Gotta figure CC is on him. Still waiting for a recruit announcement based on ZB Insta post referenced in another thread. Maybe Aire is it????

Correction: Has he visited GW?

If Donovan is right, it's us, Penn State and New Mexico vying for Aire. Let's hope that New Mexico is too far away from Aire's home base, and that Penn State, with two 6'10" players already on next year's roster including Wahab from Georgetown, is too crowded up front. It would be nice, just once, for a big to choose GW where he would be THE MAN over a big school with plenty of money to throw around.

We've reached out to FIU transfer Austin Williams

How about this guy? Playing his eighth year!

List of top 150 transfers of the year. JNJ in at #8.

JNJ is #8 and Ace Baldwin is #17? This tells me about all I need to know about this list.
Justyn Fernandez slightly ahead of Josh Oduro? That's a bit of a head-scratcher too.

Agreed this list is ridiculous.

Looks like we're pursuing D2 Saint Anselm transfer Owen McGlashan. Averaged 12.5 ppg, 7.1 rpg, 2.2 apg last year while shooting 41% from 3. McGlashan is a native of NJ who began his career at Denver.
He visited Sam Houston State prior to the dead period (which seems to have come at an unideal time - couldn't they move it out a couple weeks?).

I guess it makes sense to have a dead period coincide with commencement at a whole bunch of schools but I agree it seems to be a tough break to not be able to have kids come to campus when we need multiple pieces still.

So he started at Denver, transferred down to D2 St Anslem has now visited Sam Houston State, and we offered him? On paper, not the guy I thought CC and staff would be going after, unless he will be a walk on.

50% 3/point shooter in conference. Can he do that in A10?

Ok, at first glance competing with Sam Houston State for a player might be impressive. But then look at Sam Houston State last season -- 26-8 overall, 14-4 in the WAC, 73 Kenpom rating with wins at Oklahoma and at Utah. It sure beats anything GW has done in a long time.

Well, if that is the case, I hope I eat my words!

Philip Alston had a good season at Loyola after coming over from D2 California (PA). Granted, he averaged a double double (20 points, 10 rebounds) at the D2 level. Can't think of other D2 to A10 transfers at the moment but there are probably a few other cases.
McGlashan's three point shooting and rebounding numbers look pretty good albeit at a lower level. The question becomes what kind of role he would be expected to play. I have my doubts if he's expected to start but this team definitely needs more upperclassman experience outside of JB. It's clear CC is prioritizing landing forwards in the 6'7" to 6'9" range. McGlashan doesn't possess great height, but maybe that isn't what CC is looking for + it's a one year rental.
Having said that, it's been tough that we haven't been able to land guys with D1 experience in the portal so far. NIL + team mediocrity only feels like half the story, but who knows. Duquesne has landed four productive forwards (Savrasov, Drame twins, Mahorcic). Even getting one would be nice.
As for Sam Houston State, they've had good basketball history the past couple decades but I think it says a lot that their head coach Hooten left for the train wreck that is New Mexico State this offseason. NMSU probably pays better and has better history but it feels like a minor upgrade and if I remember correctly both Sam Houston State and New Mexico State are going to be joining the C-USA next year so he's not even upgrading conferences. Hooten leaving suggests SHSU isn't an upper-tier job in their conference despite the recent success.

Yeah that's probably the reason, although I'm guessing there are probably schools that have commencement before and after the period as well. It made sense a few seasons ago, but I think in the transfer era it makes sense to push it to June - maybe the week before the next live period. Players are also taking longer to decide with NIL and all.

We had pretty good success with a D3 guy in Matt Hart. Would gladly take that kind of a player.

This whole process basically boils down to rent-a-player for a year or two. Not good! At leaset, however, it gives us something to talk about--and fret about--in the offseason.
