Re: 2022 Transfer Targets

Very welcome news.  While I did not foresee James wearing an NBA uniform just yet, I think you have to be concerned about G-League or international opportunities anytime a player decides to test the waters.  Am not sure how competitive this team will be with James but my sense was that it was going to be pretty awful without him.

Not holding my breath, but UNC's Anthony Harris entered the portal.  Guard out of Paul VI was recruited by Miami.  Redshirted his freshman year, played in the rump 2020 season and was "inactivated" midway through last year.

Commits to URI.

Rhode Island now has 3 local guards in Harris, Leggett, and Freeman.

Wonder how the breakdown for minutes will go for those three. Does Freeman get the primary ball handling duties like he would’ve had here?

San Diego transfer Joey Calcaterra (@JoeyCalcaterra2) tells me that he’s just visited UTEP & George Washington.
Averaged 8.5 points and 35% from three in 29 games this past season.

Visiting for two days has got to be a good sign.

Need time to take pics for a “1000% committed” tweet afterward.

Re: 2022 Transfer Targets

He would be a nice add.  More playing time than at Michigan or Georgia

Excellent post above.
Seems like a good guy (team captain) and a great fit. Sure Joey wants to have more impact in his graduate year--and we have the playing time and opportunity.

Re: 2022 Transfer Targets

Wouldn't that make 7 guys on the roster to play the 4/5?

Baker
Dean
Brown
Harvey
Lindo
Samuels
West Jr.

We still need a ball-handling guard

Not sure how to imbed a YouTube but here is an analysis of Baker

Scratch that, I assume Baker would play more of a spot up 3

Re: 2022 Transfer Targets

Yeah that video I posted say 3 with the ability to play 4 in a small ball situation.

Yep, he’s not going to be Creek but could be a rich man’s Mikic? Maybe something like 10-12 PPG and 4-5 RPG? Don’t know anything about his defense.

Re: 2022 Transfer Targets

GW0509,  I was totally in agreement with your post on this being an underwhelming beginning for Caputo(even though I never got around to commenting), but signing a guy like Baker(former top 50 player, stretch 4??) would be huge. I didn't think there were that much left in the transfer portal and haven't checked that stuff in a while, but I'm happy to be wrong. He could have a Tyler Cavanaugh/Mo Creek/Zeke Armwood like impact at GW when you look at his game. His potential at GW where he could be a featured player is off the charts

Joey Baker has already been overlooked/recruited over at Duke for 4 years, so why take the chance of that happening again at Georgia or Michigan?

Re: 2022 Transfer Targets

Joey Baker would be an absolute huge addition for GW, the last 3 seasons Joey Baker was in the rotation on absolutely loaded Duke teams

Re: 2022 Transfer Targets

He is a good player.  Really stood out in limited minutes in several games this year.  Can shoot it, but also has a knack for blocking shots or getting steals. Don’t know how much of an adjustment he’d face suddenly being a second option vs being the 5th option, but I suspect he can make it.
