GW Men's Hoops » 25-26 Schedule » 5/29/2025 12:00 pm |
I'll take a stab at it: Tennessee, who has Mannassas native and #4 national recruit Nate Ament coming in as a freshman recruit. Maybe a game at Capital One Arena against the Vols?
GW Men's Hoops » Talk to me about Rasheed Hazzard » 5/27/2025 1:52 pm |
I was watching the Gilbert Arenas/Javaris Crittenton documentary last night and noticed a framed GW jersey in the background of the interview with Rasheed Hazzard (who's had various coaching stops and I guess was friends with Crittenton). I looked him up and saw that he played at GW from 1994-98, although he only averaged about 5 minutes per game across four years.
I'm wondering if anyone has any insight into him as a player at GW or his coaching career, which seems to have included stops at high school, college, NBA, G League, the Japanese third division, and South Africa. That is quite the variety.
I know he was only a role player at best but does anyone remember him? Also if you've watched the documentary let me know what you think. I'm sure most of you remember the incident itself so I'm wondering how you thought the documentary represented what happened. Seems to me that the incident got blown out of proportion and Crittenton unfairly suffered the consequences of something Arenas was also responsible for (not that it excuses his actions that landed him in prison)

Members of the staff aren't allowed to talk about recruits who haven't been signed yet so we've deleted the episode and will repost in a few weeks once they are all signed

Two super exciting pickups! Love that they can both shoot. I think Caputo and staff have put together quite a nice roster. They've clearly leaned into experienced guys who've shown they can produce at lower levels. The depth is the best it's been in my few years of following GW basketball (which I recognize is a rather low bar) and I think could allow us to compete for a double bye.
As silly as I found the extra year of eligibility for JUCO players ruling at the time, I am happy to see we're taking advantage of it with Dinkins and Marshall.
We'll be recording an episode of GW Basketball Insiders tomorrow morning with Matt Colpoys talking about the offseason. Let us know if you have any questions for him or things we should discuss
GW Men's Hoops » Good News Ahead! » 4/18/2025 3:19 pm |
Glad to get a commitment after a few swings and misses earlier this week. Seems like he will be a serviceable backup for Castro. Still plenty of scholarships remaining for more additions. I know Rising mentioned another frontcourt player and a combo guard. Do we think we need a wing? It seems like we were close on Kam Craft and have shown interest in some other guys that are similar
GW Women's Hoops » Transfer Portal » 4/18/2025 3:14 pm |
Both seem like good moves. I especially like adding Nya Morris, who was one of the best scorers in D2 last year. According to this tweet ( from her a few days ago, she also had "strong interest" from UNLV, UCF, Robert Morris, Rutgers, and Northwestern. )
Jaeda Wilson is left handed and was signed with Marquette before flipping to Georgetown. 4.1 points per game, 44.4% from two, 23.6% from three (but 86.4% from the free throw line) in 17.3 minutes per game. Can't remember the last time there was a left handed player on the women's team (although I'm likely missing an obvious one)
Recruits » Transfer: Tre Dinkins, Guard, 2020 - Transferring from Duquesne » 4/16/2025 5:00 pm |
We interviewed Tre on GW Basketball Insiders and he had some interesting things to say. Talked about why he chose GW and some of his background at previous stops. Notably he said he had interest from Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech, USC, UCF, and Michigan State and chose GW instead.

GW Men's Hoops » Michael Lipitz a candidate for the Maryland AD opening » 4/15/2025 10:03 pm |
According to Pete Thamel on Twitter, Maryland is actually starting the search this week and no candidates have been reached out to or even identified. Why it's taken this long to begin a process that should have began a month ago or what they have been doing for the last few weeks is beyond me but indicates a hire isn't imminent
GW Men's Hoops » Michael Lipitz a candidate for the Maryland AD opening » 4/15/2025 3:23 pm |
According to the Baltimore Sun, Michael Lipitz is one of four candidates to be the next Maryland AD. The others are Nathan Batt (Air Force AD), J Batt (Georgia Tech AD), and Joe LaBue (former Charlotte FC president).
Would be very frustrating to lose him within the first year of his tenure before he had time to really achieve anything.

Really nice pickup. Love the experience and shooting prowess he brings. Still 6 open spots! Feels like this may be the first announcement of a few over the next few days

Can't say I'm surprised by Buchanan although I'm definitely disappointed. In terms of Nessah, I'm afraid he may realize that the grass isn't always greener. He was seemingly in line for more minutes but evidently it wasn't enough. I wonder how we'll look back on this decision in a year. 5 open scholarship spots now
GW Women's Hoops » Joe McKeown to Retire After Next Season » 3/24/2025 5:28 pm |
Would love to see a GW-Northwestern game scheduled next season, ideally at the Smith Center with a ceremony to honor him

We are apparently hosting Butler for a visit at some point according to this tweet:
He's also taking visits to Oklahoma St and Butler (the latter of which would be poetic to a certain degree if he ended up there). Averaged 13.6 PPG and 4.6 RPG in 31.3 minutes per game while shooting 36.6% from three this season. Greenbelt, MD native who went to Roosevelt HS and did a post grad year at Fork Union Military Academy. Also he spent a year at State Fair Community College between his time at Fordham and Drexel.
I believe he's got one year of eligibility remaining because he was at Fordham for the 20/21 season. Does he get an extra year of eligibility with the JUCO ruling because of his time at State Fair CC?
