He looks good, at least stat-wise.
Believe coaching staff has good relations with Yuta.
His going from GW to a very rare Japanese NBA player should be a pretty good selling point for us.

On a side note, this kind of a move in May screws both the school and players. Wyoming just signed a guy from Japan a day earlier! Whoever takes over at Wyoming won't have many replacement options to work with and the players won't have many landing spots either. I assume the Cowboys promote their top assistant but Sundance Wicks (awesome name/current Green Bay HC) would be a great choice and he's a WY native.
Nailed it, dmv - Sundance Wicks to Wyoming

Thanks! It's honestly amazing Wyoming was able to get that done so quickly and get Wicks to sign late in the offseason, although I don't think Green Bay had too many players committed. Now Green Bay has to go through another coaching change, just when things were starting to look up after a disastrous three win season a couple years ago...I guess they have to go the interim promotion route unless some former head coach is really excited about a decent but not great Horizon League job.

In a surprising twist, Doug Gottlieb is the new HC at Green Bay. Didn't see that one coming

I can't fathom Gottlieb working out up there. His name isn't nearly as strong as others who sort of jumped in at the Head Coach level (think Juwan Howard) without any real coaching experience, and Howard flamed out.
Howard at least was an NBA Assistant -- Gottlieb has coached in a few Maccabiah Games, and that's in no way shape or form a recruiting/training/competition annual cycle that requires 80 hours a week nearly all year round. I know his dad was a coach and he's been around the game and commenting on the game a long time, but I still not sure he understands what he's in for.

To be honest, my immediate thought upon hearing this news was that Gottlieb would probably keep his national radio show while also serving as a college basketball head coach. This thought was not serious but nevertheless, Doug plans on doing both jobs. He certainly has the ego for it.
That said, he has remarked that this will allow Green Bay to pay him less than they otherwise would have to. He raised the notion of accepting some buy games and putting half the money to the NIL collective and the other half to the athletic department. Is this even allowed? Sounds like it's not allowed.
BTW, Gottlieb has also served as an AAU coach in California for a number of years. Not suggesting that this ought to be enough to land in the head coach's seat, but it's a little more than what I first thought.

I also question how Gottlieb can be serious about being a head coach at a D-1 school and keep his radio show, especially a Hot Take radio show!! Even if keeping the radio show allows him to take a lesser salary at Green Bay and use the additional money for other needs at the school and his team/staff, I don't see how he can pull this off. It comes off as some sort of prank or skit to me!!

Thomas, Gottlieb compares what he'll be doing to the radio host who also makes tv appearances. It's amazing how detached from reality one can become in order to satisfy their own self-interest. Will he actually go on the road and recruit? He can schedule practices around his radio schedule but what if he needs to watch a recruit's game while his show is in progress? He says he will be able to talk about national recruits on his show because it's not like they're coming to Green Bay.
Am not suggesting that the job of a national radio talk show host is a taxing, time-intensive job, but last I checked, the job of Division 1 Head Basketball Coach was indeed just that.

"Detached from reality" is the perfect description of Doug Gottlieb's mindset on coaching. I understand he's been in the Hot Take business for possibly 15+ years now but you'd think a guy like Gottlieb whose father was a coach (I think Gottlieb's brother is a long-time coach too) and also was a fairly accomplished player himself would have a deep understanding of how demanding the job is. Gottlieb seems to be treating this like a father with a 9 to 5 job coaching his 12-year-old kid's soccer team on the weekends!!

The grass is NOT always greener, although "GREENER" would surely be LA $$$$$$
10 years ago I said Rhode Island had the sport's next great Coaching star in the A10, started at the bottom now he IS HERE. "Bo knows" you still scoffing laughing mocking the Hurley comments "bo?"
Where did that guy Bo Knows go? is he still in the "Blue Seats?"
Danny Hurley supernova has taken flight and sky is the limit. Hopefully GW will ascend the one thing all GW fans care about, except the fake names pretending to be "GW Fans" lmaooo Sorry BGF, sometimes after 10 years of insults and fake names time to call a spade a spade once.
CC is not Danny Hurley but I fully believe he's the right man for the GW job, Danny Hurley was an EASY prediction and here he is dominating the College Hoops world. Lakers bound? I say no but who knows, maybe "Bo Knows" lmaooooo

Dude, you just don't get it, do you?
Stick to starting your own threads. Notice that everyone has finally figured it out and ignores you?
As for the rest of us here, this is interesting. Lakers have been losing ground to the Clippers in LA for the last several years - unthinkable a few short years ago! They were at first targeting JJ Reddick. Now Hurley? In my opinion, Hurley is the smarter choice - Reddick doesn't have the coaching chops of Hurley, only the blog connection to Lebron (which may be enough for LA). LA franchise has been in a downward spiral under the leadership of the Buss kids.

Danny Hurley's decision is in:
Rejecting massive offer from The Lakers to stay at UCONN. 10-12 years ago he inherited the worst A10 program, now he's King of the Hoops Coaching world, and just getting started...a young man still....
