Free tequila shots in the basement of a certain Capitol Hill Mexican restaurant was a favorite of freshman and sophomores in the late aughts.

My most frequent spots overall were 51st State and Big Hunt. Rocket bar and fados were fun when I lived near downtown. You got to mingle with the tourists. By my senior year I found myself going to the H Street corridor for a night out quite a bit.

My friends liked third edition. I hated it lol. Too many Georgetown kids.

Just merciless through the first 10 minutes. An absolutely relentless attack. So much fun to watch.

Harris is a one man trap right now.

Wanted to echo the sentiment about carrying the momentum through to a game against a bottom half A10 team. I think we'll do it. It certainly feels like we turned a corner against Dayton.

While I understand there are going to be ups and downs, and some serious growing pains in Year One,  I can't help but look at the upcoming schedule and see a not-so-crazy path to 13-5/12-6 and a top 4 finish. I'm not predicting it, but still.

Two things can be true at the same time. CC could be a good hire but GW screwed up letting JC go.

Yes.  Exactly.

I'll take this a step further and say that the two things have absolutely nothing to do with each other.

However, I can't objectively look at the last three years' schedule and results and come away with any conclusion other than GW was 100% justified in letting JC go.

It's insane to me that people have cited player retention as a reason to give JC another year. Because he was actually really bad at that when he was here.

San Diego

I've only watched a 5 minute highlight reel, but I'm not sure Seikou and Bishop would mesh as a backcourt. Not a lot of complimentary skill sets between the two from what I could tell.

Just for fun:
1) GW Nelsons - George’s prized steed he supposedly road into battle on occasion.
2) GW Rebels - Just so our student section could be the Rebel Alliance.
3) GW Splinters - For George’s wooden teeth (urban legend by the way, they were actually made up of a number of things not including wood).
4) GW RIverhorses- Still hippos but classier?
5) GW Baldwins, Todds, Washingtons, Powells, or Warrens - Throw in a non alumni like GW Andreses for good measure.

I actually really really like River Horses. And I really dislike hippo. The Ponies of the Potomac

I think in the context of GW revolutionaries is a fine name. Keeping the mascot as George sets the tone for the revolutionary war revolutionaries. Now if the mascot was the crazy face paint and bull horns guy who stormed the capital, then revolutionaries might be a problematic name

So I actually agree with your statement. But replace "Revolutionaries" with "Colonials" in the first sentence of your post. I would agree with that statement too.

If we apply the same framework in analyzing Colonials (i.e., including definitions that clearly don't apply to GW) there's just no way that Revolutionaries gets us to a different result.

If we're getting rid of Colonials because it's too similar to Colonizers there's just no way it's gonna be the Revolutionaries.

Using the above interpretation skills, Revolutionaries could mean the Bolsheviks, the Taiping Rebellion,  the Confederacy,  or even the January 6th folks. There's a "revolutionary" out there to piss off every student and alum.

Thanks for posting this, GWAA.

I like referring to us, officially, as The Buff and Blue, but stylized as the Buffs for the team nickname.

The fight song already calls us the Buff and the Blue, a Buffalo mascot works, and Buffalo (Bison) we’re prevalent all throughout our country during that era.

I agree and posted the same on the other thread. I'll add that other schools (Stanford, Syracuse) have made the change to a color without much fanfare.  The biggest reason I like it is that Buff(s) would be unique without obviously trying to be unique.

I wouldn't add a new mascot though. Just keep everything the same. Howard had the bison covered for DC.

A great victory for everyone who was insulted to the very fiber of their being by "Colonials".

Let's take the Stanford/Dartmouth/ Syracuse route and go with a color.

I vote Buff or Buffs because it is unique. And you don't have to change anything.

My two favorite teams are GW and Drake. Drake hired Darian DeVries in 2019 and he's now 3rd in all time wins at Drake. An absolute homerun hire that has changed everything for the program.

I bring this up because he was at Creighton as an assistant for TWENTY years under both Altman and McDermott. I was really excited when I first heard about Caputo because of the obvious similarities. I think its very obvious that Caputo, like Darian, has been waiting for the perfect opportunity to take the next step in his career. He has been waiting for the right school where he can win a place that he loves. And, if the rumors are true, that school happens to be GW.

Now this of course does not address whether or not he'll be successful. But, I think back to when I fell in love with GW at first sight. The tour guide was discussing admissions and said, “GW wants students that want GW.” To me that meant GW wants students that understand why GW is different (and better) than any other school. I think that premise should be the starting block with any hire. Caputo appears to check my first box.

The offense stinks of five guys reluctant to pass the ball out of fear of never getting it back.  Unwatchable.

JNJ, Bishop, Battle, Jack, Paar

I had the same thought process. My one quibble with Rothstein's prediction was that Paar was not included in the starting lineup. I think he'll start over Moyer. I know he's a grad transfer from the SEC, but he wasn't a starter there and really didn't get a lot of minutes. That being said, I bet Moyer will average over 20 minutes a game. I also agree Sloan will get a ton of minutes off the bench.

Awesome news! I just happened to be watching this video earlier this week. Excited to see Bishop and Paar playing together again! (Hopefully this year).

One minor quibble, SLU is a private university with a little over half the undergraduate enrollment of GWU. I think we should consider them a comp.

I think any team name that is similar to Colonials (Generals, Revolutionaries, Colonels, etc.) fails for two reasons. First, it's going to feel like a knock-off version of Colonials. Second, you're just going to run into the same issues that you ran into with the Colonials, someone is going to find a reason why the name is offensive. (Also, Generals makes me think of that cheesy car insurance commercial).

My vote is to keep the Colonials. But, I totally agree with BGF's point that we are "Gee-dub" before we are the "Colonials". The idea I posted earlier for the Buffs was more just thinking out loud but its grown on me. Would add some punch to the first line of the fight song too.
