Re: Richmond at 8PM ET

I see Joe's Northwestern team crushed ranked Michigan. Aw, those were the days when we knew we were in the NCAA Tourney every year. All we cared about was seeding. Having a .500 team at GW is now a dream. Good job Rizzo

Women lose 54-58.  Too many TOs in OT.

Re: Richmond at 8PM ET

2-18 from 3. 8-19 FTs and only 17 turnovers. Women Lose. You can't win by throwing the ball away.

Re: Richmond at 8PM ET

Taiwo had an excellent game  19 pts and 11 rebounds.  Whitney scored 13 I believe, the rest of the team not so good.    Good defense the second half allowed GW to come back - but somebody needs to tell rizzo that you still need to score more points than the opponent to win.

Re: Richmond at 8PM ET

Four turnovers in the final 2:39. Team Logo (hey, if you are supposed to be an academic peer of GW´s, why can´t you spell "Spiders"?) went on a 6-0 run in the final 38 seconds. And GW ended the season in typical fashion, going 2-11 from 3pt range for the game.
Let´s not kid ourselves. this team got better as the season went on, played some outstanding defense and some players (Brigham being the most obvious choice) improved markedly and give hope for the future,
I´ll get a night´s rest before trying to wrap my head around the season and what needs to be done moving forward, but this is not where the program ought to be. The doubt is if it is headed back to where it belongs or not. With Zambrotta a non-factor, COVID interruptions and only two players starting all games (and only six playing in every game) it is hard to make a full evaluation in the heat of the moment.

Re: Richmond at 8PM ET

We did execute poorly in OT, but this game was decided in the second quarter that Brigham sat out due to foul trouble. We had a stretch where the offense was chaotic and Richmond jumped out to a 14 pt halftime lead. Great second half defense  (10 pts allowed!), but the price we paid at times to get stops meant that our best defensive players were on the court for a lot of minutes. And, IF we could have shot 50% from the free throw line, we would have won in regulation.

The season is finally over, and next year seems far, far away. At this point my greatest anxiety is about how we replace Whitney, especially her leadership and defense. We can be optimistic that Taiwo is starting to breakout, and that Brigham will improve (especially reducing TOs and fouls, and increasing her stamina), but will the other players step up and be consistent positive contributors going forward (I think Nikitinaite and Brown did that at the end of the season). And will we ever get back the Luma who led the team in scoring and rebounding in her freshman year? Are Gingras and Perea going to be legit A10 players? How much will the newcomers (recruits and transfers) upgrade what we already have? Anxious to find out.

And then there's the elephant in room - the Transfer Portal. Will we be getting any unpleasant news in the upcoming days/weeks?

Re: Richmond at 8PM ET

Proud of the way the team fought, and it's easy to root for he team since they try so hard on defense and I believe are top 50 nationally in scoring defense.

It feels like there are too many players on the team who don't really have a defined role. Mayowa has really come on the past few games and played really well, and obviously Ali has had a really successful freshman year. Gabby played the three point specialist role well. We lacked consistent guard play outside of Jasmine who was a great pickup last offseason. Assuming the latter two do not return next season, we have a solid frontcourt returning, but probably need to revamp at the other positions with better shooters.

Rizzotti may end up getting a pass this year because of COVID, but the team has to improve dramatically next year if she sticks around. It feels like wishful thinking to believe the team will improve offensively because this is four straight seasons with the team averaging under 60 ppg.
