Duquesne now 0-2 after losing at home to Lipscomb (!!) and Princeton. Max Edwards lighting it up to the tune of 21% from the field and 11% from behind the arc after last night’s all world performance 0-10 from the field.

This might feel better if we had more to brag about our own shooting.

In the A10, Dayton is now 28 and VCU 34 in the KenPom
Very early but sure looks like barring injuries one of these 4 teams is going win the title this year....
I'll say UCONN over Kansas and UCONN and Danny Hurley pull off back to back to back titles, joining only Wooden/UCLA, but Kansas is absolutely loaded as is Gonzaga... Auburn in #5 looks at least in the mix too:
The Jayhawks received 44 of 62 first-place votes after a home win against North Carolina, a game that saw Kansas blow a 20-point lead but hold on for a 92-89 win. That kept them ahead of Alabama and two-time reigning national champion UConn in an unchanged 1-2-3 lineup in the poll, with the Crimson Tide getting six first-place votes and the Huskies getting seven.
Mark Few's Zags moved up two spots to No. 4 after blowing out then-No. 8 Baylor to open the season, then pushing past Arizona State.

I really like Florida’s roster but their coach was just hit with several charges of sexual harassment, including sending unwanted dick pics and basically stalking women. Creepy stuff.
Might detail a really good team. Condon/Haugh great center combo (plus they have a 7’9” guy who doesn’t play - yes, 7’9”) and some really fun guards like Willie Clayton.

The Wingspan certainly is impactful, amazing what an endlessly great career local DMV product Durant (injuries aside) is having e.g with that masssive wingspan, even as he nears 40, the body may age but that wingspan and crazy shooting touch still plays up. If he wants to seems like he could make it well beyond 40 like Lebron.
Speaking of which....
Question for you, are you surprised that Ryan Kalkbrenner keeps coming back to College? I realize he's very thin but doesn't his game translate to a useful NBA player? Question #2... thoughts about Edey in the NBA? I know we've discussed going back a few years what a great college player/unknown NBA player he'd be with his massive size and throwback style game, the Roy Hibbard type players sort of went extinct, thoughts on those 2 Bigs? Mobility is not ideal but what dominant college players they are, and they bring more to the NBA game it seems like a college master like Drew Timme with limited ceiling and NBA fit problems
3rd Question for the forum...Dayton VCU... ceiling on them this year? they both look like March Madness auto bids so far... any other A10 teams that could make a run into the Auto Bid territory with a good enough OOC?

Edey will succeed in the NBA. He’s much more skilled than he’s credited for being. There will be times in the playoffs when a team can’t play him (because a smaller quicker lineup will render his defense unplayable), but he’s going to make an impact. Plus, he’s developing a three point shot that will really make him tough.

Dayton is one of the few teams that can actually put together an OOC schedule that can get them in the at-large conversation. Their ceiling is lower than VCU this year imo. No game-changer like Daron up front (although Key is solid) and the backcourt firepower isn't really there offensively. Good but not great team. VCU will need to carry on without Zeb Jackson, who is out for much of OOC play. JoeBam is going to have to be less streaky offensively but I think they can manage.
As for the rest? Loyola hasn't really looked that impressive so far although it's early. Even before the CCSU loss I never bought into St. Joe's with Lange as coach (great eye for talent though) but that was a resume killer. CCSU played Providence tough as well. They're a senior laden team that took sizable strides forward last year in the NEC. The kind of team where the risk is high and the reward is low so not sure why they were on the schedule for an "easy win". Also for SJU, as much as I like Reynolds the argument that he's kind of flatlined a bit as a player is somewhat justified. I appreciate his loyalty to that program though. We'll see how they do against another underachieving coach in Neptune and Villanova tomorrow. I'm high on Mason this year but they missed out against Marquette the other night (same for UMass against WVU). Even SLU doesn't quite have the schedule despite being a contender, and of course Avila being out hurts. In general, not seeing a lot outside of Dayton and VCU right now but someone can always emerge in the next month.
In other news, Norfolk State beat James Madison by 14 at home. Makes the secret scrimmage loss look less bad. Robert Jones is a hell of a coach who is definitely deserving of a promotion (if he wants one).
North Florida also had a great first week, knocking off both South Carolina and Georgia Tech. They are receiving 14 votes in the AP Poll. That's after an offseason where they lost their best player Chaz Lanier to Tennessee.

Agreed all around and sometimes you just let a scrimmage for what its worth, but you're right about that too, concur
How about Dylan Harper and Rutgers and Pikiell? 24 points and 6 boards for #24 Rutgers in front of a packed house of 8000 racous fans, sold out it was a zoo, lucky to be there...if you get the chance watch some Rutgers this year.... Harper is a lock top 3 NBA pick and that other kid is a likely top 3 top 5 pick too, behind Cooper Flagg
Pikiell what a job he's done on the Banks of the Raritan

2005. Cincinnati. GW's first A10 Championship. Pikiell saw me one morning at the hotel I was staying at; which was where the team was also. He invited me to breakfast with the team. Really nice guy. Really nice time. Our first championship took a long, long time to achieve. I'm very happy for him.

Speaking of Florida, and yes, this is wayyyy off topic, but we were a Miami Dolphin loss away last night from the state of Florida going 0-12 in NFL and Division 1 college football games this week. This has never happened.

Villanova not very good this year but nice win by St Joes. Hampton giving Providence a tough game

Our old friend Lincoln Ball and the American Eagles are hanging tough with UNC at the Dean Dome. Currently down 5 with under 6 minutes to play.

Must have been a rough last 6 minutes. UNC won by 52.

I definitely agree on Kevin Durant! He could play well into his 40's because the biggest factors in his success is his height/wingspan and shooting ability, not necessarily athleticism. Durant will be able to shoot over everyone well into his 50's and maybe early 60's and hi
Zach Edey's success and where he got drafted was stunning to me because it seemed as if the days of the back-to-the-basket center were long gone. But its possible that he's a lot more skilled than the slow, plodding player that big men who don't shoot 3's get labeled as, which FQ pointed out. He's been one of the more productive rookies in the NBA this year as Memphis has found a way to use him effectively as a starter and a reserve. It looks like Edey is having an easier transition to the NBA than the other rookie big men who got more hype because they take a lot of 3's and can throw down highlight reel dunks!

Edey 2 for 2 again from 3 last night, his start has been really impressive
Speaking of 50s athletes, Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson now 58......YIKES
Gonzaga won 113-54, and if you haven't seen that Rutgers dynamic duo of Freshmen...woah
Mike....58 man, but hell, he had his moments granted vs a youtuber on PEDs but still

Melo's son picks....CUSE
How about Columbia winning at Villanova?? woah. Jim Engles has things cooking a little bit in NYC
As good as Cooper Flagg is, pretty easy to see Ace Bailey going #1 overall.

Duquesne is still winless on the year after losing at home to Milwaukee. Max Edwards finishes with 3 points on 1-4 shooting.

Duquesne is playing the type of OOC schedule that a lot of people on here want us to play. It will be interesting to see if they are more or less "prepared" to battle in conference than we are.

I actually watched the last 30 minutes or so of the game and Max did not play. Wonder if he got injured during the game or if he is already in the doghouse.

He started but only played 7 minutes
