Wonder what this could be referring to? May not be related to GW at all

I know that the old way is out the window, with unrestricted transferring and money involved, but to be losing players to conference rivals Duquesne, URI, The Bonnies (am I leaving anyone out?) kinda hurts.
The only player I was bummed about losing of the three when they left for a conference rival was Bray, but of course we all know what's transpired since he left and that may have been a blessing in disguise. Maybe I would have felt more strongly about it if any of them went to a true rival (although I don't that GW really has one; probably a discussion for a separate thread as to whether GW has one but I'm still not feeling the Mason one despite the consistent efforts to make it a rivalry).
I agree with the larger point though. This offseason alone we've seen Aden Holloway go from Auburn to Alabama, Kobe Johnson (a captain no less) go from USC to UCLA, Roddy Gayle go from Ohio State to Michigan, and most recently Kadary Richmond go from Seton Hall to St. John's. It's unfortunately all about the money now and transferring to a rival doesn't mean anything to the player.
That's on top of all of the flipped commitments. I mentioned Tonje last week, but VCU was a victim of that last weekend when Jamarii Thomas flipped to South Carolina.
What may be arguably even worse is the players posting the "I'm back" graphics only to enter the transfer portal weeks later. It's truly the wild wild west and hard to believe anyone is actually on the team until the season starts in November. I'm not even celebrating the committed recruits until the official account tweets out that they are all signed.

Michigan freshman guard George Washington III has reentered the transfer portal, source told ESPN. He initially entered following the coaching change, then withdrew his name in mid-April. Played in 22 games as a freshman for the Wolverines.

Well, wouldn't want yet another guard. And it's not like he lit it up with a 1.2 average and 18.5 FG%.y
Though he does have an intriguing skill set that could pay off in the A-10.
But other than that, how could this happen. Does he not recognize fate?
Wouldn't even need his name on the back of the jersey.
We no longer have a chance for the Carl Colonials of the world.
But hopefully, if there is a hot prospect named Rodney Revolutionary, we sign him.

We can debate whether the loss of the individual player hurts. In our case, all 3 I believe did hurt. Brayon was an excellent player, as was Maximus, although sadly both had issues between the ears. As for Brown, my first thought was no big loss, especially if Hunter Dean had stayed, but given our issues in the post all season, Noel would have helped. What bothers me, alt least in my 1980s way of thinking, is that a player leaving us to join another conference team is that player viewed an in conference move as a step up. Again, with NIL money involved, that is no longer necessarily the case,

LSF, if you were thinking that during the 1980's, let's just say it had to be a miniscule sample size. Back then, the general rule of thumb was that guys who wanted to transfer within the conference had to sit out two seasons, not just one. This loosened up over time. For example, Jarrod Uthoff redshirted a year at Wisconsin before transferring tom Iowa. He sat out the following season but Bo Ryan was demanding that he sit for two full seasons after a redshirt season. Virtually the entire college basketball world thought Ryan was nuts and he eventually relented. Closer to home, Trey Davis opted not to play for GW after KH was released and set his sights on UMASS. He did sit for a year even though he never played for GW but GW was asking for two years since this was the A10 rule. (This was loopholed based on the fact that Trey never actually played for GW.) The point being that having to sit out for two full years was so punitive that hardly anyone transferred within a conference.
It is something though...going from having to sit 2 years to transfer within a conference to being able to do this every year without ever sitting out.

GW damn well better not wear the (stupid) pictograph unis when they play Richmond. I want this kid to be confused by coming on the court and seeing the other team wearing his name!

Richmond also got a transfer from UCONN today.

Tyler Brelsford back in the portal.
Seemed like a good kid. Never really made a leap at Bryant. His stat rates were pretty similar this year at Bryant to what they were as a freshman at GW.
Will be interested to see where he goes.
Headed to Morehead State. They're usually a lot better than the rest of the OVC so he has a good chance at making the dance even though the Eagles lost their coach to JMU.

Brought to you by the “Highest NET rating in GW history” crew, I guess. Pretty comical.

Was thinking the same thing.

I see Christian Jones is coming back - what was his deal last year? I kind of just assumed he was a goner.

Christian Jones was a top 300 recruit who reportedly may have had the highest upside of any of our frosh recruits last season. He redshirted last season to work on developing his game.

CC needs to take control of all communications involving men's basketball.
This is embarrassing but no surprise considering the state of our athletic dept the last several years.
Why is Brian Serrano still getting paid? An intern could do a better job.

I think anyone could benefit from a redshirt year, but that equation has been upended.
But do find it odd that if he is good enough to play--and we lost 12 games in a row, whether he
would be worth trying and taking the redshirt off.
It would have been worth trying a lot of things differently, given the outcome.

Maybe better for the team. But think about it from the students perspective. It cuts their eligibility down because they’d have lost half their season for no reason then. In professional sports sure, we see this all the time, but for college (despite it becoming more and more professional by the day), it’s a bad look. It can be a conversation you have with the student sure, but otherwise I don’t see it happening at a mid major like GW.

Jones was also injured prior to the season.

Yeah, clearly Jones was going to relegate Bishop to the bench. Jones and Caputo assessed the situation going into the season and mutually decided redshirting would be best. Shifting gears trying to break a long in-season losing streak is the kind of desperation clamored for by those less focused on long term objectives. Despite the pessimistic expectations of many here, Caputo is returning all the players he wanted or felt a commitment to return.

So what are you not telling us about Max and his relationship with the coach and/or teammates, Poog?
