And so it begins, Kevin Keatts fired by NC State 1 year after a Final Four run

It actually began when Larranaga and Hamilton retired. Glad you caught up.

Interesting article on ESPN.com re coaches being mentioned as potential to move up. Odom from VCU and Skinn from Mason mentioned as well as the Loyola Chicago coach. All speculation of course but that would be a lot of turnover if you add in potential openings in UMass and Fordham and replacing LaSalle already

URI could also be in the mix. I think the fans at Davidson are getting restless as well but don't see anything happening this year. Mooney should be fine but another year like this one and they will be calling for his head again.

Must have missed the mention earlier but Darris Nichols is the new guy at La Salle. Unfortunately, that is forcing me to once again bring up the stupid home and home that GW had with Radford a couple years back but Nichols had the Highlanders ready to play in those games. I don't know if the fit is perfect but I can definitely understand the thought process by La Salle trying to get a younger guy willing to grind.
Apparently Radford responded by hiring SMU's analytics guy who has no HC experience but comes from a family with lots of money. It will be interesting to see what happens there.
Outside of that, Minnesota is expected to hire Colorado State's Niko Medved, a Minneapolis native. Makes a lot of sense. UNLV fired their coach (Lon Kruger's son) but considering Otzelberger failed in Vegas and how he's doing now at Iowa State, maybe it's just a bad job now?
Perhaps the most shocking development was Iona firing Tobin Anderson this morning after he took them to the MAAC championship and they lost to Mount St. Mary's. What are they expecting? The Gaels have to already know the replacement otherwise firing Anderson after two years is ridiculous. The MAAC sucks, but I guess if a school like Iona puts in even a bit of resources they can contend in the league every year.

Funny how he signed his deal less than 24 hours after his team lost. I know that's how it works, but it never ceases to amaze me.

Surprised nobody mentioned the firing of Keith Urgo (Fordham). After a great first year, it was probably a combination of alleged recruiting violations and finishing dead last in the conference that sealed his fate. Was surprised to read that Fordham's basketball budget is in the top 3rd of the conference. Not much to show for for the money, however, for the perennial bottom feeder of the conference.

Do they bring Neptune back? Know he underachieved in the Big East but they were happy with him during his 1st go around

Let me get this straight - Xavier loses Sean Miller again (to Texas), so they're apparently going to replace him with Chris Mack, again??? Time is a flat circle in Cincy

Nico Medved to Minnesota, his alma mater.

Yeah, that's pretty shocking. Was thinking at the A-10 tournament about why Fordham is always a bottom feeder. Great location and access to talent, big budget, pays well (Urgo made $1m per year according to NY Post). Why can't they get it together?

Again, less than 24 hours later, another coach bails. Was he already in negotiations with Minnesota before the tournament? I'm assuming so. Bet he didn't even wait an hour after the game to give the Gophers a buzz.

Ben McCollum to Iowa. Once DeVries chose Indiana over Iowa, this was pretty much a done deal. It wasn't that long ago when a new head coach would never change programs after one season at his current stop. What a terrible look. Today, DeVries and McCollum are two examples of coaches who waved goodbye after a single season. At UVA, Ryan Odom will be coaching at his 4th school in 6 seasons. Most people don't think twice anymore. An admirable exception is Michigan's Dusty May who grew up as a ballboy and student manager for Indiana yet killed any and all rumors of his leaving Ann Arbor for Bloomington after just one season. That was his dream job he said "no thanks" to.
And what to make of what's happening in College Park? An ugly power struggle between Kevin Willard and Damon Evans has ended with Evans leaving to become the new AD at SMU, with Willard publicly acknowledging this before the official announcement was made. Willard could have the Villanova job right now but I do believe he wants to stay at Maryland (yesterday's win did not hurt) as long as the school makes a more substantial investment in his program. Reports on this story have ranged from Willard being upset that he couldn't keep his team in NYC over Christmas for an extra day to women's basketball assistant coaches being paid more than men's assistant basketball coaches. I predict he'll stay at Maryland, with a new AD he can work with and a budget he can appreciate.

Josh Pastner to UNLV. Thought he did a nice job as a tv analyst for a couple of years.
