Transfer Portal

Sara Lewis has entered the portal, citing "coaching change".
I would have thought players would wait to see who the successor is, but apparently not.

Bummer. As I said to friends yesterday at the game as the second half descended into acceptance, “Can’t even know how to look forward to next year. No idea who will be back.” Already started on the women’s side. Wonder if they’ll still be called the Revolutionaries with all the changes coming with a new coach. Well, maybe that aspect wouldn’t be so bad.

@EJayArrow

NEWS: Sources tell me Morgan Matthews is set to enter the transfer portal out of George Washington.

The 6’0” freshman guard averaged 3.3 PPG & 2.0 RPG in 17 games played this season (15.6 MPG).

She amassed 1,602 points at Pennington HS (NJ).

Re: Transfer Portal

Miriam Diala has joined Lewis and Matthews in the portal.

Too bad - she looked like she had a decent up side.

Re: Transfer Portal

Kyraha Parnell is headed to Furman. Also looked like a player with some size, athleticism, and upside potential.

Re: Transfer Portal

Anyone else concerned at how slow things have been moving?  We sure could use some players...

Re: Transfer Portal

For sure. I don't remember seeing any announcements about even the full coaching staff yet which is very surprising. Thought that would be finalized by now.

Also I just saw that Nya Robertson is heading to Tennessee. Good that she's leaving SMU because that new coach they hired is awful. The way Barnes put down all mid-major coaches was inappropriate and wrong.

Great news! Had a hint earlier when the team posted pictures advertising to come see next year’s action and one of the pictures was Sara. Congrats to Sara and Coach G.

The coaching staff part seems completed.... now if we can only get some talented front court transfers...

Re: Transfer Portal

Nya Morris commits to George Washington per her Instagram. The 5’9 guard is transferring from Claflin (DII) where she was named CIAA POY, CIAA All-Backcourt and made the D2CCA All-American Team. She averaged 20.2 ppg, 4.5 rebs, and scored 525 points this season.

Thanks for the news FC. Got us a Nya back.

Transfer from Georgetown

Re: Transfer Portal

Both seem like good moves. I especially like adding Nya Morris, who was one of the best scorers in D2 last year. According to this tweet (https://x.com/morris_nya/status/1907547352639971815) from her a few days ago, she also had "strong interest" from UNLV, UCF, Robert Morris, Rutgers, and Northwestern.

Jaeda Wilson is left handed and was signed with Marquette before flipping to Georgetown. 4.1 points per game, 44.4% from two, 23.6% from three (but 86.4% from the free throw line) in 17.3 minutes per game. Can't remember the last time there was a left handed player on the women's team (although I'm likely missing an obvious one)

Re: Transfer Portal

Maeva Fotsa, who didn't suit up this year for GW is in the portal. The JUCO transfer, listed as a center at 6'3", leaves Loving as the only true post player on the roster for now. Hopefully, the new coaching staff is bringing in some talented length and physicality through the portal. We'll definitely need it.

Re: Transfer Portal

Silvia Gonzalez is transferring in from Bryant. She averaged 3.6 ppg and 2 rpg in a reserve role. Unlike the Morris (who fits a need in terms of go-to scorer/shooter) and Wilson transfers (showed promise/upside as a freshman at Georgetown and was a four star recruit out of HS) I don't really get this one.

Gonzalez regressed from year 1 to year 2, and this just feels like a step down from Planes Fortuny, who is also from Spain and came in from Bryant. I guess as a stretch frontcourt player she fits what Coach G wants to do in terms of shooting, but she only made 31% of her threes last year. Given the holes in the frontcourt, I hope WBB can land at least a couple of players who had a bigger impact. McCombs was able to do so with Mott/Planes Fortuny, so it should be doable especially since it's been reported that GW is going "all in" in WBB and upping the commitment.

Good article on Coach G: https://www.thenexthoops.com/ncaaw/mid-majors/ganiyat-adeduntan-new-head-coach-george-washington-atlantic-10/

Overall, I like the philosophy/long term vision but wanted to say two things: 1) It's great that she wants to be competitive right away, but the current roster that's mostly filled with McCombs recruits likely clash with what she wants to do. Most are not good shooters and turn the ball over a lot (although some definitely have promise with better coaching). Internal development will be critical if her goal is to make sizable strides in year 1. 2) She mentions wanting to play fast, but that sounds like classic coach speak. None of her teams at Colgate even ranked top 300 in tempo.
