Luke to BC, ok. Imaginable, especially in today's big man market. Could be careful what you wish for. Could be a chance for him to shine. He was both great--a beast in some games in a modest stretch--and just Ok otherwise. We had a better center.
Vincent Chaudri to Wake? Good find and appreciate it being posted, but want more confirmation. Are we sure it's Wake Forest?
A 3-star recruit who redshirted on a team that needed forwards.
Either Wake (if it is) Forest is betting on a player that normally would transfer well below the A-10. Or CC and staff don't know what they had--odd because their eye for talent seems really good in the transfer market.
The issue is getting the talent to play together. And whatever pluses and minuses staff members, have, Caputo was a longtime major assistant coach at Miami, which is in the same league as Chaudri is said to be transferring to.
Never bothered to ask, since he didn't play, but assume Chaudri left because we weren't projecting him
as a significant contributor. Not because of his huge free market potential. The market is crazy, but even if Chaudri left because of money hopes, wouldn't going to Wake (if it is Forest) be an indicator that it is insane?
So, if Chaudri does indeed go to Wake (other than low-paid equivalent of walk on or relative of staff member) and winds up as a rotation player, we should reconsider ever redshirting anyone again. We probably should reconsider anyway, because while it was normal up until it worked with Christian Jones, there's no upside for us now. Anyone who benefits will probably leave.
In any case, if this report about Chaudri is true, make it make sense?

Vincent was not initially offered by WF (at least according to this board) which makes this signing even more curious. Did word make its way to Winston-Salem what a wonderful practice player he was? It's not like there was any college film to explore.
My sense of CC is that while he does not promise or guarantee playing time to his players, there is an implied understanding that the more experienced player transferring in is likely to see more minutes than an incoming freshman. This would seem particularly true of Marshall who only had a single season to play for CC. Perhaps he did not want to redshirt one freshman but not the other. Perhaps he thought that Castro, Hunger, Marshall, Benjamin and Garrett was more than enough frontcourt to work with, particularly with a roster that afforded an opportunity to play three guards at the same time. Perhaps Vincent wasn't ready? Or, that he was but would patiently wait his turn like others had done.
If there is a lesson to be learned here, it's that even someone without any college playing experience no longer needs to be patient. Anyone can and will leave at any time. I suppose "tie goes to the grad transfer" will remain in effect, but if there's any thought that the incoming freshman might be more helpful contributors to wins than that four-year college player, that freshman truly may not hang around if he doesn't play enough.

The lesson to me is that there is no longer a reason to waste a scholarship on a freshman unless you plan to play him as a freshman.

Correct for a lot of reasons. Mostly zero upside and a lot of downside - injuries to roster leaving you shorthanded, player development for someone else, etc..

Wouldn't that apply to redshirting, also?
Waste of a year they are being paid and not available for full work duties (which is really
the way it goes today).
Did we gain any extra time with Christian Jones? Hard to tell. It likely helped him develop, but he's in the portal and visited league opponent St. Louis. We kind of did it as a favor to Moss post-injury (as
explained here unless got it wrong). Not that we needed guards or Moss was a great player for us, but he's going to play against us next year.
And we got nothing out of Chaudri, except paying his presumably small salary and the usual other support
for players.
Guess we developed him so much that Wake Forest grabbed him--or the college basketball world
doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

A lot of our players transferring to bigger programs, Methinks we should have had a much better record last season. Did we make the most of the talent we had. No. Coaching!

Chaudhri going to Wake Forest is bizarre to me. Does anyone know anything about this tweet saying that Dylan James is flipping his commitment from GW to George Mason?
BREAKING: On3’s
@JamieShaw5
has logged an expert prediction for 6’9 PF Dylan James ✍️
Georgia ➡️ George Washington ➡️ George Mason
The #251 overall transfer and current GW commit averaged 4.5 PPG & 3.8 RPG in just 15 min/g this season, shooting 46% from the field.

If that happens, then the Revolutionary Rivalry would be real serious.

Per Chatgpt: "There hasn’t been any credible report of him backing out or changing that decision since the commitment news dropped, so all signs point to him joining GW."

He could be writing that as a play on words with Georgia, George and George.

What is the deadline date/contract signing deadline when we will know for sure who is coming?

Seemingly wrong. If that's the case, and a GW basketball insider/close monitor says James is coming, the poster should be more responsible.
Was oddly specific, which wouldn't be good unless hopefully, a play on words or lame joke.
But would be good to see him or his agent post something if they haven't.
Reneging on a deal, which is what this is, would be really bad form for anyone.
And GW is a great fit for a good big man who hasn't achieved his full potential.
Ask Rafael Castro this year or our bigs who made it into the NBA, including Wake
transfer Tyler Cavanaugh and possibly Castro, who's going to make big money in the league at some point or overseas now.
Good GW basketball guy Abe Rothstein reassures that the odd post that startled us is incorrect.

Not GW-related transfer news, but seeing the agent name caught me off guard lol. Sina is now an agent? Hopefully he hooks GW up with a good player at some point!
Adam Zagoria @AdamZagoria 1h
6-foot-9 F Nathan Mariano has committed to Seton Hall, per his agent @JarenSina and his agency @ffgbasketball A top Brazilian prospect, he averaged 2.4 ppg and 2.5 rpg in 11 games last in the G League with the Valley Suns, the Phoenix Suns affiliate

And this is a player going from the pro ranks to the college ranks (to make more money, one presumes). If anything makes any sense any more, I don´t see it.

CJ headed to Murray State. They have some money but this feels like a lateral/slight step down for him. I guess he wasn't a take at SLU given he visited there.

Fascinating. I’d love to know if they offered him the most money, or if he expected bigger/higher level offers and they just never came. Or, if starting/minutes was more important to him.
Would really love the behind the scenes on how and why he ended up there, but either way I wish him luck and he he can rediscover how to defend like he did as a freshman.
Edit: would also love to know how he feels about Chaudry going to the ACC, while he went to the OVC.
