Just some quick notes about Temple:
The Owls beat George Mason 94-85 in the opener for both teams. GM is projected to finish 2nd in the A10 this year. Temple is picked to finish in the upper tier (4th) of the American Athletic Conference. The Owls overcame a monster game from Zahirah Walton (31 points and 12 boards) with a balanced attack led by Tristen Taylor (19 points). Five other Owls scored in double figures, with Saniyah Craig (16/15) and Jolisa Molina (12/10) contributing double/doubles.
The Patriots threw up 81 shots, hitting on just 28 (34.8%), but their 19 offensive boards helped to net 24 second chance points. Temple was 31 of 67 from the field (46.3%) and also had success on the offensive boards (14) to help secure 19 second chance points. This was a physical game that saw 51 personal fouls committed and 44 points (25 for Temple) coming off free throws.
This will be a contest between two former GW assistant coaches who moved up to the head coaching ranks. Coach Richardson had a successful stint at Towson, before moving on to Temple.

Jonquel at the game! Can definitely see a foundation for this team. They fight and give effort for Coach G, still searching for some offense

GW was soundly beaten by a superior Temple squad 86-50.The first quarter was close, marred only by a needless foul on a 3-point shot to end the quarter. Up to that point, the Revs played outstanding half-court defense and deliberate offense. Shots didn’t fall but the defense was able to prevent easy baskets for scores. At that point, Temple was only 2-17 from the field. After that, things fell apart. The Owls increased the tempo, forcing GW into numerous turnovers and rushed shots that unleashed a slew of easy transition baskets for Temple. The Owls never looked back and, buoyed by their big lead, drained numerous open 3-pointers on their way to a big win.
GW, aside from suffering from a talent deficit, revealed several big vulnerabilities. Offensively, the Revs had trouble coping with Temple’s physicality, which forced bad passes and rushed shots. James, especially, seemed to be thrown off her game, but that's to be expected from a freshman. The transition defense was atrocious, spurred by a helter-skelter offense that left players out of position to protect against the many outlet passes that led to easy scores. The absence of Theodorsson (injury?) for almost three quarters of the game, only served to highlight the deficiencies of the front court, which will be an issue throughout the season.
On the positive side, there were moments when the offense was sparked by good individual play. Sims and Phiri in particular, were not dissuaded by the physical play. Becker played a lot of minutes. Although not polished offensively, she hustled all over the court on defense and did a good job on the boards.
A lots of things to clean up before the Howard game, but this game at least provided a laundry list of things to work on. The process continues.

Nice to see you back xAC! Hope all is well.
Temple was always going to be a tough matchup (on the road no less against a top 100 team), but despite being blown out what sticks out to me from the parts of the game I watched is that the ball movement on offense was still significantly better than anything I saw last year. The Owls were straight up taller (and more skilled) than GW, so that will be something Coach G will have to address in future years, as rebounding figures to be a challenge for this year's squad. Only Becker really seems to have true size. Hopefully the turnovers can be cleaned up a bit over the course of the year. Lewis had some nice moves early on and Phiri stood out once again. Defensively, there needs to be a bit more of a commitment to closing out along the perimeter but it's still early. As xAC mentioned, transition defense was poor. Howard should be a good test, as I think they're probably around GW's level right now.
