TBT (The Basketball Tournament) being played live on ESPN

Some of you may be familiar with the TBT event that has taken place over the past few summers, it is actually being played again this year in Columbus, Ohio and is being shown live on ESPN. A team made up of mostly Illinois alums is playing against War Tampa, which consists of Auburn alums and Florida natives. I guess this will be the blueprint of how other sports can return.

On a similar note, I saw on youtube that they are now playing an AAU event called the TipOff Classic in Florida. There looks to be at least 8 teams in this event. They actually have fans in the stands, some without masks on and not a lot of social distancing. Did they allow high school activities/sports to start up again? Or is this something that they could only do in Florida, since there appears to be no sort of restrictions on anything in Florida?

Speaking of the TBT tournament, Mo Creek will be back playing with Sideline Cancer at 4 PM (EDT) tomorrow on ESPN.

Re: TBT (The Basketball Tournament) being played live on ESPN

Creek has played early on and they've made mention of his time at GW. Former Maryland star Diamond Stone is also on Sideline Cancer. Team Hines has former Wisconsin star Ethan Happ and former William & Mary star/local D.C.area product Marcus Thornton, some of you may also remember him starring at the Kenner League when he was in college.

Re: TBT (The Basketball Tournament) being played live on ESPN

Amazingly, Mo Creek’s team has pulled off two upsets to reach the QF (I believe Creek scored 13 in each game).

The reason I say it’s an upset is that I saw an article with Vegas odds before the tourney and Mo’s sideline cancer team was literally the longest shot in the whole tourney.

They play in the QF tomorrow against a team of Syracuse Sunni, Boeheim’s Army, that includes Malachi Richardson, Eric Devendorff and others.  sideline cancer will once again be a big underdog.

Re: TBT (The Basketball Tournament) being played live on ESPN

FQ(or anyone else), did you see the end of the final TBT game played earlier today? Red Scare(mostly Dayton alums) led the Illinois alums 80-61 and had a target score of 82, and they came THAT close to losing the game. The Illinois team cut it to 80-74, then 81-76 and had 2 possessions/clean looks to actually win it. Dayton appeared to miss 10 straight shots when they got to 80 points. They were able to pull it out after a player hit a free throw, and then won it after a missed shot/long rebound led to an uncontested, fast break dunk.

An interesting note on Dayton's team is they actually have 2 seniors from the 2019-2020 team playing in Ryan Mikesell and Trey Landers. I'm now pulling for Red Scare to win the TBT because Dayton never got a chance to play in the NCAA tournament. R.Mikesell and T.Landers never got a chance to make that deep NCAA tournament run. It will probably be a long time before Dayton or even the A10 produces a dominant, Final 4 contender with an All-World player again. Red Scare should bring in Obi Toppin as a ringer for the semifinal and/or final!! HA!

FQ is right about Sideline Cancer being a big underdog again tomorrow, Boeheim's Army is always one of the favorites in this tournament since they are made up of a lot of Boeheim's former star players.

I haven’t watched a single minute of it.  I just happened to see the odds before the tourney and then yesterday I looked at results.

It is interesting that to cut down on boring end games and fouling, the rule they use is that with something like 5 minutes left, a target score is set of I think 7 points more than the leading team has.  That means no fouling or slowing it down to milk the clock, and I guess it can lead to a big comeback like the one you described.

HA! I thought you were watching. They mentioned that you can actually play fanduel with the TBT players too. The Elam ending takes effect at the 4 minute mark of the 4th quarter and the target score is 8

Re: TBT (The Basketball Tournament) being played live on ESPN

I believe Creek had 22 points and 8 rebounds for Sideline Cancer, they interviewed him after the game. The Syracuse team was actually playing Boeheim's 2-3 zone for the entire game, it was funny seeing his former players(the guy coaching them played for Boeheim too) using the defensive principals that Boeheim drilled into all of them years ago.

Sideline Cancer plays Overseas Elite tonight at 6PM on ESPN in a semifinal, Former NBA All-Star Joe Johnson is playing for Overseas Elite. Dayton's team(Red Scare) will play Marquette's team in the first semifinal at 4.

Re: TBT (The Basketball Tournament) being played live on ESPN

Mo Creek just hit the game winning 3 to beat Overseas Elite 67-65!! It was reminiscent of the shot he hit to beat Maryland at the MCI-Verizon-Capital Arena(this shot was at the opposite basket) several years ago. They'll play Marquette's alums for the championship on Tuesday.

Pretty exciting watching last few minutes with my boys. We were reminiscing about the shot against MD and I had just sent a video of it to a buddy when Mo did it again!

Re: TBT (The Basketball Tournament) being played live on ESPN

Thomas, I watched the first half yesterday and then planned on watching the second half during lunch today.  This morning, I saw that you added a post to the thread but stopped myself from reading it, which i am obviously very glad I did.  Mo also had two other big second half 3's in addition to the game winner, and he kept a crucial loose ball alive which led to a critical bucket down the stretch for one of his teammates (Artis, I think).  Mo will take home $75,000 with a win on Tuesday, or nothing with a loss.  Overseas Elite,. the team that Mo just eliminated, is a 4 time champion of this event (2015-2018).  Incredible finish.

Re: TBT (The Basketball Tournament) being played live on ESPN

Thomas and Gwmayhem, I watched the game live and I found it very exciting. Seeing Mr. Creek make so many big shots, including the gam winner made me proud of GW and so happy for Mo. I feel he still is a shining star.  I'm very much looking forward to the game tomorrow night.  For anyone interested, the game should be on ESPN at 7:00 PM.  I think the more of us that watch and root on team Sideline Cancer and Mr. Mo Creek, the more likely the good vibes will make their way all the way to the team! I'd love to see Mo make some more huge shots and another game winner!!!

Re: TBT (The Basketball Tournament) being played live on ESPN

The only way I'd be interested in watching guys in their 30s who used to play college hoops is:
1. Severe Boredom
2. GW signed up a team

Hoping for the latter, and against the former, when I am super bored, I open the site to see 1 man using 11 names to have convos with each other in the dead of summer

Re: TBT (The Basketball Tournament) being played live on ESPN

GWmayhem and 22ndandF,  it would be a big deal for Mo Creek and GW(to a lesser extent) if Sideline Cancer won the TBT championship tonight. GW may not have a team in this, but you'll have a former GW great starring for the champion. Creek was the leading scorer for the last GW team to make the NCAA tournament, and you could say that Creek's impact on the 2014 team played a big role in changing the losing culture of the program.

The game is at 7 tonight on ESPN, as 22nd and F wrote

Agreed Thomas.  There have been several GW shout-outs (though more mentions of Indiana and how Mo could not finish a season healthy there).  Am guessing approx. 400,000 viewers for tonight's final, not a huge number but decent exposure nevertheless for Mo (and hopefully, for GW).

Thomas, I feel exactly the same way and am really looking forward to watching Creek play tonight.  I thought the last game was really good and believe the finale will be ever better.  Plus, there's a lot of money on the line. I'd love to see Mo take home the MVP and a big check!  And, great point about Creek's impact on the 2014 team.  I just think he's a winner in every respect and am so happy for him.

Re: TBT (The Basketball Tournament) being played live on ESPN

The TBT has helped fill a basketball void that many of us have as a result of current circumstances.
Having Mo Creek and team get to the finals has made it even better. Mo, Armwood, Kopriva, Garino, Cavanaugh and so many others were not only great players but great ambassador's to our school and team. Hoping Mo and company get the win tonight. After tonight's final, we come back to reality and debate if we end up in 10th or 11th of the A-10 standings in whatever year we start back up. Life could be worse. You could be a former serial poster using 15 different monikers who lives in his parents basement!

Gwmayhem, it would be awesome to have almost a half-million viewers tonight!
