I was at the Capital Classic High School All-Sarr Game on Saturday.
Jalen was a member of the DMV All Star Team, but was in a foot boot, so he didn't play.

My starting point is that I consider myself to be an incredibly loyal person. Three weeks after starting my first real job out of college, I was offered what then would be considered my dream job. It involved taking a pay cut but that didn't matter to me. What mattered was the perception of unprofessionalism I would have faced, even if only self-imposed, by leaving a job just three weeks after I had started. My firm had turned away other candidates to hire me. They had begun to invest time in training me while simultaneously handing me real responsibility right out of the gate. I would have had a tough time living with myself had I accepted my dream job under these circumstances.
Fast forward to today and loyalty still matters to some. Dusty May was having a successful season coaching Michigan basketball when his dream job became available at Indiana. May had grown up around the Hoosier program and anyone who knew him felt that Indiana was the only job which May would leave Michigan for after just a single season. Nevertheless, May cited that he was just getting started at Ann Arbor and took himself out of the running to replace Mike Woodson. (I understand that cynics will point out that May used his leverage to earn a nice raise for himself but the fact is that after Michigan's swift turnaround under May, he was going to receive that raise whether Indiana had an opening or not.)

The larger point though is that this program is at a stage where it can't be turning down an invitation to play in a quality postseason tournament, period. IF GW BBall were in a better place there would have been a better invite to the NCAA or NIT Tournaments
Every player got a trip to Vegas, per diem and between an average of $3k to $3.5k in NIL money.
I am sure that they appreciated it.
And smart prospective players see this and think better about the program because of this.

i may be wrong
but i don't think that rule has been changed
there was a movement to force Hopkins to go to D3 in Lacrosse - led by some of their competitors
look for another court challenge to the NCAA on this
look at the A-10
some schools have no football programs
some are FCS
some have Club Football
and UMass leaves to go FBS
i could see a scenario where schools try to hold one sport at D1 and move the rest of the athletic program to D2 or D3

As it is designed to. Much with football being made in to a 40-team, two league competition, the same consolidation is going to happen in college hoops. Operating costs are much lower for basketball, which is one of its charms with the public at-large, so the cull will not be as severe. But the TV and gambling powers want concentration of attention, and 300+ DI schools including a bunch of schools so obscure that even a dedicated fan has to look up their nicknames and hometowns does not concentrate eyeballs/wagering action.
Can GW stay in it? Well, if the finances are good then "yes". When/if it gets to the question of does an academic-focused University want to fund a money-losing pro team that generates little interest, then the answer might be different.
or you follow the Johns Hopkins model. Division I in Men & Women's BBall. Div II or III in everything else.

i doubt if UMD and Georgetown want him or can/will offer a better NIL package

unsure of the NIL status at American - but they are dancing this season
GMU will rebuild via the Transfer Portal after their season ends

I was in Baltimore today to watch the CIAA Finals
CIAA is one of the two Division 2 conferences for HBCUs
Bowie State is a member of the North Division
It is the oldest of the HBCU Conferences as almost all HBCUs were a member until 1970.
That is when Howard and others chose to upgrade their programs/facilities and join D-1.
I sat beside Isiah Armwood, Sr. - Zeke's dad, as he is good friends with one of my good friends.
Junior is now playing basketball in Portugal

Is the talent pool in DC high school women's bball considered as good as the men's HS talent pool?
If so, that should be a factor in the search.

I don't know the exact answer to your question but a look at the transfer portal shows that the top 150 players get scholarship offers - either up or down in terms of quality of competition. Maybe more important is the number of players who enter the portal and don't get picked up by any other program.
