Grefe was a 6’2” forward! We had a pretty good shooter in Dick Ellis. With Babe McCarthy as coach, and an all-white team, we were very much a Southern Conference team . This was my freshman year, and Garland Pinkston was on our freshman team.

Same as it ever was…….

I don't think he will be in the hot seat at all this year, despite his obvious deficiencies as a game coach. Maybe not next year, either, unless Vogel got to the stage where she felt it would be either him or her. Coach should take two hours to sit and watch how a basketball juggernaut, Yeshiva, runs their offense and team. Not kidding.

Our offense was as well organized as the pre-game "tailgate" and logistics from there to the game. I rushed out of the gathering 30 minutes before the game started, and was still in the Will Call line (with dozens of other GW fans) when the game started. Joe picked up two fouls before most of us even entered the arena. Ask LSF about his experience of the entire situation.
An embarrassing performance, and travel isn't an excuse for having a poor game plan and no set offense to take advantage of a perceived advantage in athleticism. Coach might be a great guy, talk a good game, and recruit better than the last guy, but, as a game coach he brought less than zero last night, beyond some "emotion".

Wisconsin Colonial and I will likewise be there. See you at the reception. I will be the one kvetching about something.
And I will be the old white guy with the grey hair (and disinterested wife).

I think Jarvis deserves extra credit, because he wasn't drafting behind a successful predecessor. He really turned around a bad situation.

Of the players that I saw ('66-'71), I would say:
Bob Tallent
Ronnie Nunn (edges out Mike Tallent - eye test, style points)
Walter Szczerbiak
Mike Battle
Bill Knorr
Pat would knock out both Ronnie and Mike. Would ask opinions on whether Clyde Burwell or Keith Morris would knock any of the above off the list. Although he can't touch this list, my favorite player for a long time was Joe Lalli.

I'll take what I can get, and, while I wish we were playing better teams, I rarely get to games, and haven't seen them win in a long time. I'm starving out here, and following this team through the MoJo and JC years from 2,700 miles away has been painful.

We play in the tournament in Naples on the 11/22, 23 and 24. The other game in CA is San Diego. We really wanted to play South Carolina at home but they pushed the game back again. Notre Dame backed out of a game at the Smith Center after they saw who transferred into GW.
I saw us win at San Diego and lose (jobbed by the refs) at Pepperdine in late 1992. With our incoming talent, and two of our leading performers from last year, I'm looking for a sweep this time around.

It might also be fun for us older guys to look back at the Carl Slone, Wayne Dobbs, and Babe McCarthy years. And the five coaches before them were a combined 463-297.

Thanks for the advice, Gwmayhem and Joel Joseph. I'll check with the GW ticket office, and make sure I sit behind our bench. Would look forward to connecting with anyone else attending who shares our disease, so we can commiserate and share memories of better times.

I am a relatively new member of this group, but was part of the previous one, until it turned out to be not worth my time and energy. For some reason I was not aware of this newer one until very recently. Still willing to contribute where I can, but mostly get information and insights from the rest of you. Happy to provide any information you need, Barry.
