NCAA rule allowing multiple transfers comes out in December and Max Edward's game suddenly plummets, his effort drops to 50%,  we the go on major losing streak. Coincidence? I think not. This will be a new challenge for mid majors in the NIL/tranfer era. Essentially every player is on a one year contract. Some players will quit on the team once they have decided to transfer

Seems the opposite would be true. Find out in December I can transfer without further penalty. Decide then and there I’m interested in greener pastures. Play my ass off to impress prospective school alternatives. Whatever may have affected the perceived drop off in Max’s play, it may well have been nothing more than coincidental with the change in the NCAA transfer policy. Not like the player gets cut or traded by the school or that institution permission is required to transfer. Max gave us 2 good years and has decided to play elsewhere. Ciao and good luck Max.

Conference decided right away to revert to their old 14 team bracket. GW could actually avoid playing on Wednesday if they beat Loyola and Dayton loses at URI.

Midwestern Conference. Only Buffalo in East. Good academic fit too. It may be a hockey move.

There’s no hockey in the MAC. UMass is in a terrific hockey situation, the very deep and respected Hockey East. They’re not going to be uprooting their hockey program from its current situation. Following the football money for schools like UMass is a fool’s journey. Maryland in the Big Ten fills the coffers but empties the hearts. Not sure the MAC won’t prove to be the same for Amherst.

Wow! Nudge people into the portal? Is there a cancer among them? Someone irretrievably beyond further development? Rising 4.0 GPA senior Keegan Harvey who introduced Carl Elliott at the HOF Induction doesn’t fit on this team because of his limited playing time? Zam and Benny can’t contribute more with another 3 years of coaching and development? Max disillusion people because his sophomore year wasn’t as consistently excellent as his 1st year? Maybe run off Darren and Garrett because they got hurt and left the team short-handed? 10 in a row sucks but I fail to see the quit or indifference on the court that festers in the stands. Frontcourt needs reinforcements but the coaching staff knows that better than we do. Just don’t see where addition by subtraction is the answer.

All games in the tournament are played at Henrico outside Richmond. Women have 2 games left at the Smith Center this year. Saturday against UMass and March 2 against Loyola. Reward for winning is confidence, momentum and seeding on the opening Wednesday.

Several GW memories and one personal one. First GW connection for me was seeing Bob Tallent in the Faces in the Crowd section of SI in the spring before I entered GW in the fall of 1969. Remember articles about Coach Tallent discussing Mike Zagardo studying on the road and, of course, the big article about incoming Dapper Dan Classic participant and recruit Max Blank from Odessa. I also could be seen in the stands in one of those big two page picture spreads in the front of the magazine of Anna Montanana passing the ball in a 1st round NCAA game won by GW at North Carolina against Mississippi. Really was a magazine that you read for the articles though the photography was outstanding as well.

87.5% from the line. Not sure how many of these games GW can win missing 3 FT’s…out of 24. Hope Caputo addresses this shortcoming by having his team out shooting FT’s in the snow under the lights. Not enough to get to the line. Should be shooting 100%, if not higher. Well, at least they won.

not the most important thing by any means but does anyone else think the PA sound hasn't been working this year? There was a substitute announcer yesterday and it was so impossible to hear him that Davidson didn't even realize they were being introduced during the pre-game intros. The sound has been noticeably muffled all year but since yesterday's announcer wasn't very boisterous you couldn't hear anything he was saying.

Not defending the PA system but the introduction of opposing players is intentionally overridden by the playing of music which makes it impossible to hear. Find it bush league. Don’t know if Davidson didn’t know or decided why bother. One thing for students to show disdain for the opposition in pre-game introductions, quite another to be an officially sanctioned policy. Count me as no fan, with or without a decent PA system.

Glad they changed (or hopefully just corrected) it from pre-submitted questions only to a Q and A box.
Though not sure screening questions in any manner from your most ardent supporters is a great
idea, as opposed to actual Q and A.

I can see both sides. I too hope this is not a North Korea-esque press briefing, but given we’re still a week out, if they’re getting a bunch of the same questions, maybe they can tweak the presentation to reflect the info people want to know.

Advantage of Q&A box is to present actual question for a response and avoiding extraneous speechifying pre-question. Given nature of issue, have to believe moderators are not auditioning to play for Schoonmaker’s  softball team but looking to explain current state of NIL’s in general, possible impact of new school takeover supposedly under consideration by NCAA and situation specifically at GW.

Rewatching game it seemed that Fordham had a lot of fans at game. Also seems like that for an A10 opener our students were missing. Pretty sad.

Don’t remember GW ever drawing a strong student crowd when the students aren’t in town during semester break. That’s at least a 50+ year tradition going back to semester break games at the previously named Ft. Myer when we were in school. Can’t speak to attendance at prior venues when GW clearly was more of their reputation as a commuter school.

I’m sorry. Did I miss the 6 straight games we lost at the beginning of the conference season? All the wailing about the OOC schedule and the observed issues of concern about the team’s play certainly have many in a tizzie. Maybe wait to see how they play against the A10 opposition before going into the traditional GW fan base tear down of the players, coaches, athletic department and anything else GW. Haven’t seen much reason to criticize what Caputo has done in 1 1/2 years at  GW. Quite the opposite.

And now the NCAA joins in a petition to the court to extend the TRO to an injunction through the end of the year. So much for NCAA governance of the mess that is college athletics

I'll beat the long dead horse I've been beating for several decades now - The lack of any meaningful, regular coverage in the local media, primarily TV, radio, and newspapers, is a major reason for poor attendance.   Someone always points out that "nobody reads the papers or watches TV anymore" by way of debunking this argument.    I remain convinced that many sports fans in the DMV (and, yes, even some alums) may not be aware that GW has a basketball team.   After all, it's never mentioned in local media, and wouldn't it be if they had a team ?   It is the biggest University in the city, isn't it ?  The recent POST piece on Garrett Johnson was terrific, but it was an outlier that only tended to prove my point.   The emphasis of the story was on a local kid from Episcopal High with a great human interest back story.   I suppose they did mention that he played for GW now..........I think.

Not just us. George Mason led Maryland’s women for much of the game before ultimately falling. Fairly big article the next day that was so Terp-centric that one had to know that Mason was a local school not to assume they were located in the Midwest or out West. Valiant near major upset should have been a bigger story about the rise of Mason WBB. Nope. Area has 2 schools - Maryland and Georgetown - plus presumably Howard this weekend for football acccording to the Post. Sucks.

I absolutely agree that this is a marketing problem. We have an incredible product - high level competitive live sports in a great stadium for $10/cheap ticket.

This is the same price point as American. $15 cheaper than Howard. $10 cheaper than Georgetown. $10 less than UMD. And like $8 less than going to see a movie.

Especially now that we are having a touch of success - GW is some of the best bang-for-your-buck entertainment in the entire city. I tell people about the price point all the time and among people with even the mildest interest in sports, the response is universally - wow, I didn’t know that, I should check that out.

Out of curiosity, how many of those I didn’t know actually check it out?

John Thompson and his Georgetown powerhouse teams didn’t seem to have problems in their Big East games after perennially playing OOC cupcake opponents save for typically 1 game against a big-time opponent. GW may not beat Fordham or anyone else on their A10 schedule but it won’t be because of complacency or their schedule.
