GW Men's Hoops » 2021-2022 Schedule » 6/11/2021 3:26 pm

I'm not sure if this is the right thread to post this. I was searching the web today for any updates on the Kenner League and stumbled upon this story on the HoyaSaxa blog that I though some might find interesting.
40 Years Of DC's "Cold War"6/9/21 "A total of 6,800 feet separate the borders of Georgetown University and George Washington University, but it may as well be a thousand miles."

Do any of the board insiders have any info on whether the Kenner League will take place this Summer? And if so, if the GW players will be participating? I looked on the NCAA site and so far only 14 summer leagues have been certified, and Kenner isn't listed yet.

GW Men's Hoops » Yuta Update » 4/16/2021 7:51 pm

Yuta with a nice first half against Orlando tonight. He leads the raptors in scoring with 11 on 4 of 6 shooting, and also leads them and rebounding with six boards at the half. Hopefully he gets some running the second half and ends up with a double double. I imagine it would be his first in the NBA.

One interesting stat regarding Navy's record is that 4 of their wins have been against American, whose record for the season is 2-4.  Both of American's wins have been against Loyola (MD), which Navy will play twice to close out the regular season, so Navy will likely end up with a 15-2 regular season record.

GW Men's Hoops » Yuta Update » 2/05/2021 8:35 pm

Just turned on the game and thought it was pretty cool to see Yuta on offense being covered by Kevin Durant.  That's got to be a pretty surreal feeling for him.

GW Men's Hoops » GW vs Duquesne Game Thread » 1/02/2021 4:22 pm

The free throw shooting was obviously terrible, but my biggest takeaway was that our three-point shooting isn't going to get significantly better until we have more movement on offense. It didn't appear that we missed too many open looks from deep, and most of our three-point shots were contested well.  It's easier to clog driving lanes to the basket and close out on shooters when they're not moving from the spots where they initially set up on offense. With very little cutting to the basket, no baseline screens, etc we're making it too easy to defend us.

GW Men's Hoops » GW vs Duquesne Game Thread » 1/02/2021 1:29 pm

Some bright spots are that we out rebounded them and only ended up with five first half turnovers after several early on. Hopefully the 11% three-point shooting and 33% free-throw shooting improves for the second half.

With 4 team fouls in the first half, how do you not foul with under 10 seconds to make Duquesne reset their offense?

VCU had paused it's basketball season due to Covid.

I'm not sure if this will affect our game on the 13th.

I tend to agree with Barry that we're probably better than our record.  There was plenty of inconsistent play, poor defense, and unforced turnovers, etc throughout the first seven games, of which 4 of the losses were by a total of 9 points. We also held leads in those 4 losses (Hampton-7, Delaware-7, W&M-19, Charlotte-11), so had we played even a little better for a short stretch in all of those games we could have won two or three of them.  If we can do the things that brought us success in the Fordham game: maintaining deffensive effort for a full 40 minutes, being quick to trap and double team bigs in the low block, team rebounding (7 players had 4 rebounds or more), and share the ball (18 assists vs Fordham), etc. and also continue to improve our turnovers, we should be able to stay competitive in most conferenece games and win those when our threes are falling.  Even in the losses there have been bright spots that give me some optimism: Battle's offensive game looks much improved over last year, Bishop's offensive game has been stellar, we have three bigs that can all contribute and protect the rim, Moyer has the physical tools to be a tremedous defensive player and rebounder.  Here's hoping 2021 brings continued improvement and some wins. Happy New Year!

I checked the flohoops app on the off chance that the stream was available and was pleasantly surprised that the video was available. Unfortunately the feed stops after a few minutes, but you can click on the game again and keep watching.

Also the UD site has a link to the live audio feed through iheartradio

Navy now up 10 with less than 2 minutes left playing at McDonough. Feeling a little better about the loss right now

GW Men's Hoops » Basketball player missing from GW Hall of Fame » 4/06/2020 10:42 pm

During Danilo's time as a Colonial he was always one of the most exciting players to watch, with his elite athleticism. I remember during his very first game as a freshman at the Smith Center my wife turning to me and saying "he's going to be a star". He was her favorite player on that team, so much so that even years later while teaching our toddler how to shoot freethrows she'd tell him to make sure to focus on the rim, take a deep breath and blow out your cheeks... just like Danilo 😂

GW Men's Hoops » 2016 GW NIT on ESPNU » 3/16/2020 1:42 pm

I still have the NIT games on my DVR. Hopefully I'll need to delete these over the next couple of years to make room for some just as memorable future GW victories.

GW Men's Hoops » Kevin Marfo » 2/29/2020 5:51 pm

1 amazing stat with Marfo's season is that he's had double- digit rebounds in 27 of 28 games. He's had some very good plays on both ends the last few games to help Quinipiac win.

Does anyone know if the GW-VCU game is available anywhere besides cbssn?

GW Men's Hoops » GW vs Mason Game Thread » 2/15/2020 10:38 pm

Nice road win for GW and great to see Armel back on the court looking completely healthy. Solid performances from Jamison, Jameer and Maceo. Nice to see him go 4 of 6 from three-point range after going 3 for 21 over the previous three games.  One interesting item from the boxscore is that there were only 7 bench points combined (GW-3/GMU-4).
