If that's true and he wants to spend his final year playing for his old man with a chance to win the ACC and make a run in the NCAA tournament, its hard to blame him. He's been here for three years, so there is a chance he may also already have his degree, and if that's the case I almost see no reason to stay. I wish him best of luck in the future.

Trey is a good dude who has been easy to root for. He's been the best pure shooter on the team the past couple of years. That's all I know. It's hard to get emotionally attached to any player or team for that matter because of the current "pay to play" garbage and 1100 portalers. It reminds me of pickup games in the park. You pick (pay) the players you want; get on a run till the sun goes down; go home; start over the next day. No loyalty, no continuity, you just borrow it. That's why the old school and not so old school hall of fame coaches have walked away. It's a whole new ballgame they want no part of.
Trey and his dad remind me of Doc Rivers and his son: awkward situation with minimal success. Hope it works out for them. As for Coach Caputo, I hope he does well in the portal supermarket.

Sorry to see Trey go but that's the reality of NIL. You won't (and may not want to) keep everyone. The simple fact is this group of players didn't get it done to the extent most thought they would. If you don't have some change and try to run it back again you will likely get similar results especially without Castro. So change was inevitable and probably desirable on both ends. By the way, these were the two I referenced last week. But I will tell you that there is still a chance of 1-3 others who played this year departing. Again, that is being determined this week. Regardless, we will be looking at a substantially new team next year and that may not be entirely a bad thing. Good luck to Trey and Bubu and wish them all the best.
But much like both of them, we are moving on too. In this era of NIL, I refuse to get attached to any players. Everyone now plays mostly for the name on the back of the jersey. This is not 25 years ago when we watched players arrive at 18 and mature through graduation. Those were the losses I felt.

GWRising this is exactly what I was thinking. Now we get to see if the staff learned from mistakes and successes in last years portal. Its so hard to tell what players are realistic in todays portal as we don't know the exact $ GW has and what the real market is. So much noise and misinformation.

Trey was a good representative of GW on and off the court. Gave great responses in the postgame pressers and it was great to see him in attendance for WBB's WNIT round of 16 game on Friday. His shooting and rebounding was a major asset for the team, but I disagree with the notion that he really improved this year compared to last year. His floor was high but I can't help but feel that he didn't live up to his full potential at GW. Specifically, with his shot selection and becoming more of a three level scorer. If anything he showed more promise on that front in 2024-25 compared to this season. When the threes didn't fall he was a non-presence and like seemingly everyone on the team, his efficiency seemed to dip after halftime. I also felt like he could have been more helpful as a passer as well than what he showed. Some players are best served as just designated shooters, but I personally felt Tricky had more than just that in his game.
Like others said, I think it makes a lot of sense for him to make a move this offseason. He can play that designated shooter role at a P5 level well and his defense while not great is good enough to be in the rotation. GW's expectations were always going to be lower next season compared to this year and hopefully Autry gets a chance to play in the NCAA tournament. Wishing him luck.
As for Bubu, that's less of a surprise. I get what CC was going for when recruiting him, but I think it matters whether a player's production at their previous stop actually impacted winning. Tarleton was horrendous (bottom 100 bad) when Bubu led them in scoring.
I think at this point you celebrate the players that stay at GW for more than one year. It was a pleasure to watch Trey in a GW uniform for 100 games in this era. Not sure that you can really ask for more.

If Autry earned his degree then fantastic and he can move on without anyone here complaining. So congrats for him, welcome to the GW Alumni Association (the world's coolest club) and best wishes for the future. As for Bubu, I did not rralize he still has a year of elligibilty remaining, clearly he is better off spending it at a lower level than the A10. So I wish him well, too.
Meanwhile, roster churn is the new world we live in. For too long too few hoarded too much of the money made from kids and eventually the shackles were thrown off and this new era of instability was ushered in. Is there a lesson for society-at-large in that?

Bevins also in the portal

Good find, AZColonial. Ty actually has potential if healthy and puts it all together.
This would have been a good year for him if we wanted to. Not worth looking up, but remember
from last year and some this, he can shoot the 3 at times--and a decent nose for the ball.
Wouldn't think he could get the year back after having played 10 games, but maybe if he gets
Bamisile's lawyer.
Was he injured all the time he sat out, or did we just not play him--or at one point, thinking of redshirt?
Never bothered to ask about Moss because we didn't need another guard with talent, but inconsistent
play. But what injury kept him out--and did we just keep the injury redshirt on?
Also, do either of the redshirts (which caught us short in the end) have promise worth keeping?
We heard about CJ having talent during his redshirt year.

Always liked Ty. Can hit the 3 and has looooong arms. Was hoping he would get more playing time this year.

Both Bubu and Ty had talent and were solid contributors to the team, but I don't think the loss of either one of them moves the needle on what the team will be next year. In other words, they are replaceable. I am concerned, however, about losing Autry. I think his contributions went well beyond his numbers. He seems to have a high basketball IQ (not surprising for a coach's son) and he seemed to have good leadership qualities (which would have been even greater next year, as a senior). Hopefully Caputo and staff are working the portal hard and intelligently.

Confirming some rumors. Maybe Trey will spend a year with his father. Can't blame him if he does that
@JonRothstein Virginia's Ryan Odom has hired former Syracuse head coach Adrian Autry as an assistant. Odom and Autry worked together at Virginia Tech under Seth Greenberg.

George Washington guard Jean Aranguren is returning to the Colonials, his agent Paolo Zamorano told ESPN. Averaged 8.2 points, 4.2 rebounds and 3.4 assists this season. Started 22 games for GW.

A good sign, although I'll still wait until the portal is closed before I actually celebrate. Jean announced he was returning to Hofstra last year, only to portal later.

Do we have Jean, Paolo Zamorano, or Jeff Borzello to thank for referring to the team as the Colonials?

I'm guessing Borzello
It looks like he corrected it since

Interesting and troubling if true (I assume a lot of misinformation floating around)
Hoop Herald@TheHoopHerald·33m
NIL context
No names here but a Mid Major Freshman who averaged about 15 PPG on a 500 team, has been offered 550,000 by a Mid Level A10 team Take that information as fact and a bar for the amount of money flying around

Garrett will be entering the portal
Offline
This one is a bit of a head scratcher for me. Coaching staff and the community has stuck by him through a lot with total support. I wonder if they just couldn't continue the same level of financial support given his questionable physical situation and the reality of assembling a team with our budget. Or does he believe he can make more elsewhere and still get the same support and playing time. Definitely a risk for the team that signs him.
Who knows. We certainly don't know the details .
Good luck to Garrett wherever his journey takes him.
Lots of new players next year

With the exception of Bevins, I was fairly certain that Garrett would be leaving, although admittedly I did not know if it would be because he had finally said "enough" and its time to move on with his life due to his health issues or that given his health issues, he could no longer play on an Atlantic Ten level team. Don't get me wrong...I very much admired Garrett and I thought that a healthy Garrett, if there ever was such a thing, was an outstanding player, but the fact was he was more of a liability during conference play, with his three point shooting numbers being pedestrian, at best, and his other weaknesses (especially defense) being quite glaring. I wish him nothing but the best, but in the end, I will miss the player that a healthy Garrett could have been, not the player he actually was.

Pretty much what LSF said. We'll all be rooting for Garrett at his next stop and hope that he can go through a season fully healthy. Having said that, it felt like he was part of the problem offensively with the lack of ball movement. As soon as he got a touch, a shot was going up whether it was a good one or not. Defensively, it was clear that his body couldn't hold up. Aranguren was the one player I really wanted back from this team so glad we got news that he is planning on sticking around.
