Dominant 2nd half.... dominant victory
GW 4-0 rolls on

Hail to the Buff! Hail to the Blue!!!!!
GW 96 ODU 73
ODU awoke me from my slumber with their run at the end of the 1st half, but GW came out like gangbusters to the start the 2nd for another comfortable win (and after a few years in the wilderness it is nice to experience a few of those). Still much to improve on, but with a shortened bench (stupid injuries) this performance was just fine. Anyone -- looking at myself-- who thought this could be a "trap game" was mistaken. Will this game be seared in to my memory like Shawnta´s shot against X? No. But is a 4-0 start a good thing? Yes.
Worst part of the night, when Pastos started listing off current GW players who "can" play in the NBA (my list is comprised of less than one player). Best part, the applause at the unveiling of Joe Hollup´s jersey.

If AI is to be trusted, this is the first time in school history with 3 straight 95+ point games.

Game is fairly easy to sum up. After playing a lackluster first half in which ODU hit an insane percentage of threes, we came out in the second half with absolutely suffocating defense that turned a 3 point half time lead into a 20 point lead in the blink of an eye. Found it interesting that we played at a pace fast enough to put up another 96 points but had only 6 turnovers for the game. Imagine if more of the 3s were falling (6-22 but with a couple of arounds and out) and Garrett Johnson still appears to have some rust notwithstanding his 17 points. We had only 14 assists on 31 made field goals, which works against a team like ODU, which had difficulty guarding us one on one, but may not work against better competition. And we did all this without Autry or Bevins. Up to (or is it down to) 68 in the KemPom, which is second best A-10 ratings (behind only VCU at 62. Nice being 4-0.

Nice to pull away in the second half. GW was prob a tad slow with rotating in the first half, but there was always going to be a game where a team gets hot from 3 (didn't expect it to be ODU honestly given they were like 27% from deep coming into the game) combined with the Revs going cold. GW came into the game ranked 283rd in 3PA% allowed, yet 13th in defensive 3P%. That's obviously not sustainable. It was that much more impressive to be leading at the half despite ODU having a +15 point advantage from threes.
Happy that Slim had a good game. I thought GW was going to have the better frontcourt going into the game by a sizable margin and that played out, with Slim taking advantage. He had several really impressive moves, both in the halfcourt and transition.
Woo just continues to impress. He plays the glue guy role very well. Knows when to look for his shot offensively, but is just as good defensively with his activity. The fact that GW may be able to get away with playing him some at the 5 is just a luxury.
Something I hadn't realized was coming into this game Bubu somehow had zero assists through three games. That finally changed tonight, and I think he may be due for some better days with his shooting (starting tonight).
I think for many matchups in OOC play Jean will be able to put up a lot of points. While I have questions whether he will be able to finish inside against bigger frontcourts in the A10, he does a lot of other things well like rebounding and defense. In general, brings good energy like all the new transfers.
Garrett seemed to be pressing a bit early on (understandable) but really settled in nicely over the course of the game. I liked that he started taking it inside - he's improved quite a bit taking it inside compared to his freshman year.
Happy to see CJ put up four assists to just one turnover - perhaps his most efficient game so far this season. Tre had an off night, but it speaks to this team that GW can more than withstand that (along with Tricky/Ty being out). I know pace plays a role (GW is top 50ish) but it's super impressive to be able to put up nearly 100 points while just making 6 threes at a sub-30% clip.
UMBC has the offense to make things interesting, and they did play Dayton tough so hopefully the team doesn't sleepwalk looking ahead to the Cayman Island games.

Couldn't watch the game, but it sounds like CC and staff made some nice halftime adjustments!

Mike - big adjustment at half to stop helping as much off the drive whe you had a shooter. This changed the game since they could not get the open 3 looks in the 2nd half and had a hard time finishing on their drives with our length.

What a great win last night. Hard to believe ODU actually had a four point lead on us late in the first half considering how we blew them away in the 2nd half.
While the almost 100 points sticks out, it was the suffocating defense in the 2nd half that really caught my attention. I think it was a combination of both good defense and demoralization considering we were red hot from the floor. Either way works for me.
So impressive to see us have five guys in double figures. That's some serious depth and talent. Of course, we're talking about AU and ODU here, but if we can get some consistent play out of our bench guys in conference season, we're going to be a force to be reckoned with.
Fun times at the Smith Center! Haven't seen a team this promising in at least 10 years.

Yes to each of this!

What's really gratifying is to watch this team win convincingly in different ways. In a flat out, tightly contested war with South Florida. With the threes on fire against AU. With a second half defensive assault against ODU. And, while missing Garrett, Trey A., Ty and Trey M. in at least one if not more or even all of these victories. The Cayman Island games, with the first one against McNeese in particular, ought to be very interesting.
