Kind of a broken record when it comes to replacing ACs, but it would be good to get an AC with DMV ties again.

Also, Mike Hall just finished up another year as an AC in the G League and still lives in the area (just sayin'!)

Yes! A million times over. Get Mike in for an interview. He's got the experience now.

So has GW ever been first in any category on KenPom's site? Because after today's win, we are current No. 1 according to KenPom in Adjusted Tempo. Go the site, toggle to sort by AdjT and enjoy seeing GW at the top of the list of all Division 1 men's basketball programs!

Things are already topsy turvey. Just yesterday Davidson over Maryland 64-61 and UT Chattanooga over Louisville 81-71. We, obviously, cannot overlook W&M today. Also not a single word yet n the Post sports section about GW since the season began. It's as if the entire University and its basketball teams just disappeared!

Perhaps there isn't much for them to destroy in the athletic department anymore? They've done enough over the past 20 years that they probably think their work is finally complete.

Anyone notice it was a nickname and no longer a moniker in the announcement video?

A Big 12 small forward? From Oklahoma maybe? Nah, he's a guard isn't he?

We need a new assistant coach? Would someone please just call Mike Hall and get him on staff? I guarantee he'll be a great recruiter and develop into a solid coach.

If we're going for historical and GW-connected references:
Revolutionaries
Continentals
Blue Jackets (in honor of the most standard uniform but probably won't work with NHL team already using the name)
Generals

If we are going for a geographic or location-inspired name:
Fog (it might need to be explained at times, but it's unique and could give rise to a branded-style of defense for the basketball teams)
Monuments
Presidents
Potomacs

If we are trying to appease 18-22 year olds who are offended by anything and everything (I do believe there was an episode of the show Community that made fun of this whole concept and sadly they might as well shoot an updated version at GW right now):
Student Athletes
Students
Humans
Carbon-Based Life Form

I hate Hippos or anything related to it as a name, but it would pretty well encapsulate stereotypical GW students. I mean, a rich guy went into an antique shop in New England while drunk and bought something. His wife didn't like it or want him to keep it. So he found a way to turn it into a tax write-off by donating it to the school. Then an elaborate story was created to pretend he wasn't just some rich, white drunk guy buying shit he didn't need. Rich people? Check! Tax loopholes? Check! People in New England? Check! Yep, that tracks.

Let's just call ourselves the George Washington University Students. No current student who doesn't understand the difference between a Colonial and colonist can't possibly be offended by calling the teams the Students, right? Or maybe we call them the Student Athletes? We were already way ahead of our time by not referring to women's teams by inserting the word "Lady" into nicknames (which for the record I really liked that we didn't do that), so let's be ahead of our time by showing our inclusivity and just be the GWU Students!

Or maybe Collegiates?

From 10:47 to 10:48 the three posts by GWMayhem, GWRising and Free Quebec summed everything up perfectly. Did y'all plan to post within two minutes of each other and cover all the bases of why this is just so damn stupid?

My reasoning for 13 and 10 are (a) someone has to score points aside from Bishop and for me Lindo should get plenty of those chances, barring a major transfer coming in, and (b) he can rebound as well as anyone / better than anyone currently on the roster. The 10 rebounds per game is probably wishful thinking, so maybe 12 & 8 is more realistic, but I can absolutely see him going 13 & 10 consistently.

When I saw the title of this thread, I assumed the opinion piece would be about the nickname. This is about the name of the university itself. That's crazy. I'm not terribly old but with this issue I feel like I'm screaming "get off my lawn!"

See what once again is happening is people forget we can honor the positive in history and learn about it alongside the bad parts. We can simultaneously hold respect for the work George Washington did leading this country to become a country and still talk about how he owned slaves and, like so many in his day, was a racist, white, wealthy land-owner.

You can argue a black university president would be great and I'd agree. That could be great for the university. And I'm sure there are many candidates who would be great and I hope they get a fair chance at the position. I'd, honestly, prefer we move away from the old white, long-entrenched in academia presidents. They don't seem to be working for us recently.

But to talk about the importance of lifting up underrepresented groups at the school by trashing the name on the university strikes me as wrong. If the opinion piece was simply, it's time for better representation at GW and they can show this by hiring a minority president, that could be a great opinion piece. But to wrap it in, the university needs to re-brand itself just takes away from the main argument and weakens it significantly.

This is a great idea. I don’t see any downside for the A10 to jump in and do something like this. And as a GW fan, it would be great to get some new non-conference opponents that are of similar talent level. Less complaining about the OOC in November-December as well!

I was totally fine with the change and think it was the right move. Around the mid-point of conference play, I thought I was seeing signs of better execution from the players and I was hopeful that would continue to the end of the season. I think the final two weeks with some very ugly losses (and quite frankly ugly wins) were what made me think a coaching change was inevitable this year or next. On the whole, I didn't see enough consistency or growth over the season. And then looking back after the season was over it was pretty clear this was not a good GW team despite where we finished in the A10 in the regular season (which at best you could call mediocre). Whether Caputo is the right guy obviously remains to be seen. I'll echo what LSF said in opening the thread - I didn't see a good in-game strategy at all. So unless guys were hitting all their shots, we had no chance. I'm excited to see the game plan Caputo tries to implement. And excited to hopefully hear news soon about some new players!

I’m all for allowing waivers for players not to have to sit a year to transfer after a coach leaves. But I’m not in favor of it within the conference. I hope Brayon does well except against GW. And he should have to redshirt a year. I know those aren’t the rules anymore, but that’s lousy all around.

GWRising - so these barriers to succeed (which many of have talked about for years here) have been in place for a long time. I have a few legitimate questions because I want to understand what is going on:
(1) Were these barriers increased while JC was the head coach?
(2) When JC was hired, were the barriers not increased but also promised to be reduced? If if they weren't reduced, who made the promise to JC they would be reduced?
I was ambivalent about whether JC deserved another year based on what I've seen on the court and in the recruiting world. Now if he was operating under even more restrictions then were put in place when KH was here and have since been implemented, I'd like to know. If further barriers were created in the past three years, I'd like to know who at the school is creating the barriers. But if he was promised a reduction in barriers that have been around since KH's time, but weren't removed - that's still frustrating as hell, but would be useful context. I think the few fans around here can agree the school puts our team at a disadvantage compared with the teams in our conference we aspire to compete against annually. We all want that to change. Is what happened to JC above and beyond how the deck was stacked against say continued success for KH? Or was it stacked further post-ML (Which we all know had a separate set of disaster around it)?

Anyone else feel like all the progress we thought we made during the middle to later portion of A-10 regular season play disappeared in the past 10 days with the games against Mason, Fordham and now this one?

NJIT already moved out of the A-Sun. They are in America East now. America East is interesting if Stony Brook leaves. Thanks to Pikiell they had become one of the top teams in the conference with Vermont. Not sure who will compete with Vermont now. Also, Hartford is in that conference and already announce they are headed to D-3. Perhaps Vermont will be looking to move in the near future and becomes an A-10 possibility?

I have to admit that appeared (from my couch) to be the best coached game of the JC era. Adjustments made. The game plan worked, especially in the second half where we are so often beaten down. Kudos to the coaching staff on this. Well done. And it was awesome to see the players looking like they were playing within a system and knew their roles. It all just seemed to click today. I had asked after the VCU game if someone could point me toward any signs of progress. It's one game today, but I'm hoping today was my sign.
