mechanical process for transferring looks like, here is a Transfer Portal User Guide from 2019: http://ncaa.s3.amazonaws.com/files/apps/transfer/DI_TransferPortal_UserGuide_v2.pdf

Unfortunately the portal is very much just a boring database and not like the orb that Trump touched in Saudi Arabia.

Re: 2022 Transfer Targets

Ish Leggett leaving URI.  We were in the mix late for the DMV kid.

Re: 2022 Transfer Targets

There's a window in which players can't sign with new schools, when does that window end?

As we're without a Coach for the moment, makes it hard for us to recruit outbound transfers for the time being

Re: 2022 Transfer Targets

Ish Leggett has probably played well enough to get BCS interest, I think he'll end up at an ACC or Big East school like several guys(Nick Honor, Jared Bynum, Joel Soriano) who have transferred out of the A10 in recent years.

These aren't recruiting targets, but it is interesting news, George Mason has had 4 or 5 guys transfer out within the last few days, Kim English is cleaning house!!

The guys who transferred out have been "underutilized" players who Kim English probably wanted to replace but you could be right, the question is though, Columbia, Missouri or Columbia, South Carolina!! Frank Martin just got fired!

Re: 2022 Transfer Targets

Not too surprised by the large number of transfers from Mason. KE hit the portal pretty hard when he first arrived last year and I imagine that'll be the case this year too. Getting "his guys"

Re: 2022 Transfer Targets

Maryland point guard Marcus Dockery has entered the transfer portal. If Brayon Freeman leaves, he could be a target to replace him. He's from the area and played at O'Connell and Roosevelt in D.C. He would have 2 or 3 years of eligibility left

Re: 2022 Transfer Targets

Hate to sound like a broken record, but if you are not considering NIL/collectives, you are missing a huge piece of what's going to take place in the transfer portal.  Playing time--and now $$$--will be even more significant factors for players in deciding where to go--and if GW can't provide money, players' expectations will be lots of playing time.

If you think some players resent not getting playing time now, just wait until they see others getting some meaningful cash at other schools simply because they are a member of the basketball team. Sadly, those are difficult ingredients to manage in team chemistry.  It's also a lot for any coach to manage and will impact where established coaches with competing opportunities decide to go.  The problem is particularly acute at GW unless WE as fans are willing to compete hard off the basketball court.  In this regard, the collective GW fanbase is a 1 star player.

Re: 2022 Transfer Targets

Are we forgetting there's no head coach to attract anyone from the transfer portal or anywhere else for that matter?
