Thanks for the news FC. Got us a Nya back.

@TaliaGoodmanWBB·2h NEWS: George Washington’s Sara Lewis has withdrawn her name from the transfer portal, sources told @On3sports. The 6-1 sophomore averaged 7 ppg and 5.5 rpg. TRACKER: https://on3.com/her/news/on3-2024-2025-womens-basketball-transfer-portal-tracker/…
Great news! Had a hint earlier when the team posted pictures advertising to come see next year’s action and one of the pictures was Sara. Congrats to Sara and Coach G.

A decent number of kids (more than 7) visiting GW over the next few days thru the weekend. Should have some answers soon.
Is that HM power forward you mentioned earlier off now or still likely?
Not off but some problems have arisen with paperwork/admissions. I am told they are surmountable but not done yet.
I had really hoped that with Granberg and Lipitz rowing in the same direction that some of these typical GW admissions complications wouldn’t continue to block otherwise qualified students. When a team can’t enroll a 3 year graduate of Duke without turning itself into a pretzel to satisfy the admissions process, then something is dysfunctional at the university that holds itself in much higher academic regard than the rest of the world. Don’t know what the particulars are in this instance but I’ve heard enough horror stories over the years to lean toward thinking this is just another self-inflicted impediment beyond our tuition cost to competing with our conference peers.

Great interview with VCU's AD Ed McLaughlin discussing the future of revenue sharing and other items of interest including building plans at VCU. Well worth the listen (unless I screwed up the link)

I’m going to post something that is behind a paywall, so I’m going to give the site a big plug. There’s a Wordpress site I found not long ago called StaringAtTheFloorboards.Wordpress.com.
It’s $10 a year for a subscription and if you want to better understand matchups, gamble, or play college basketball DFS, it’s easily worth that small subscription fee.
Anyway, here’s his preview (which I think is great, though perhaps not giving enough thought to how much we’ll miss Hansen if he doesn’t play).
George Washington will reportedly have everyone available except possibly Hansen per a reliable source, and Boise State should have everyone of consequence in Vegas as well. The Revs work heavily at the rim offensively (98th percentile rim rate per Synergy) through Castro, and shoot the ball sideways from the perimeter, pairing a 97th percentile c&s rate with a 19th percentile efficiency rating. Boise typically islands the post to stay true on the perimeter, but GW is a team you have to help against in the paint, so we’ll see what Rice does. Boise has the same jump shooting issues GW has (95th percentile c&s rate with an even worse efficiency rating), but the Revs are extremely aggressive in their ball screen coverage and post denial, with a ton of high hedging, trapping, and blitzing, something that the Broncos saw a lot of in the MWC, but had very mixed results against (Boise doesn’t really run a ton of PNR, and prefer to post up their big wings, but how those wings shoot on the perimeter against the numbers advantage this Revs defensive structure gives you with two to the ball will likely decide the game). 8.5 seems too high and lean Revs
Understand Hansen is on a long ago planned family vacation out of the N. A. Continent

Hope this groundswell clamor from the kiddie press corps following GW and college basketball lands on receptive ears in Evanston and Foggy Bottom. Now to get Dairy Queen to sponsor the evening and Meghan McKeown to provide guest commentary with our own ThunderDunk PBP guy.

Sara Lewis has entered the portal, citing "coaching change".
I would have thought players would wait to see who the successor is, but apparently not.
Bummer. As I said to friends yesterday at the game as the second half descended into acceptance, “Can’t even know how to look forward to next year. No idea who will be back.” Already started on the women’s side. Wonder if they’ll still be called the Revolutionaries with all the changes coming with a new coach. Well, maybe that aspect wouldn’t be so bad.

McCombs needs to start winning some games, especially when they are at home. Finding small positives each game in year 4 isn't where GW WBB should be as a program. Not looking forward to getting demolished again by Mason and their whiny coach.
do we miss Rizzotti yet? At least in her first four years you got meaningful postseason basketball and a pair of championships
Did you say that? With holdover Tsipis players, GW tied for 1st and lost 1st round games in the A-10 and WNIT tourneys in year 1 and finished 5th in the conference but won the A-10 tourney and then lost badly to Ohio State in the 1st round of the NCAA’s in Rizzotti’s year 2. In year 3 GW finished 8th and lost 1st game in A-10 tourney and improved to finishing 7th and losing their 1st tourney game again in year 4. In her final year 5, GW finished 10th and went 1-1 in the A-10 tourney. So no, we don’t miss Rizzotti yet nor the way she trashed the program on her way out. Props to Mayowa, Faith, and Essence for sticking around despite the failures of the program during Rizzotti’s tenure.

[b wrote:Some big questions remain. Where were Reynolds, Diala, and Calisto tonight and will they be available this weekend? They did not appear to be on the bench (although I can’t say for certain they weren’t). Will Sierra-Vargas continue to get big minutes going forward? In my mind she deserves some minutes until her performance dictates otherwise. The biggest question still, is whether the team is getting better. Hopefully more are data points are provided in the FIU Christmas Classic in Miami, FL. this weekend.
Next up is Miami of Ohio, in the FIU Christmas Classic, and another important test for GW.
Reynolds was not at Bender, apparently out sick. Calisto was on the bench in sweats wearing a boot on one foot. Diala was there but never took her warmup off. On the good news front, Parnell was not wearing the brace she has been sporting all season.

I have no problems scheduling a home and home with Army. Iconic institution with Bobby Knight and Coach K in their pedigree. The trip to West Point alone is a worthy destination for the players to absorb and appreciate. College is about learning. Attend an Army-Navy football game or visit one of the academy campuses and it's an experience and memory that lasts a lifetime. I've gotten over the return of ROTC to campus after we kicked them out during my student years. Good on GW and Caputo for this scheduling.

Can't speak to NET rankings, but per Ken Pom, Columbia, at 8-0, is ranked at 137, which is worse than GW at 129. There are no other teams with 0 or 1 loss that is ranked lower than GW. GW's OOC SOC is an embarassing 358 of 364. Of the teams with a worse OOC SOC is Columbia (362) and power 5 teams, DePaul (dead last at 364), Missouri at 361, Utah at 363 and Ge**getown (at 359). Despite the worse SOC, Depaul at 7-0 is ranked 95, Missouri is 61 is ranked 61, Utah at 61- is ranked 60 and Ge**getown at 7-1 is 87.
Bottom line, these rankings are a joke. Since we’re not in line for an at-large berth in the tourney, not gonna worry about it this year. Play the games on the schedule, win as many as you can, enjoy or complain about the season. Start with a win tonight in Bender.

Does anyone know if there's a block of tickets for the AU game available through the GW ticket office? If I remember correctly, in the past there have been tickets behind the visitor's bench that could be purchased through the GW box office.
Needs to be purchased through AU ticket office. Section 116 behind visitor's bench is the recommended section.
