Does Kenpom take into account the coaching change of style or does it simply use the team and returning players level from last year?

KenPom uses a bit of both. Generally, it takes around half a season before the overall ranking reflects performance for a current season, as a great weight is put on last season performance. There are slight boosts as you'd expect for roster continuity (which we more or less have minus DJ and Terry), as well as changes based on past coaching track record if there is a coaching change.
This is especially evident if you look at our pace rating, which is around 150 spots lower than where we finished last year. I'd imagine that many are predicting we play a similar style to how JC coached Siena last year on offense, which is to use much of the shot clock to limit possessions for the opposition and make up some differences in talent that might exist against another team (that is not to say our team isn't talented, but many of the guys on this team weren't recruited to play JC's system). JC has never had a history of playing very fast despite his "mayhem" label, as that style applies more on defense where he tries to limit the opposition possession length.

Given the perception of what an overly aggressive defense might look like (lots of forced turnovers followed by easy transition buckets), the JC pace statistics are fascinating. Last year Siena played at a slower pace than all but one of the 353 Division 1 teams. Here is what the tempo rankings looked like in his 5 years at MSM: 325th, 245th, 145th, 276th and 39th. Plenty of successful programs play at a very slow pace and the reverse is true as well meaning there is no real correlation between wins and losses and pace. (See: Defending national champions) It is interesting that JC has had his teams play very slowly during 4 of his 6 seasons as a head coach, about middle-of-the-road during another, and extremely fast during one of his six seasons as a head coach. The recent trend is for his teams to play deliberately on the offensive end.
It seems odd to try to limit opposition possession length, slow things down once you have the ball, and then take a lot of 3's presumably late in the shot clock. Not saying it can't or won't work, just strikes me as a curious combination.
