Re: The Coaching Carousel Thread

This has bad karma written all over it.  First, Arkansas runs Eric Musselman out of town, a coach who had an admittedly disappointing year coming off of three consecutive trips to the Dance.  What an entitled and ungrateful fan base.  And now, they hitch their star to Calipari who has yet to figure out the new world of college basketball and does not look all that motivated to learn.  Maybe a new job gets his juices flowing?  Otherwise, get ready for the Razorback faithful bitching about how little he accomplishes given what he is paid, and for Calipari to blame everyone in sight except himself for any perceived disappointments.

They didn’t run Muss out. He’s a California guy and always wanted to coach there so when the USC job opened up, he jumped at it.

Here's an article on how Musselman was praying that USC would take him to remove the pressure of his having to have to find a landing spot.  The fans wanted the AD's scalp until he came through with Calipari.  And, if you had read through so many of the tweets on X, you would know that the fan base clearly wanted Musselman gone.

Re: The Coaching Carousel Thread

Bummer to lose him, but hopefully Caputo will bring in someone brilliant to improve our coaching staff.

Re: The Coaching Carousel Thread

Kind of a broken record when it comes to replacing ACs, but it would be good to get an AC with DMV ties again.

Also, Mike Hall just finished up another year as an AC in the G League and still lives in the area (just sayin'!)

Yes! A million times over. Get Mike in for an interview. He's got the experience now.

Re: The Coaching Carousel Thread

I got to know Zak and really liked him; he loves the game and did a great job in his briefings in the President's Club

Re: The Coaching Carousel Thread

Unmentioned in this thread so far but two of the biggest women's jobs opened up this month. Looks like $tanford is going in-house to replace retiring Tara van Derveer while Tennessee poached Marshall's coach after her one season there.

Mount St Mary’s coach resigned to become an assistant coach at Syracuse.

Wonder is we see Jamion Christian come back to his alma mater?

Re: The Coaching Carousel Thread

Zak is extremely likable and had as much of a "hands-on" approach to coaching the team as any of CC's assistants.  He has also done a lot behind the scenes in helping past and present student managers of which he was once one himself.  He will most certainly be missed.

I would have loved to see Mike Hall regularly in the Smith Center again but the decision has been made to promote Matt Colpoys from within.  Part of me would have liked to see a more experienced hire but the budgets are likely too tight for that. Am hoping that between Lamont Franklin and Dwayne Lee, C will have sounding boards to help assist with game-day decisions.

Predictions for the Coach Cal replacement at Kentucky?

Have noted that the seat was getting quite warm for years for Cal, and now he's gone.

Maybe Scott Drew?

Re: The Coaching Carousel Thread

Interesting.  Baylor over Kentucky, kudos to Scott for his loyalty and incredible success at Baylor staying the course it seems

Hmmm, Bruce Pearl might be the guy eh?

Any dark horses?

Is Kentucky the best job in the country or would you rather be at Duke or North Carolina?

Re: The Coaching Carousel Thread

Wow.  I get that Pope played there and that Pitino gave him a glowing endorsement.  But this smacks of how far the mighty have fallen.  Let's put it this way, when was the last time prior to this that Kentucky hired a new head coach who had never won an NCAA tournament game?  Even Billy Gillispie had done that at A&M before his short stint in Lexington.

MSM ended up going with Donny Lind, a former assistant at the school from 2013-16 who has spent the last few seasons at UNC Greensboro under Mike Jones (who?)

Speaking of head coaches at mid majors leaving to become assistants at high majors, there are reports that Jeff Linder is leaving Wyoming to take an assistant position under Grant McCasland at Texas Tech. I can understand leaving MSM to go to Syracuse, but TTU can pull a head coach from the Mountain West? Linder is only a couple years removed from a tournament appearance but apparently the NIL money is scarce in Laradise and things were trending down.

It's hypothetical, but if CC isn't able to show forward progress in the coming years, could he do the same before a possible firing? I thought the A10 was safe from that kind of a move, but if it happens in the MW then I guess anything is possible.

On a side note, this kind of a move in May screws both the school and players. Wyoming just signed a guy from Japan a day earlier! Whoever takes over at Wyoming won't have many replacement options to work with and the players won't have many landing spots either. I assume the Cowboys promote their top assistant but Sundance Wicks (awesome name/current Green Bay HC) would be a great choice and he's a WY native.

Is the player from Japan tall?
We should have a big in.
