Some big questions remain.[/b] Where were Reynolds, Diala, and Calisto tonight and will they be available this weekend? They did not appear to be on the bench (although I can’t say for certain they weren’t). Will Sierra-Vargas continue to get big minutes going forward? In my mind she deserves some minutes until her performance dictates otherwise. The biggest question still, is whether the team is getting better. Hopefully more are data points are provided in the FIU Christmas Classic in Miami, FL. this weekend.

Next up is Miami of Ohio, in the FIU Christmas Classic, and another important test for GW.

Reynolds was not at Bender, apparently out sick. Calisto was on the bench in sweats wearing a boot on one foot. Diala was there but never took her warmup off. On the good news front, Parnell was not wearing the brace she has been sporting all season.

I have no problems scheduling a home and home with Army. Iconic institution with Bobby Knight and Coach K in their pedigree. The trip to West Point alone is a worthy destination for the players to absorb and appreciate. College is about learning. Attend an Army-Navy football game or visit one of the academy campuses and it's an experience and memory that lasts a lifetime. I've gotten over the return of ROTC to campus after we kicked them out during my student years. Good on GW and Caputo for this scheduling.

Can't speak to NET rankings, but per Ken Pom, Columbia, at 8-0, is ranked at 137, which is worse than GW at 129.   There are no other teams with 0 or 1 loss that is ranked lower than GW.    GW's OOC SOC is an embarassing 358 of 364.   Of the teams with a worse OOC SOC is Columbia (362) and power 5 teams, DePaul (dead last at 364), Missouri at 361, Utah at  363 and Ge**getown (at 359).   Despite the worse SOC, Depaul at 7-0 is ranked 95, Missouri is 61 is ranked 61, Utah at 61- is ranked 60 and Ge**getown at 7-1 is 87.

Bottom line, these rankings are a joke. Since we’re not in line for an at-large berth in the tourney, not gonna worry about it this year. Play the games on the schedule, win as many as you can, enjoy or complain about the season.  Start with a win tonight in Bender.

Does anyone know if there's a block of tickets for the AU game available through the GW ticket office? If I remember correctly, in the past there have been tickets behind the visitor's bench that could be purchased through the GW box office.

Needs to be purchased through AU ticket office. Section 116 behind visitor's bench is the recommended section.

Duquesne is still winless on the year after losing at home to Milwaukee. Max Edwards finishes with 3 points on 1-4 shooting.

Duquesne is playing the type of OOC schedule that a lot of people on here want us to play. It will be interesting to see if they are more or less "prepared" to battle in conference than we are.

I actually watched the last 30 minutes or so of the game and Max did not play.   Wonder if he got injured during the game or if he is already in the doghouse.

He started but only played 7 minutes

xAC: Have the impression that chemistry will not be an issue for the women’s team this year. Lot of new elements to blend together, on the court and on the coaching staff, but there’s also a greater depth of talent on both. Looks like a make or break year for a couple of GW teams with Michael Lipitz in as the new AD. WBB is probably one of those. I’m expecting a safely passing grade when all is said and done.

I have had the opportunity to interact with Cooper a few times and really like his ability to communicate about the men's program and the individual players. This new position managing the men's and women's programs is made to order for Cooper.

Congrats!

Echo AT Hiker’s sentiments. Found Cooper to be very engaging and openly forthcoming. Both programs should benefit from his elevation to a position he will create and develop.

My preference would be for an existing AD at a school similarly situated or one seeing GW as a step up the career ladder. Agree on a preference, but not insistence, on a basketball background of some sort. Indifferent to gender. Leery of anyone coming down from P5 unless also steeped in mid-major experience.

Don’t get the objection to running it back. Highlighted by Johnson and Buchanan Jr returning, Caputo is bringing back the highly regarded freshman class including Jones despite many here expecting some to jump ship. Shouldn’t lose sight of the fact that our struggles in conference play after the first 4 games also coincided in part with injuries to Darren and Garrett, both keeping them entirely out of the lineup or significantly compromising their abilities to contribute on the court. In an era where the transfer portal lures many, GW avoided a large exodus. Given all the ragging here on Max’s play and frustration with his turnovers and defensive indifference, don’t see his transfer as undermining the program’s progress. I, for one, was thrilled Buchanan announced his return right after Max posted his departure and was glad to see the school trumpet the return of its core.

Well, let’s start with the fact that “running it back” is a term almost universally used in the aftermath of a successful season, in which a tea, won a championship, or outperformed or generally had a positive experience.  That help?

Yeah, that would help if it were an accurate explanation of how the phrase is “almost universally used.”  But you seem to enjoy your empty glass so no reason to look on the bright side of all the players returning with 3 years of eligibility remaining.

Glad to see you're posting a bit more frequently Poog.  I would like your opinion as to whether you feel the swimming and diving coach would be moving on if not for this latest snafu.  My understanding was that ten team members have entered the transfer portal although some may be returning to GW now that they know their pool will not be converted to a basketball practice facility.

While there has been some criticism regarding faulty due diligence, as in how could the school not know what this was really going to cost before essentially pissing off its most successful sports team, the same perhaps could be said regarding whether making such a move in the first place would inevitably result in a team revolt.  Was there another way to research this that could have ended in all teams feeling satisfied?

I have been one to defend TV but I am left wondering if she could have navigated this a bit better?

It was only a matter of time before Brian Thomas would be moving on from GW. Dominating A10 swimming the way he has as coach for both the men and women leaves little else to accomplish here at GW. Much like his predecessor James Winchester who left to head TCU’s program, Brian has established his bona fides to take on a bigger program with greater resources. Can’t say whether the practice facility accelerated his departure but it certainly wasn’t an inducement to stay. With all due respect to his swimmers, most GW teams (baseball, water polo, gymnastics, golf, the Vern inhabitants) practice and play away from Foggy Bottom. Their disruptions and inconveniences are no less than what the swimmers articulated in their petition complaining about their proposed dislocation.

Successful or not, the basketball teams are the marquee components of GW athletics. The lack of a dedicated practice facility has long been identified as an albatross limiting the teams’ success and ability to compete with conference opponents. The snafu about the Smith
