Re: Other Games Thread

Georgetown is hosting UMBC right now on FS2, Georgetown trails 27-19 midway through the first half, UMBC has already hit 5 or 6 uncontested 3 pointers

Re: Other Games Thread

San Diego topped Longwood yesterday in a battle of former GW assistants (Coach Devlin and Coach Bousley). The Toreros won 71-68 at the buzzer in a crazy sequence to end the game:
https://twitter.com/NCAABuzzerBters/status/1597440419737919488

Former Player Update
Jameer Nelson Jr. (Delaware) - Averaging 19 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 3 apg, 1.8 spg which leads the team. He had 30 on Sunday against Penn.
Brayon Freeman (Rhode Island) - Averaging 12.5 ppg, 2.7 rpg, 1.3 apg, shooting below 40% from the field. He started 0-17 to begin his career at URI but has since shot 46% which is closer to what was expected of him. Interesting that he isn't playing the primary passer role on the Rams this year.
Jamison Battle (Minnesota) - Averaging 11.3 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 1.3 apg, shooting under 30% from the field. He is just getting back from injury so probably working his way back to being 100%.
Shawn Walker Jr. (Mercer) - Averaging 11 ppg, 3 rpg, and 2 apg, shooting 43% from 3. He starts for the Bears.
Mezie Offurum (James Madison) - Averaging 10.8 ppg, 5.5 rpg, 1.4 apg shooting 68% from the field.

Others:
Tyler Brelsford did not play in Bryant's upset against Syracuse, but is usually in the rotation averaging 4.8 ppg and shooting 46% from 3. Joe Bamisile comes off the bench for Oklahoma but barely played in the ESPN Invitational tournament. He averaged 7.3 ppg in their first four contests but against 3 P6 opponents in the tournament he had 1 FG attempt per game - perhaps foreshadowing his role during conference play. I still think that was the wrong school for him. Chase Paar appears to be a deeper bench option at Towson averaging 3.3 ppg in the games he has played in. Lincoln Ball is averaging 2.2 ppg at American. He started in Saturday's contest against St. Francis (PA) but otherwise usually comes off the bench. We will of course see him later in the year.

Shandon Brown (Franklin Pierce) and Marcus Littles (West Chester) are both in the D2 ranks now but barely play for their respective schools. Sloan Seymour had committed to D2 St. Rose in the offseason but only his brother is listed on the roster so I'm assuming he's moved on from college at this point.

Re: Other Games Thread

Good update DMV

A real range of hits and misses in recruiting.

James Madison has a 79 KenPom.

If we had kept Brayon JoeBam and Battle we'd be pretty good right now, but also too many misses, switching to CC will prove the right move in the long run

Re: Other Games Thread

I’ll let FQ, BM and DMVpiranha educate me, Bonaventure returned less than 10 career points, right and they are 5-2!

Re: Other Games Thread

Tafara Gapare drilled a 3-pointer with just over a minute left to give UMass the lead and RJ Luis added two free throws with a second left to seal a 71-68 win at Harvard on Friday night.

UMASS is 6-1

Re: Other Games Thread

FredD, I think continuity can be overrated - especially when you're playing the same set of guys for several years. At some point, there is a natural ceiling that is reached where a team cannot achieve more. Schmidt isn't playing that much of a deeper rotation, but he is playing more guys this year than he has in the past now that he isn't "tied" to those five guys. Bonaventure had a reputation the past few years of playing the fewest bench minutes in the country. I think that has helped keep guys fresher and perform better this year. I will say that I'm surprised he's got his guys to learn his system so quickly, but his pickups of guys like Luc, Banks, and Hill who were good performers at the lower level probably went more under the radar than it should have.

In other news, UMass defeated Harvard 71-68. Seems like Tafara is playing more minutes for the Minutemen now. He hit a big three late with a minute left to go to put UMass up and they never trailed after that. Gapare finished with 8 points off the bench.

Re: Other Games Thread

I think its good to have a Coach of Frank Martin resume/stature at UMASS and I think he's going to turn that program around

in 25 years they've made just 1 NCAA tourney

Re: Other Games Thread

Georgetown is playing South Carolina right now on FS1. Georgetown is up by 11 at the half. I'm starting to feel a little bad for G.G.Jackson because playing on a terrible team appears to be damaging his on-court performance and demeanor, I hope this doesn't lower his draft stock.

What I find interesting about Frank Martin's situation in the A10 is, he's probably going to be the coach with the most talent in the majority of the conference games, that's a stark contrast to his time at South Carolina when he had to "coach up" undermanned teams to face powerhouses of the SEC who were highly ranked and had multiple NBA players. He hasn't been in this sort of position in a while

Re: Other Games Thread

Oklahoma is playing at Villanova right now on CBS, the game is at the half, OU is up by 2

VCU is playing at Temple right now on ESPNU

St. Bonaventure at Buffalo      2:30
Davidson at Delaware            2 - DMV Piranha mentioned that Jameer Jr leads Delaware in scoring
DePaul at Loyola-Chicago     4  ESPN +  - I'm shocked that DePaul would play them on the road when you see how good Loyola has been in recent years
Providence at Rhode Island   5  ESPNU

Re: Other Games Thread

Fordham wins again, on the road.  They're 8-1

South Carolina beats Georgetown  74-71

GG Jackson looks very good vs G'town today. Thomas I think their record will have no bearing on his draft stock, I remember Jaylen Brown surprised everyone by picking Cal, as the #3 HS recruit in the nation, and 1 year later went #3 in the NBA draft regardless.  Ben Simmons to LSU as well

Re: Other Games Thread

Not a good day for the conference so far. VCU trails at Temple by 12, late in the game;  St. Joes trails at home vs Fairleigh Dickerson  by 11 late in the game; Davidson down by 11 at halftime to a 3-4 Delaware; Duquesne down 4 at home vs. Ball State at halftime; Dayton trails at home vs. SE Louisiana by 1 at the half; Lasalle trails Penn by 3 at the half; and the Bonnies are down 2 early vs. a 3-4 Buffalo.

Re: Other Games Thread

Bamisille plays 6 minutes today, puts up 0 points and 0 assists.  For the season, averages 9.6 minutes and 3.6 ppg but he does have 1 assist for the season.  How is that tranfer working out for you Joe?

Re: Other Games Thread

Dukes won, they're 7-1.

Mason La Salle  and Dayton won too. That win for 8-1  Fordham on the road is particularly good, road win vs a KenPom top 100

Jameer Jr Blocked a 3 at the buzzer to preserve the win for Delaware over Davidson

Re: Other Games Thread

Oklahoma plays at a slow, methodical pace, which is the complete opposite of Bamisile's game. He definitely made the wrong choice, I wouldn't be surprised if he transferred again. The last few minutes of regulation and overtime of the Georgetown-South Carolina game was just a comedy of errors (missed free throws, errant passes, lazy rebounding, etc.) from both teams, Georgetown just wanted to lose a little bit more. Both teams have a chance to go winless in their conference.

The Dude, GG Jackson went scoreless in the 1st half when I posted my comment and South Carolina slept walked through most of that 1st half (like they did at Smith Center 2 days ago), but GG dominated in the 2nd half, he had at least 25. When his name gets called in the first round of the NBA draft, they'll be several clips from this Georgetown game in his highlight package. During the GW game the announcers mentioned that there were 16 NBA scouts at the Smith Center to see GG, and the way he struggled against GW, and the 1st half against Georgetown made me think his stock could be dropping, but you're right, as long as he can put up decent numbers and show the athleticism/all-around skill, the losses won't matter. Anthony Edwards was another highly touted player whose college team was terrible, and he still went #1 or 2.

Re: Other Games Thread

I only saw the 2nd half! ha!  Could explain it.  He's only 17! He could have waited a year, played for North Carolina next year, but I think he's a top 10 pick and gets a full year to showcase his skill on a team that will feed him the rock.

I think actually, generally guys are better being the focal point than competing for the limelight like at Kentucky or Duke.   Would Devin Booker have slipped to 14th in the draft if he was playing somewhere else?

Would Obi Toppin have been picked so highly??

Rutgers blows out top 10 Indiana   63-48

HUGE win for The GW Troika, who lost Geo Baker and also Ron Harper Jr to the NBA but roll right on.

Saint Louis beat Southern Illinois (top 100 win) but Loyola lost in OT to DePaul

Re: Other Games Thread

Maybe I wasn't looking closely enough, but didn't Georget$%n have a 1 point lead with seconds to go?
But the cowards wind up losing to a team we absolutely thrashed.
Makes the win on Wednesday taste even sweeter.
