Been hearing from a very trustworthy source that certain members our division 1 basketball team are frequenting the club more often than the court. Maybe if our fellas were winning, they would deserve a night out. I didn't realize they had a free throw line at the club, that must be where they're going to practice.

At what point do we bring in a defensive specialist. The fellas need to learn how to get in a stance. Everyone wants blocks not hard nose defense. Thought Caputo was a defensive guy.....

Not sure I'd go so far to say that Caputo has lost the team, but some guys definitely seem to have given up. I think that's pretty clear based on the number of bad passes we had in this game, even ones that didn't result in TOs.

If we could have shot an average percent from 3 it would be a totally different game. Not saying it would've been very close, but would have at least been competitive. The defensive gameplan was clear and I think they actually did a decent job (for what our capabilities are). Not sure what was up with Bishop but probably his worst game all season. Horrific shooting, bad turnovers, you name it.

On a happier note, it was nice to see Buchanan back in action. Looked very good even though he's still coming back from injury. I'm also very optimistic about Jacoi. The talent is definitely there, just needs some fine tuning.

On a note so happy note, if we lose out the rest of the season we'll end the year on a 15 game losing streak which may be the longest in GW history (even a worse streak than the 1-27 season)

I always find it funny when people just make an account and start posting when the team is doing bad. Do you even like the team or are you just secretly hoping they lose so you can get angry about it?

How about you stop hiding behind a fake name and come say that to my face at the next game. I'll be in section 205.

Why do you assume it’s a fake name?

Who is the source? The voices in your head don’t count.

You should have no problems finding him as he will probably be the only person in section 205.

More GWMBB record breaking history.

This is now the third losing streak of five games or more in the Smith Center.

The others were the 1-27 season and 1980-81.  Among these streaks, this is the only one where every loss was by 8 points or greater.

And to beat a dead horse, even with those losing seasons, I felt a connection with the team and the players' connection with the university. We were in this together in mind and spirit.

With NIL and the transfer portal, I'm not feeling that sentiment any longer.  It's now a professional minor league where players come and go--but at least in the minors the players were assigned, and you felt an interest in truly following their careers and seeing an occasional star/top draft pick come through your city--and hoping they made your big-league club.  While nice for a player, I feel little satisfaction in seeing one of our former players succeed at another school.  I'm also happy for those of you who simply enjoy watching basketball without any emotional attachments to any particular team.  I'm just not one of you and have so many other competing priorities in my life.  I've made multi-year commitments to the university, but I'm close to done.

Thanks for posting presser, 0509. CC's remarks would have felt a lot better if they were 6-9 in conference instead of 3-12. I hope next season I'll be proven wrong, but this things feels a whole farther away from greatness than I think Caputo wants to say.

The Loyola example is an interesting one, however. They had a similar scoring margin in their last place finish last year, and now they're near the top of the league with 5 of their 6 leading scorers as upperclassmen. Last year's scoring margin in conference was -8.5 for the Ramblers (GW is currently -8.8), and they've pulled off a 12 point swing at 4.9 this season. That's a big leap.

Tough matchup since we do not have a real answer for Cohen or Cross.  Would have liked to see us go 4 points/wings at times.  We weren't going to outmuscle or outrebound these guys, so why not try to gain an advantage with quickness?

Nevertheless, this can be considered a nitpick in comparison to what's really going on with this team.  This team needs to hit the weight room hard in the off-season.  Think about how many times a GW player has ripped the ball out of an opponent's hands this season and how many times the ball has been ripped out of a GW player's hands.  It's not close.

Opposing coaches must be telling their teams that GW lacks confidence, will, intestinal fortitude, call it what you will.  Stand up to them and claim your victory.  This is much more than the limitations of our big men.  It's about playing with fire and urgency.  You would hope that breaking a long losing streak would be motivation enough but apparently, more is needed.

Credit that the team did play some 3-2 zone which was effective at times (except when Cross received a pass in the high post in which case it was almost automatically two points for UMASS).  But, they TRIED something new.  As CC repeatedly pointed out, this team has trouble defending most anyone.  Yes, playing some zone is warranted.  Against man, GW continues to give up wide open three point shots.  I don't care where UMASS ranked statistically in three point shooting; you just can't overplay, double team, lose guys against screens, and expect wide open three point shooters to miss at a healthy rate.  This happens every game.  And aside from playing some zone, I've seen nothing which resembles even an attempt at correcting this.

10 assists, 13 turnovers.  The other side had 18 assists and 14 turnovers with a bunch of those TO's coming well after the outcome was decided.

I am all in for Jacoi but what may have epitomized GW's season was a 5 on 4 break as a UMASS player fell down at the other end, resulting in a missed three point attempt by Jacoi.  Open shot?  Yes.  But, not what you want playing with an extra man.

I do feel for this team, but perhaps not as much as I could.  What's slowing me down is that this team has to stop taking the court with such a lack of confidence that you could pretty much guess how things are going to go from the opening tip.  Time to end the pity party.  Play hard and play smart.  If you lose playing hard and playing smart, I suspect most fans will be OK with this.  Unfortunately over the past 11 games, this hasn't happened nearly enough.

If every possession was important to this team we wouldn’t be watching JB or Max predictably upchuck the ball as they try to get their points!!! Tough to watch between the leg dribbles on the midcourt stripe while being double teamed or the one handed pass onto G street over and over. Has anyone taught the effing 2 handed chest pass to these guys?? Obviously not.

I place the chemistry problem squarely on JB and CC.  On offense it’s very tough to play team ball when one or two guys bounce the ball for 15 seconds going nowhere.  On D are we connected by a string? No because one guy blows his assignment and a terrible chain reaction leading to wide open opportunities takes place.

I love the game of basketball.  It’s a game of fundamentals.  We have some decent shooters but lack ballhandlers, rebounders, passers, defenders, and size.

I’m rooting for this team to get the W.  It would mean a lot to everyone in boosting spirits and confidence. Never too late to start a winning streak.

Cmon Revs Let’s Go!!!

This may be a "chicken/egg dichotmy". Are one or two guys bouncing the ball for 15 seconds because guys off ball are not moving, or are guys off ball not moving because one or two guys are bouncing the ball for 15 seconds? Either way, it makes for ineffective basketball and difficult viewing.
GW did move the ball around a bit more yesterday because there were flashes of off ball movement, and it seemed to work. The problem is that there is still not enough of it, and late February is a bit deep in to the season to start doing things most team debut at Midnight Madness. And if the offense is going to be a zero pass dribbling game, it sure would help if the guy with the ball would get to the screen quickly and move off it tightly.
But what do I know? I just watch the same games opposing coaches scout off of.
