Any known OOC games yet? (based on previous agreements).
Wishfully hoping for a more competitive OOC schedule to better prepare us for conference play (and stop all the bid talk after we start 5-0 against D-2 and 3 teams).
I don't buy the argument that nobody will play us. We don't have the luxury of requiring a home game against P-5 teams so pack the bags and go play them on their court!
Mid-majors and low-majors will agree to a home and away series so lock it down. GW is and has been a middle of the road "mid-major" for the last decade now.
In the next couple of months we will see how the athletic dept and coaching staff approach next season in terms of scheduling philosophy.

Playing us at home does nothing for the bigger schools. We’d have to be top 30 to make it worthwhile to buy us. They’d rather pay to blow out a Q4 team at home than lose a Q2 home game to us. They get enough Q1 and Q2 games playing their conference schedule.
We did an ok job getting some neutral site games against USF and UF so I’d imagine we'll try to do more of that.

Why would GW agree to home and homes with low majors? That does nothing for *our* resume.
The best thing that could happen for GW is somehow getting the MWC/A10 challenge up and running again or starting something annually with the American.

Depends on how you define midmajor/lowmajor. I'm using the example of Army (is Patriot League low major, mid major?). Worked out for us when they came Smith C in 2024-2025 and we played there in 2025-2026.
Several non-P5 conference teams are better ranked than us in the Kenpom and NET - Big South, MAC, Ivy, MVC, MWC, Southland, CAA, etc. I guess it depends how you define those conferences, mid-major or low-major?
The point is I would rather play a Towson, American, UMBC, Vermont, Deleware than D-3 St Mary's or Bowie State to fill in our schedule.
I think you overestimate our reputation with the "bigger" schools. No teams in the last 8 years or so have been concerned about losing to us at home, regardless of whether or not we are Q2, Q3 or Q4.
I do agree with you about neutral site games/tournaments.

Again, 9 out of the other 13 A10 teams had a weaker OOC schedule than GW. The #1 team (SLU) had the 315th ranked OOC and they seemed to have no problem in conference play. The same goes for GMU and Joe's. I get the complaints about the weak schedule in previous years under CC, but not this year. Blaming the team's underperformance this season on scheduling feels lazy. This team's flaws were exposed against a ten win Delaware team and the lack of on-court chemistry + missed layups was already on display then. They didn't need to play Arizona or Michigan to reveal the issues.

GW literally played three of the five schools you mentioned last year. Not sure what the point is of being so up in arms about a single non-D1 game between exams and players going home for winter break. That's usually when their minds are somewhere else and bad losses occur. Does playing another mediocre D1 team really change the team's trajectory? Also who is jumping up and down to play Vermont? They're not regional, and have fallen off in the NIL era (242nd and 239th in the last two years). They couldn't even win the America East this season in a down year for the conference (arguably the worst the conference has been in like 25 years).

I’ve been a big critic of our scheduling, as in recent years our OOC SOS has been among the weakest in the nation. But I agree with Piranha that it was much better this year. According to KenPom, the OOC SOS was 263, about 100 better than in previous years. And considering that the A10 was better this year, and our A10 schedule was among the hardest, our overall SOS was 108.
What I have always argued for is 1 or maybe 2 games against P5 schools, as many mid-major games as we can get, and the rest games against local teams, avoiding as much as possible NET Q4 games (understanding that a few are inevitable). That’s pretty much what we had this year.

Agree with you guys. Lipitz forced the change in scheduling philosophy even though he was relatively new and I’m hoping to see even more of his influence this year.

It will not be shocking if the loss of Slim in particular leads to a softening of next year's OOC schedule. This will depend a bit on who we wind up with from the portal and subsequently, how "young" or "veteran" a team GW will be.
