Re: GW BEATS Richmond 85-69 !!!

I always love kicking the shit out of Chris Mooney. He wasn't very whiny tonight, though, more resigned to the ass kicking he saw coming five minutes into the game.

Re: GW BEATS Richmond 85-69 !!!

Solid win for GW. Now we need to get one back against St. Louis. Not an easy task but doable.

The A-10 is again shaping up to be a one bid league unless St. Louis loses in A-10 tourney. And if St. Louis loses a few regular season games (which will likely happen) even they will not be a lock.

Obviously, hitting 17 threes again isn't realistic.

Well that's a miss on my part. Silly me for missing the fact that GW was playing a Richmond team that's been embarrassingly bad at defending the perimeter. Mooney desperately needs to change up his scheme on defense. Spider defenders were consistently going under screens and losing GW players along the perimeter. Make that an unbelievable 32 threes made in two games against the Spiders. If you think this is just a one year thing, you'd be mistaken. Since CC took over as coach, GW has had a grand total of one game where they've made fewer than nine triples against the Spiders. In the last seven meetings, the Revs have knocked down a total of 87 threes. One of those games went to double OT, but that's still an incredible stat. It even includes two games from CC's second year when the team went on a long losing streak. You would think they would close out on Tre after he made six threes at UR, but nope. Last year when he was at Duquesne, Dinkins made five threes against the Spiders so he's been killing them for a while.

Great effort overall start to finish. More than the shot-making, the defense was fairly impressive and GW did a good job of staying in front of Richmond. The traps were effective. Bubu's steal off a trap was one of the best defensive plays of the year. Richmond is fairly decent offensively, so holding them under 40% from the field is a good effort.

Really happy to see a good game from Jean on both sides of the ball. Scoring, rim attacking, distributing, getting after it on defense. This team's ceiling is raised if he can have more games like that moving forward. CJ did some damage early on, and Garrett has been shooting at a really high level as of late. It was a subpar game for Slim's standards, but UR consistently sent two bodies at him and GW still found a way to make them pay.

If I'm not mistaken, GW's play off the use-it-or-lose-it timeout just before halftime looked to be the same play (or very similar at least) to the botched inbounds one at the end of the Mason game earlier in the week. I'm glad Woo was able to redeem himself even if Tricky's jumper came up just short before the buzzer.

Re: GW BEATS Richmond 85-69 !!!

I can’t move on to thinking about the next game until piranha weighs in on the previous game. Thanks, as always.

Looked at the shot chart which shows we only took three shots that were not 3s or in the paint. And two of those were on the 3-point line.

Hope you are hanging in there and everyone is staying safe.

Wonder if there will be any issues for the team flying out to St Louis tomorrow?

Re: GW BEATS Richmond 85-69 !!!

Very nice to sweep a team that you've recently had difficulties beating.  The game's first four minutes truly set the tone with GW taking a 15-3 lead that they never let go of.  Within this opening stretch, the Spiders immediately double-teamed Slim who made them pay by finding teammates for a wide open three and cutting across the lane for an easy two.  This offense should be relying upon Slim taking it himself against one-on-one coverage and finding the open man when double teamed.  Worked very well on Saturday.

GW played a great first half and then didn't need to play great in the second half.  To their credit though, that 20 point halftime lead never fell to single digits.  I'll also add that this Richmond team looks notably less talented than previous editions under Chris Mooney.  Maybe we just match up to their depth well but both meetings had a "man vs boys" vibe IMO.
