Funniest stat of the night (I am breaking the board’s no politics rule just because it’s so up our alley as GW grads)

Chris Caputo is now 1-13 in games in states Donald Trump won in the 2024 presidential election

https://x.com/liam_0__/status/2016352595908972662

It is actually 2-13. Both wins came at Davidson.

Remaining games in states Trump won in 2024: at St. Joe's next Wednesday 2/4, at Duquesne Saturday 2/7, at La Salle Tuesday 2/24, and the A10 tournament in Pittsburgh. If they can win any of those games, it will be Caputo's first win in Pennsylvania. He's currently 0-6 (which is deeply upsetting as someone from Pennsylvania)

Guess you got lucky - after many back and forths, they are now saying that  “After speaking with management, we can't issue a refund in this case because the game went past its allotted time. It goes beyond our control with the content. I'm genuinely sorry, but this is due to company policy.”

well it seems like an unwise business strategy for an online live sports streaming site to have a policy that they can just cut off games if they run long. The magic words I said to get them to fold was threatening to file a complaint with my state's department of consumer protection for not providing a service I had purchased. You could probably dispute the charge with your credit card company since they did not deliver the service you were sold.

(And for anyone judging me about the lengths I went to get back $12.99, yes I'm willing to be this petty)

Yeah….I threatened that, the FTC, Interpol, Sheriff Joe and Inspector Clouseau. I literally was hoping for a credit of $5 or $6 bucks. Fuck ‘em.

Re: GW vs Saint Louis Game 79-76

I, too, was unsuccessful in my effort to obtain a credit.  They told me that if they were to issue a credit, then my account would need to be terminated.  There wasn't a satisfactory answer as to why this would be the case.  My sole moment of vindication came when ESPN sent me their customer satisfaction survey.  I do agree that it's not worth spending an hour to try to eek out the $12.

Because the transmission was cut at exactly 10:00pm, this leads me to believe that ESPN paid for exactly two hours of satellite time which is insane if they actually believe that all college basketball games conclude within a two hour window.  My guess is that they normally pay for far more than enough so what happened Tuesday night does not happen.  Sounds like someone screwed up and only ordered two hours for the game.

Re: GW vs Saint Louis Game 79-76

What is odd is that the broadcast (or "stream" if you will) did not end when some got cut off. One poster here was able to show it live on his Elon Musk-owned social media feed and my friendly, neighborhood pirate site kept it going too. So somewhere, someone flipped a switch to bump off some of you but not everyone. For said screw up, you should all get a credit or refund of some type.
(ESPN+ geoblocks most A10 games for my neck of the woods, so my choice is pirate site or nothing, and I hate nothing).
I wish we could go back to the school-specific streaming packages, I really do not need the Mt St Mary´s volleyball or Long Beach St softball that ESPN+ does not geoblock for me but I really would love to be able to see more GW games without having to hope some pirate site has them.

Re: GW vs Saint Louis Game 79-76

Very strange, as I watched the complete game on ESPN+ with no issues...

Re: GW vs Saint Louis Game 79-76

Same for me. No issue on ESPN+ at all

Re: GW vs Saint Louis Game 79-76

Besides blacking out for me, what may have been the most consequential 90 seconds of our season, the product more than sucks!  At least 10 times per game the camera is out of frame and shaking...as if they gave a fan a handheld camera to shoot the game.  How many times did they zoom in on Schertz?  I kept saying, "why do I have to look at him so much?"  He's almost as unphotogenic as Avila. I'll be cancelling the + very soon.  Only 2 of the last 6 games will be carried by them so...adios to my now 14.99 monthly rip off.  I just don't watch enough Bellermine women's softball enough in the offseason to flush money down the ESPN toilet.

Yeah, I wonder if it also has something to do with the fact that SLU has a TV rights deal with their local RSN (Fan Duel Sports Network) which may come with different rights than games produced for ESPN+ directly? Even when our games are shown on MASN or Monumental, it feels more like *they* are the ones paying ESPN for the feed as opposed to ESPN paying the RSN.

"So 58 years later, with all the new technology we haven't advanced much beyond the Heidi game." That was my line and I got a credit. I also told them it wasn't even the money it was the principle. I have been a ESPN+ subscriber since inception and never complained once. If you are going to broadcast a game the reasonable expectation is you will broadcast the whole thing including OTs however long that takes unless it is a blowout or some other extenuating reason. There was no disclaimer that said this broadcast ends at 10 pm ET.

P.S. Any good lawyer here might threaten a consumer class action on the basis of no readily visible disclaimers and the reasonable expectation of a full broadcast. This could be brought on behalf of all ESPN+ subscribers.

Re: GW vs Saint Louis Game 79-76

The fact that the stream cut off for some but not others remains a mystery to me. I figured maybe I was able to see it because I upgraded to ESPN Unlimited this month to watch the Australian Open tennis (which I will be immediately canceling once the tournament is over this weekend. Give me Alcaraz and Sabalenka to win) but apparently others with ESPN Unlimited also had it cut off.

Either way, here is the latest episode of the GW Basketball Insiders podcast. We mostly talked about the SLU loss but spent some time looking ahead to the remainder of A10 play and discussing where the team stands.

You generally need at least 40-50 plaintiffs to file a class action.   No need to say anything further,

Re: GW vs Saint Louis Game 79-76

I know that noone on this board is seriously thinking about doing this....but the class action would not necessarily be limited to folks watching the GW SLU game but could include anyone who had been watching a game and the broadcast suddenly and without warning just ended as it did for us.....so it actually could be lucrative for the right person

Re: GW vs Saint Louis Game 79-76

According to what I've read, this is most likely an App issue.

I used the ESPN App on my Roku and did not have any issues. I use this combination because in the past, trying to access ESPN+ content thru Hulu or Disney+ has given me problems. Also, on my alternate set-up (Amazon Fire), I notice differences in behaviors from the various Apps.
