RevsBall 2025 schedule is out

While the basketball team is not yet making me wonder when pitchers and catchers report, I am also a 49ers fan, so...
Baseball has released its 2025 schedule. The season opens with three games Feb 14-16 in Los Angeles (well, in Irvine) against traditional national powerhouse U$C. The annual trip to UVa is early this year (Feb 19, pack your mittens) and the home opener is Feb 21 vs Holy Cross. That School Down the Street is on the schedule twice (Feb 25 at Tucker, mid-May at their clearly inferior facility). A10 play opens against Fordham at home March 14. Full schedule here:

Re: RevsBall 2025 schedule is out

Opening Day didn´t exactly go well for GW, albeit against a U$C team that has traditionally had one of the highest payrolls in baseball dating back to the early 1970´s. Still, a bit worrying when your Opening Day starter spots the other team a 10-run lead AND cannot get out of the 1st inning. Game two later today in Irvine, available on something called B1G+ (USA only).

Well, if the pitching was a worry on Opening Day, the base running on day 2 cost them a chance to beat a national powerhouse. How bad was the base running? Let´s put it this way, the kangaroo court piggy bank is now filled to the brim. A couple guys picked off, some caught stealing. And then they left the bases loaded down one in the 8th. And lose by a single run. Still, made U$C go deep in to its bullpen today, so not a bad performance.

Re: RevsBall 2025 schedule is out

GW swept (in spite of itself) by U$C. If boneheaded base running hurt in game 2, in game 3 boneheaded batting and base running killed-- particularly down two in the top of the 8th with no outs and runners on 1st and 2nd I am not at all clear why GW squared to bunt... with an 0-2 count. Yes, U$C´s closer shut things down with 5 Ks in the last two innings, but still. No shame in being swept by the Trojans, but this could just have easily been a series win. GW won´t play another team this good (except maybe for the one-off game at UVa) so lots of positives to take from the series in California.

Re: RevsBall 2025 schedule is out

Surprised that there was no mention of the Georgetown win from last week. The Revs put up SIX runs in the bottom of the eighth to take the game 8-7!

The team also swept Maine, putting up 26 runs in Game 2 and Ellis Schwartz hit a go-ahead HR in the bottom of the eighth in Game 3 (he also hit for the cycle!).

They also came from behind in the seventh inning to defeat UMBC 7-4 yesterday.

Up next is a series against Fairfield starting Friday. Looks like GW has a pretty solid squad this year.

Hopefully the Softball team can make the conference tournament this year as well. They seem to have better pitching but inconsistent hitting at times.

And an earlier series win over Holy Cross, too. They have lost two games to the weather, including the UVa trip. Hard to measure where the team is since U$C is way above the A10/mid-Atlantic pay grade but clearly Maine and Holy Cross are not. Still, winning 7 of the last 8 is a great way to go in to the final series ahead of conference play.

Re: RevsBall 2025 schedule is out

Tough couple weeks for RevsBall, as they were swept by Fairfield, blown out by Towson, and lost two of three at home to Fordham (given it's Fordham, I'm going to assume that's a bad result). They did win mid-week games against UMES and Mount St. Mary's.

As for softball, pitching continues to be solid but the offense has been really anemic at times. They swept St. Bonaventure convincingly last week, but the Bonnies are effectively a free space in the sport. This year's Ivy transfers have mostly been disappointing. Maybe landing some down transfers from the P6 ranks can help boost the offense (although I'm not sure if that's as commonplace in softball as it is in basketball). If it weren't for Ashley Corpuz, this team would be bad.

Re: RevsBall 2025 schedule is out

A couple series wins against URI and Mason for RevsBall (as well as a mid-week win against VMI). Most games in comeback fashion! Now 5-4 in conference play. This team certainly has a flair for the dramatic. Ty Acker had a walk-off homer in the first game of the GMU series. A rematch against the Mount is scheduled for tomorrow followed by a weekend series against VCU. The Rams are surprisingly struggling to start A10 play, just 2-7 so far.

The Softball team had a comeback of their own yesterday to sweep Dayton behind really strong pitching from Cece Smith and Anna Reed in the series. Two home runs for Ashley Corpuz, who continues to have a fantastic season. Not sure how much NIL budget is left for sports outside of basketball, but I'd definitely try to make an attempt to keep her next year if possible. Now 8-1 and in first place in conference, although there's still questions with this team regarding situational hitting with runners in scoring position. Up next is a doubleheader against Mason on Wednesday followed by a weekend series against SLU.

Re: RevsBall 2025 schedule is out

GW Softball has some potential. Consider that up until the second Dayton Game, Copuz was just 2-18 in A10 play, but the Revs managed to go 6-1. Heffley (batting .422) and Layfield (FR batting .324) are having good, consistent seasons so far, and Todoroki (another FR, who's batting .322) has started to hit as well. Hayward (SOPH) is a fixture in CF and Gilliland (SOPH) has also started very game this year. So far, the middle of the lineup, which is packed with the Ivy transfers (Mays, Travieso, and Skotz) has not produced like upper classman on the offensive side, but Skotz and Travieso have been great in the field. GW has the luxury of having two aces (Smith and Reed) but also more pitching depth than in past years with Torreso and Green (who shut out UMES earlier this week). But as DMV alluded to, leaving runners on base has been a huge problem, and one that could come back to bite the Revs.
