Evan Miya has him ranked as a 4 star transfer (number 219 overall), his rankings are very analytics based

Could see Jun doing a Bamisile, going up to the Power 5 and depending on his situation/performance, moving back and becoming a top A10 level guy

This is a year-to-year deal now. I feel nothing when these kids leave for two reasons. First, because they are doing what is in their best interests so I am doing what is in mine - not caring. Second, because I know coming in almost all of them are possible one year rentals, I don't get invested as much in the individual  personalities. Gone are the days when a kid was here for three or four years and you really got to know them and felt they represented GW and would become GW alumni. It feels like rotisserie baseball where you can retain 5 players each year.

I don't love how crazy the portal has gotten, but I also can't blame these guys for pursuing a paycheck or a situation that fits their best interests.  Compared to virtually any other profession, the lifespan of a basketball career is incredibly short and you can't fault someone for wanting to capitalize on substantial money that could benefit their life.

Losing top guys isn't fun and makes the offseason seem that much more scary (especially when you're at a level like the A10 and your top guys are ripe for poaching), but we'll be ok if we win the transfer battle (talent going in is better than the talent going out; obviously there's more to it than that but just putting it simply).

Trilly Donovan posted that he is likely going to be in the portal (he's not always right but that means there's some intel around this)

Making more than the minimum NBA salary. At what point does the NBA start treating college ball a threat to the G League?

G League Ignite shut down after this year actually

Not the best game but we survived and a wins a win.  Have absolutely no idea what's going to happen with conference play this year; we've got a nice record coming in and there's talent here but there's also been so many close calls against teams who we are a lot better then.

Just happy these "GW beats ...." title threads haven't jinxed us yet.

Somewhere between a really bad and really unlucky start.

We have a lot of PT available for bigs but Iona's roster got completely gutted after Pitino left (last time I saw think only one guy was left)

Campbell transfer Jesus Carraleo will make his decision today. He will decide between:
George Washington
Missouri
Vanderbilt
Old Dominion
Clemson

He averaged 10.6 ppg and 5.2 rpg.

Looks like a deceptively good athlete with a nice looking stroke (92% FT according to MaxPreps is great and indicates very strong shooting touch).  Princeton's really seemed to recruit well over the past few years; a lot of their guys are significantly more athletic than what people think of for Ivy ball (underrated league at the top).  Interested to see what he contributes this year, as he understandably might need a year to ramp up after his health concerns, but is definitely a good pickup.

Wondering if Miami will try to lean towards a big money hire with all the money surrounding the program at the moment, and that could push them away from a less flashy candidate like CC (just based on name recognition, not coaching acumen).

I'm guessing it's going to take a while for the dust to clear, as players in the portal are trying to figure out where their best situation is.  A few of the bigger fish (who we don't realistically have a shot at) need to commit first and then we'll probably start seeing more action on our end.  Going forward, it's going to look pretty scary for most teams right after the season.

This site does a transfer ranking and assigns stars based on projected BPR (Bayesian Performance Rating) for 2024; thought it was pretty interesting to look at the numbers (have to pay to go past the top 20 though).

Some interesting ones:
9. JNJ (4 Star Transfer)
11. Noah Fernandes (4 Star)
25. Myles Stute (3 Star)

Think it might slightly overrate players from lower conferences, but still interesting to look at.

Jamison had a pretty rough year at Minnesota this year, metrics were down across the board compared to the year before.  Might've been tougher for him to get spacing due to the lack of talent surrounding him.  Think he'll definitely be a hot commodity in the transfer market though; he's a target on defense but teams always want that kind of scoring/shooting punch and he's proved he can score at the Big 10 level.

It seems as if one of the toughest things to do at an A10 level is build depth, and it's one of the biggest differentiators between this conference and the Power conferences.  ML utilized large recruiting classes in order to lure high-caliber recruits who were sought after (Patricio & Larsen didn't have 4/5 stars but got a lot of impressive offers towards the end).  It's tough to convince a strong mid-major recruit to come to GW when playing time isn't available, and ML initially struggled with finding quality bench guys in "gap years".  Over time, however, he started finding under the radar guys such as Jordan Roland who would've definitely contributed at a high-level.

That type of roster build might be slightly less feasible now considering how many transfers there are in NCAAB, but the transfer market was already a big part of ML's strategy as well.

ML did a very good job identifying talent, and no coach bats 1.000 with their recruiting.  If GW turns it around, 99.999% chance it won't be because a coach brought in 4 and 5 star recruits.

I'm not surprised that GW reached out to Becker; he's a great coach that would be on or near the top of a lot of school's wishlists.

I was willing to be patient with JC, but this is turning into an absolute train wreck.  It's one thing to lose a lot of games but see signs of promise; the way the team is playing is absolutely terrible.  What makes it worse is the fact that there is actual talent on this roster (at least more so than some other GW squads in the 21st century), so it makes watching the games even more brutal.  I've seen bad GW teams before, but I've never felt like turning the game off like this before.   I can't tell if it's more due to poor coaching or poor roster construction (probably a bit of both).

A season like this has a very good chance of killing recruiting momentum and JC's plan.  Recruits/transfers don't mind if a team is losing games, but they won't come to GW if they sense that the program's a disaster.  JC is a charismatic guy and a good recruiter who was able to sell some high-major players on a future plan, but a season like this basically acts as proof that his regime will be a bust.  This class was supposed to be a building block for future success, but that clearly hasn't happened.  Ira Lee might've been the worst player our team could've lost to injury, but that still doesn't excuse these types of losses.  You can argue that the Covid pauses had an effect, but there are a ton of teams dealing with issues and GW had the same problems before the pause. There are a lot of teams with the same challenges as us between a bunch of new players/transfers and Covid pauses.

JC will probably get next year due to the buyout, but the team can't keep losing like this.  I'm interested to see what happens with the off-season in terms of transfers.  Obviously hoping he turns it around, but getting more pessimistic by each game I watch.

Also- if the team is playing this badly and Nixon isn't getting time, it means either he can't play for some reason or it's a reflection on his talent level and there's a solid shot he won't be wearing a GW uniform next season

I don't think that should've been a charge to be fair.  He just had a nice dish to Bamisile too.

He's definitely still a little out of control at times but Bamisile's showing the ability to occasionally make a good read/pass.  It's still a work in progress but I'm a huge fan of his athleticism/energy.
