GW Men's Hoops » GW's All Time Pleasant Surprise Team » 5/01/2025 9:35 am |
Not much of a stat stuffer, but I would go with Matt Hart. Dude was a key contributor on one very good team, and one team that should have been good but underachieved due to not great coaching. This guy came to us from the D3 ranks, but you wouldn't know it.
GW Men's Hoops » Bart Torvik Pre-Season Rankings » 4/28/2025 11:47 am |
We are still a long ways until the start of the season, but I wanted to pass on that Bart Torvik has released his current preseasons rankings. GW is currently coming in as the #52 team in the country. We are #37 in adjusted offensive efficiency and the #94 in adjusted defensive efficiency. This doesn't mean much this far out, but it looks like the stat nerds see good things for GW this season.

If this was all really about Anti-Semetism, then why does the demand letter to Harvard require the discontinuation of DEI programs, "Merit Based" hiring and admission reforms, and viewpoint diversity? Please let me what that has to do with Anti-Semetism. Are you saying the unqualified minorities Harvard is supposedly hiring or admitting are all anti-Semites? Or, could it be that the claims of Anti-Semetism are just the front to attack DEI policies, which the administration has done across the board.

I hate the anti-semitism present on college campuses today and how it has been prevalent in the protests on Isreal's actions in Gaza. However, if you think that the Trump administrations actions against Harvard and the other universities has anything to do with anti-semetism, I have some shares of Truth social to sell you. The discussion of anti-semetism is just a cover for the Trump administration to go after another perceived enemy (academic institutions) and trying to get them to act in a manner more consistent with their political philosophy. They don't really care about anti-semetism, otherwise they would also go after the members of the Alt-Right who also express anti-semeticism. They just know that they can inflame the passions of good people using this excuse so they can accomplish their real political goals. I'm sad to see that this tactic may actual be effective.
GW Men's Hoops » Castro Is coming back to GW!! Autry/Jones/Bevins/Johnson/Moss also » 4/02/2025 9:55 pm |
With all the talk of the starters coming back, I just wanna say how proud I am of Trey Moss for coming back. This is a guy who saw his PT fall off a cliff when we transitioned from non-Conference to A-10 player. Today, a lot of players would transfer after that type of adversity. I am so happy he has the toughness to stick around continue his basketball career at GW. I think he's got a great chance to be a contributor on what is shaping up to be a pretty good team.

When it comes to basketball, GW will never miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity.

I am going to miss Jun the person. I think he's exactly the kind of player want at GW and I wish him all the success in the world.
I am not as upset about losing Jun the player. Jun was good at doing what he does, but he never really seems to fit with what the rest of the offense was trying to do, or what it really needed from someone playing his position. It seemed the team really found success when they started to move away from him offensively and started to feature the guards and Castro. We could use more players that fit into that offensive system, while also potentially being a defensive upgrade.
The important thing here is that in today's world, Jun leaving frees up a note of NIL money (I have to assume he was the biggest earner on the team). With him gone, that money can go to keeping Castro and Jones/Autry (who were more the core of the offense), while also brining in another player who is a better fit or first more of a need (a real shooter or another big)
GW Men's Hoops » John Feinstein » 3/14/2025 8:15 am |
In a perfect world, I would love to see a John Feinstein classic, where GW, Maryland, Georgetown and American play each other in a tournament every year. Its what the BB&T classic always should have been, and would be a great way to honor him.
GW Men's Hoops » How Should We Be Greeting Max (and then Joe)? » 1/13/2025 11:03 am |
This falls into my standard to how to handle yourself at a game.
If you are a grown-up, be respectful or be silent. College kids are still kids, and booing or heckling kids as an adult is lame. Officials, however, are always fair game.
If you are in college, heckle away. They are your peers and you can have some fun with this.
GW Men's Hoops » GW Revs App Problem » 1/09/2025 1:49 pm |
I've had the same problem all season. I am usually able to get in using the Ticketmaster site. It's still a mess though.
GW Men's Hoops » GW BEATS VMI Game Thread » 11/28/2024 11:49 pm |
The thing that seems crazy to me from the write-up above is that VMI is a military school whose basketball team is comprised of ~50% foreign players. I don't know much about VMI the institution, but I wouldn't expect that.
GW Men's Hoops » 2024-25 season » 10/03/2024 9:44 am |
If Caputo hits the base case, does he keep his job? JC got fired after coming in 7th in the conference in year 3. I'm not saying that JC was the right guy here and his OOC record that season was terrible, but with a new administration here how much leash does Caputo have? Would Lipitz want to wait another year on Caputo if we finish at the bottom half of the league?
GW Men's Hoops » Conference Realignment » 9/12/2024 8:56 am |
If they finish this off by adding UNLV and Nevada, that isn't a bad little conference for football or basketball. If they could then poach Gonzaga and St. Mary's as non-football members, that could be a pretty solid Pac 10.
GW Men's Hoops » Season Tickets » 8/27/2024 10:06 am |
The Row B Seats in the endzone are the best. I had tickets in Section 219, Row B for ~12 years until the moved the band right there (without notice...something I am still annoyed about). We then moved over to Section 211 for a few years. However, the rows are a little narrow for a 2 year old who needs to move around a little. Otherwise, I'd keep our same seats. They are the best deal in town.
GW Men's Hoops » Season Tickets » 8/26/2024 1:55 pm |
Thanks for this information. I totally agree with this being the best deal in town. My issue is only I have a 2 year old who will now need his own seat, and a wife schedule to give birth in February. So, we have some cost vs. usage calculus. Though, I have had season tickets in some form for 20 years, and it would be hard to give that up.
GW Men's Hoops » Season Tickets » 8/26/2024 9:01 am |
Have the Athletic Department actually released the Season Ticket prices for the year yet? I can't find them anywhere. It seems a little ridiculous to ask people to put down a deposit when I don't know how much tickets are going to be, especially when you are in a situation like me where I plan on upgrading my tickets.
GW Men's Hoops » Smith Center Discussion + Renovations » 4/21/2024 10:57 pm |
This is just another embarrassment under the Nero/Vogel leadership of the athletic department over the past decade. I don't understand how Vogel still has a job here outside of being an alum. I can't think of one thing she has done that inspires confidence that this is the right person for the job. Outside of the Swimming program, are any of our teams successful? Have we had one PR win in the past 5 years?

Man, if Tafara goes someplace else, what would that be? 5 schools we attended or committed to? That dude got a lot of bad advice over the years.
GW Men's Hoops » Chris Caputo contract extended. » 2/07/2024 10:15 am |
I wanted to re-up this thread due to the recent losing streaks by both the men and women's teams. This isn't meant as an "I told you so", but more to gauge the temperature in the room the way the season has progressed for both teams. Are we still as convinced that these extensions were the right move, or do you think knowing what we know now that we should have taken a more conservative approach?
GW Men's Hoops » GW vs Richmond Game » 1/24/2024 8:53 pm |
They also missed a travel on the rebound on that play. Richmond pulled away from a potential jump ball and run like 4 steps before dribbling. Oh well, at least we made it a game.
