Southern Indiana looks a lot like Bradley, but this game is in Evansville, where USI is 12-3 for the season. The Screaming Eagles are led by Ali Saunders, who like Nelson of Bradley, averages 18 ppg and has connected on 40% of almost 200 attempts from beyond the arc; and is coming off a 30-point performance in her last game. Also in that game, the Gannon sisters, Chloe (6’2”) and Channah (6’4”), combined for 33 points to provide a strong inside game.
GW must dictate the pace of the game. On the defensive side, the Revs must make USI work for their shots, while being mindful of the Gannons inside the paint. They must limit the Eagles’ post players without fouling and hold Saunders to an average performance. On the offensive side, they must minimize costly turnovers and make a higher percentage of their shots. The overall shot selection has been good in the past few outings, but good shots by Reynolds and Lewis have not fallen enough, and wild attempts on several fast breaks have stymied potential rallies. Once again, Sims overall play will be critical to GW's success. In addition to Theodorsson, Phiri also sat on the sidelines not in uniform, so the availability of the bench players will be a factor. That said, Wilson and Dulin have continued to be positives coming off the bench. With a solid performance, the Revs may be able to extend their season to yet another game.
To the victor, a game against the winner of the Florida Gulf Coast and A10 rival Chicago Loyola contest would follow.

Damn, I almost lost the game for us. I am a fucking jinx, but we're up 8 with 20 sec to go and I figure we can't lose. Soon we're up 2 with 4 sec to go. I can't watch - but I think we pulled it out winning either 61-58 or 60-58. Saw two scores. Could be we lost this game - I'm that bad a jinx, I could lose it just watching the replay. However if we won, congrats team - two wins on the opponents floor which would even our record. at 17 - 17. I like this coach and this team's grit. Wish the men had some grit. Out-scored USI by 10 points in the 4th quarter! another comeback win. Soory xAC I don't mean to steal your thunder or your review. Thanks again xAC for all your hard work!

Only one team seems to handle adversity and mount a comeback when things get tough. WBB may not have the offensive talent this year, but they will never stop fighting. Happy that the team gets a rematch against Loyola Chicago with how the last meeting ended.

GW rallies past Southern Indiana, holds on to win 61-58 to advance in the WNIT.
GW was out of sync to start, and fell behind early due to some sloppy offense and missed open shots. The defense once again them bailed them out, as USI failed to take advantage and could only take a 16-10 lead into the 2nd quarter. Things did not improve greatly in the 2nd period, as the Screaming Eagles went out to a double digit lead, but the Revs retained their composure to cut the lead to 27-21 going into the halftime break. Reynolds, who led GW with 8 points, had little help with the scoring. Meanwhile, USI spread their points among 3 players netting 6 points or better led by Kylee Dennis’ 8 points. The 2nd half started out with an early GW rally, followed by Eagles run that gave them a small cushion. Despite Reynolds hot quarter, USI was able to win the 3rd quarter 20-19, and take a 7 point cushion into the final period. In the 4th quarter, Reynolds stayed hot, while getting scoring support from Lewis and Sims. The defense locked down the opposition, holding them to 11 points in the quarter, and then held on in the final seconds to secure the win. Reynolds finished 26 points on 6-9 shooting (6-8 from beyond the arc), while Lewis posted an 11/10 double-double. Sims, who hit some clutch free throws in the 2nd half, also finished with 11 points. For the Screaming Eagles, Loden finished with 13 points and Saunders added 12 points.
This was another gutsy victory for the Revs, sparked by an exceptional defense. With Theodorsson still out, bench play has suffered, especially on the offensive side, and tonight the subs could only muster 4 points. USI’s bench had 18 points. Loving and Gonzales gave some effective minutes, especially on defense, when the Gannon sisters’ were causing havoc on then inside. Going forward, the bench will be a concern, but after getting past the 1st two rounds, everything else seems like a bonus. Slowly but surely, the team is learning how to play in tight situations, and kudos to Coach G, who has done a fantastic job coaching from the sidelines. On to the Sweet Sixteen.
As DMV alluded to, the next foe is Loyola Chicago, who the Revs will host at the Smith Center, on Friday (March 27) at 6 PM (ET). I’m sure this is a rematch the team is looking forward to.
